Pro 2 disappears permanently from RAIDAR after setup
Hello all!
Been banging my head against the wall on this one.
We've got a pro 2 that used to work with no issues. Used to run file shares off of it and iSCSI for the lab at times.
At any rate, it sat un-used for some time and I'm now attempting to breathe some life back into it.
The web UI was un-reachable and was unable to SSH into the NAS. I conducted a factory reset (Didn't need anything on it). The device shows up in RAIDAR after the reset and I'm able to run through setup, but afterwards it complete disappears from RAIDAR and never comes back. This has been attempted on multiple networks. I'm assuming the NAS still uses DHCP by default after the setup is run, but looking in the DHCP leases shows that it hasn't even attempted to get an IP.
If they have a static address configured after setup, i haven't been able to find it in the manuals or online.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Thank you.

- NhellieVirtuosoCan you try a direct to pc connection and see if the same thing happens?
When you lose the connection from the NAS, does your router still see it? - RXLuminaryTry to connect your Pro2 directly to your PC. Set a static IP address of 192.168.168.x to your PC then check if it will be detected by RAIDar and if its detected, check if you will be able to access its web-GUI. Note that the default IP address of your NAS is 192.168.168.168 :D
- stratman4300AspirantYup, I attempted the direct connection method just now. Just set my IP to 192.168.168.50 and attempted to ping 192.168.168.168 and had RAIDAR scan with no luck. Still not seeing the NAS. :(

Try this: Turn off your NAS then pull-out all drives and label it accordingly from which bay you have pull it out. Then, while your NAS still directly connected to the PC, check if it will be detected by RAIDar without drives inside it. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserMaybe also check the NIC activity light. A failed NIC in the NAS could explain this.

Yup! That worked! RAIDAR sees the NAS with the default IP of 192.168.168.168. :D
So what does that usually indicate then? Corrupt filesystem on one of the drives then?
Sorry if these are noobish questions. I haven't done much with ReadyNASs. I don't really know their quirks yet. :? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserUsually RAIDar will see the NAS if it has a corrupt file system.
Perhaps the disks are bad? Can you test them with vendor tools in a PC (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital) - RXLuminary@stratman4300:
Here are the links for Seagate SeaTools for Windows and WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows respectively:
http://www.seagate.com/as/en/support/do ... in-master/
http://support.wdc.com/product/download ... =612&sid=3
I suggest that you perform the Extended Test for a thorough test. :) - stratman4300AspirantThanks for the info guys.
Couple things to add. The disks are actually Hitachi, which i haven't done any digging for a tool from them yet.
The other thing I noticed when I put the disks back in is the disks will churn for a short while (about 30 seconds) then you don't hear them at all anymore. In addition at that point the activity light stays on and solid. It's really acting like it hangs during boot.
I tried the skip volume check boot option with the same results.
Does it make sense to factory default it again so it shows in RAIDAR, then through the boot menu tell it to do a disk check?
Also, thoughts on doing an erase operation on the disk through RAIDAR prior to running setup? Think it will help?
Otherwise, i'll start getting some of the disk diagnostic tools out. - RXLuminary

Its alright to use either the Seagate SeaTools or WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics to run an Extended Test to your Hitachi drives.
By the way, are the Hitachi drives within the compatibility list of drives for the Pro2? You could check it on this link: http://www.readynas.com/app/hcl_diskstratman4300 wrote: Does it make sense to factory default it again so it shows in RAIDAR, then through the boot menu tell it to do a disk check?
Just a reminder, doing a factory reset will wipe out all the data stored in your existing drives.
