Single blinking green light HDD light on Duo? What's wrong?

I've tried searching the forum for help but can't find what I'm looking for.... Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Readynas Duo?

I have one green flashing HDD light flashing at a constant speed. It's bay 1. I tried swapping the drives over and bay 1 light continues to flash. I've tried a new drive in bay 1 with the same outcome. I've not made any software changes.

Is the bay dead? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Well you could open up the unit and look for a build up of dust.
  • I've nothing to loose. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a go and report back.
  • Pulled it apart.... Good clean up (it was clean anyway), reassembled. Still not working

I think I'm going to have to pull the trigger on a new nas. Any suggestions?

The RN102 is Netgear's current 2-bay model. It is faster than the duo you have now, and handles bigger disks. If you were basically satisfied with the duo, it is worth a look.

The RN312 is faster still (but is more expensive than the RN102).

Both of these run OS6, which is the going-forward software platform for ReadyNAS.

Thanks Stephen. If I buy the disk free 102 or 312 can I just bung the drives from the duo straight in?

You can't migrate your data that way - the disk format is different, so the new NAS would need to wipe it.

The drives might work, but If they are not on the HCL for the new NAS, Netgear can/will deny support for disk-related problems.
  • I knew you would say that :(. Why can't life be easy!

    Thanks for your help Stephen.
