NV+ v2 Volume Size after factory reset

Hello

I have a NV+ v2 that had 4x3tb drives running in xraid2. I recently swapped out two of the 3tb drives for 4tb drives one at a time and let them sync successfully. After the second 4tb drive was added I thought the volume expansion would kick in and give me the extra 1tb space but after a few reboots it would always say volume expansion failed.

So today I did a factory reset on the unit and it is now doing its resync on disk 4 after the reset but it still says the volume is only 8326 GB. I expected it to be about 9258 GB with the 2x4tb and 2x3tb drives. Is there something that expands it after this resync? Still have about 12hours left on it.

I'm running the latest firmware 5.3.9 and the driver are all WD Reds so they are on the HCL.

Thanks
Craig.

Generally there are two phases to the creation of the array. First it is building a 4 x 3TB RAID5 layer (which results in the 8381 volume). When that is finished, there will be a reboot, and then a 2 x 1TB RAID-1 array is added to the volume, giving you the final TB.
  • Great, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. I just hope that the second array building doesn't fail like the previous expansion attempts did before the factory reset.

Just a follow up question, should I be able to access the Dashboard right now while it is doing this first array building or resync? The dashboard loads but it says the device is offline.

    Thanks
    Craig.

If it is still not available, perhaps you should contact support.
  • Well after the first resync I was able to access the dashboard (after clearing some cache settings) and it worked fine.

I had to reboot it twice before it started to run the second layer space allocation. Now it is running a resync and it is going at 1Mb/sec and it says 11 days remaining. I hope it speeds up because that is crazy slow...

Any experience with a resync taking this long? I think it is a little strange that it doesn't say volume expansion but rather just a resync. Even in RAIDar it says volume size is only 8687 GB

Thanks for your help so far.
    Craig.

The time estimates to completion are always way off (and too long).

It sounds like it is expanding ok.
