Ready Nas duo v2 won't recognize external usb drives over 2
Got new ReadyNas duo v2.. wont recognize external usb drives over 2 tera on any usb port, any new beta firmware around to address this issue? kinda defeats the purpose why i bought the thing, and disappointed you guys released this new version while it is clearly still in "beta".. seriously rethinking if I will ever purchase a netgear product again.. you dont even have a real page up for this new version yet..

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSome USB drives failing to mount is a known limitation of the 5.3.1 firmware. What USB drive models have you tried?
- delweineAspiranteverything I have!! my raid 5 venus usb 3, ( which the raid 5 has to be rebuilt now, seems like netgear is using the krappy etron controller instead of nec..) rosewill usb 3 external case with hitachi 3 terra 5900 rpm drive.. 4 tera raid 0 hitachi duo... my seagate nas that is 2 years old has no issues with this... In my mind, this makes Netgear's release a beta, and as far as I am concerned, they have 2 weeks to get a fix out for this, or I am done with their products.. totally unacceptable biz policy to release a beta product,
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you tried the front USB 2 port?
RAID enclosures aren't necessarily the most likely enclosures to be compatible. There are also a variety of cases out there and NetGear can't test them all.
Also are you sure you have the Duo v2 (RND2000-200) with the new Dashboard web-interface not the earlier Duo v1 (RND2000-100) which has the older Frontview web-interface (http://www.readynas.com/simulators/frontview)?
It's not a beta product. 5.3.1 was the first production release for the v2 and was deemed suitable for release to manufacturing. Most things work fine with that release. No OS is going to be perfect. They are working on a 5.3.2 firmware release at the moment. There's no ETA on when that will be ready yet. - delweineAspirantyes tried it, same result.. i have 2 old nas boxes.. both have no issues with any of my externals.. products should work as advertised, i appreciate you trying to stick up for them, and if this was a new technology, I would be much more understanding.. But as I pointed out, all my ext boxes worth with much older nas boxes.. therefore, as someone who works in the computer field, I consider their public release of this product to be a beta.. just not acceptable to me. this kind of stuff is how companies begin to go down hill.. I am not trying to be a pompous ass my any means, but I am sick and tired of companies these days pulling this.. when they do, I take pleasure in blogging about it and costing them as much biz as they deserve to lose..

Are all your enclosures multiple disk enclosures?
Are you saying that if you use 2TB drives or less it works fine but if you use 3TB drives it doesn't?delweine wrote:

They've ported the RAIDiator OS to run on ARM hardware and given it a new redesigned web-interface. A lot of work has gone into this. I would certainly disagree with comments suggesting it's a beta product. If it was a beta lots of different things wouldn't be working and several bugs.
Now with existing USB disks there's also some issues to deal with such as:
Does it still mount when connected to another device?
What filesystem is on the disk? If the filesystem is an unusual one that's not recognised it may fail to mount. Filesystems such as NTFS, FAT32 (4GB limit per file) and EXT3 are recommended.
Have you verified the disks are in good health?
Does your USB enclosure have it's own power supply? If not, are you able to try connecting via a USB hub with its own power supply?
You could also open a tech support case (http://www.readynas.com/support). Please edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in this thread) to include your case number. Support may be able to determine from the logs what's going wrong. - delweineAspirantthanks for trying to help.. I am a computer tech, trust when I say everything is fine with my drives.. as stated before, they work fine with my older nas boxes plugged into the usb 2.0 ports.. 1 single drive, i raid 5, 5 drive, 1 4 drive raid.. all fine,, yes, 2 tera drive and below all work in all ports, I have tested a spare i have and placed it in the rosewill external usb 3 case. it wont mount any drive over 2.. i will bet you that EVERYONE with drives larger has, or will have the same issue.. it is def a beta firmware.. why? i will be this was over looked.. but let's see, if others are not having these exact issues, I am cool with Netgear.. if they are, then the product is not fit for production line..
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs the model of your NAS shown as "ReadyNAS Duo v2" in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads)? What do you see under the Info (far right) column?
3TB drives not working looks like it could be an issue with GPT support for external disks then.
What filesystem (NTFS/FAT32/EXT3 or something else) do you have on your 3TB disks? Are they formatted correctly with GPT partitioning? - delweineAspirantntfs yes, duo v2, with the 2 blue usb 3 ports on back.. GPT should not be an issue as drives already formatted with existing files on them, but because it should not be, does not mean it is not.. you are likely correct.. this is what i mean.. if every customer has this issue, it was an over sight by netgear.. seeing as my older nas have no issues with these drives, this is likely the case.. i will open a ticket and perhaps they might have a beta fw around.. I am sure tons of this issue is on the rise
appreciate the help much, thanks!! - delweineAspiranti can test a spare drive i have to verify if it mounts with GPT verses MBR.. i will report back in a few after test
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt appears there is no GPT support for external disks at this time. Will have to hear back from NetGear whether this is planned for 5.3.2. USB is an area that I would expect they would be focusing on for 5.3.2.
