ReadyNAS Duo v2 - no disks detected

Hi there
I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo (RND2000 v2) that is about 2 years old and has worked well up until now. When I turn it on, the LED lights flash 3 times quickly and then twice slowly (code for no disks detected according to previous posts on this forum).

I have tried installing a spare hard disk into slot 1 but still it isn't detected. I have tried both resets (push reset button for 5 secs and 30secs) but the LEDs continue to flash in the same way. Raidar won't detect the NAS.

I'm just wondering if you know of any other way to reset the NAS or to communicate with it to find out why it isn't booting up. Thank you.

  • Many thanks, Vandermerwe, for the very helpful post. I had thought that the Duo was a v2 based on the sticker on the underneath of the unit but it turns out it's a v1.

I've not been able to access data on the hard drives because the NAS won't boot up but presumably I could use a USB caddy for this. The drives are Seagate Barracuda 2TB so I will look on the internet for the vendor tools.

With regard to the NAS boot menu, holding the power button does not allow me to access the boot menu. Instead, the lights keep flashing (all of them 3 times quickly then the left hand '1' light flashes twice slowly). Are there any ways that I could try to investigate what is preventing it from booting?

    Any advice is welcome.

    Thanks.
  • I would certainly test all the disks including the spare.
As for your data , you may be able to read disk 1 using linux reader after attaching the disks to a PC:
    http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/.
This assumes you were using Xraid.
It is usually disk 1 that can be read, but in some cases can be disk 2.
If you can access the data back it up.

If all disks are ok then it sounds like there is a chassis fault. You say it is 2 years old, did you buy it new?
