802.1Q is vlan, not link aggregation.

Re: Switch advice please
Alright just read trunk could be used for link aggregation on english version of wikipedia, french version was less complete (as often for technology).
"A trunk port can refer a port that sends and receives tagged frames on all VLANs, except the native VLAN, if one is configured. The term trunk may also be used to refer to a connection using link aggregation." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.1Q
I only used trunk port as the opposite of the access port in Cisco devices (switchport mode (access/trunk)). So to me a trunk port was something that helped in Vlan implementation with multiple switches and had nothing to do with link aggregation which is why I didn't see the link between 802.3AD and Trunking.

Re: Switch advice please
I've asked netgear
It seems that what you are referring to is Link Aggregation or LAG. I agree that the ReadyNAS Pro 6 supports LAG wherein you could combine the 2 Ethernet ports of it into one but the GS108E does not support it.

Re: Switch advice please
I've got the switch, testing now.
I can't have the setup software to run on my PC. Ok, this is OT and I have posted on netgear forum, but maybe someone here had the same experience? I can click on it, the software is running on my task manager and windows asks for firewall permissions, but nothing shows up.
Tried and tried, no luck. Adobe Air and the other little sw needed by the utility are installed.

Re: Switch advice please
I'm not sure which switch you got. But the Netgear smart switches can also be configured using http, so maybe try that. You should be able to see the switch IP address in your router.

Re: Switch advice please
Oh sorry I forgot to mention. I ended up with the GS108E which I understand can only be configured by its utility, I don't think the switch has an IP but I may be mistaken.

Re: Switch advice please
The GS108T does have an IP address, and a web admin page. Anyway, it is probably worth a look.

Re: Switch advice please
Interesting, it has an IP indeed! 🙂 But unfortunately it does not have a web interface. The "T" version does have it. I have opened a ticket with Netgear.
