Just updated my Orbi to 2.3.5.30. Seems stable so far.I see few "ads" for the Orbi app and links for app download in the web GUI.Otherwise I could not see much more new things. I'm keeping to look and will report if I find new things. The Support Download page does not yet show this SW.

Goteborg wrote:......... I've spent hundreds of hours troubleshooting on my own and at the direction of Netgear support (regular and escalated "technical" support), only to have them close my case at the end of my 90 days. And they never resolved my issue!......... I agree with few points that you raised, but I still think that Orbi is a great product with excellent potential and Netgear is a good company with many high quality products. This is how I see Orbi:Good:Orbi's hardware and software design makes it one of the best mesh systems in the market, if not the best. Hardware capabilities are unique and until today not many other brands have anything close. The operating system on which Orbi is built is powerful and flexible which makes it easy to find and fix faults and introduce new features and functions.Every Orbi software release makes the product a better product by fixing bugs and introducing new functionality. In 2.3.5.30 the following was made better:Devices are roaming much better and more consistent in 2.3.3.50No more wireless devices showing as wired in Attached Devices.Looks like Netgear made improvements and fine tuned the radio parameters:I see that Band Steering is working now more effectively. Devices that have 5 GHz capability are -mostly- being moved to 5 GHz.Devices are moving between the bands and between the Router and Satellites with no disconnections. At the same time I see less DHCP events in the Logs which -for me- means that only needed "roamings" are happening, specially for the stationary IoT devices.Logs in Orbi are consistent (no missing log types), and not getting full very quickly as when I had the wifi disconnects.Bad:Every new software introduces new faults that were not existing in previous releases. In 2.3.5.30 this following faults were introduced:Wired backhaul loops if you also have done wireless sync between router and satellite.Sensitivity to connected devices that can cause the whole system to stop fuctioning well.ISP lease time issue is still existing. This was introduced in 2.3.x software and is still there.Communication is not the best. We don't see presence for Netgear's support and design engineers to help usets to troubleshoot and fix issues. Also Support's response and resolution times are usually not acceptable. What can Netgear do to make Orbi a better product:Better communication is needed. Netgear should monitor this forum, be present and provide feedback.Better testing. System and regression testing should be improved to avoid introducing new faults with every software.Introducing of built'in troubleshooting tools -in the Orbi app and web GUI- to help users to find and fix issues. For example it took me few days to find out that Orbi's sensitivity to a faulty speaker caused all wireless devices to continuously drop wifi, until I found out the culprit speaker and factory reset that speaker to fix the issue,

The release notes from the interface tiself stop before they're finished (they don't even exist in the raw html) but here is what we can see : Release Notes:[Bug Fix] Fixes issues with the Apple HomeKit connectivity. [Bug Fix] Fixes the wireless crash and reboot issue when the router is under stress. [Bug Fix] Fixes the WiFi disconnection and IOT issue. [Bug Fix] Fixes the guest isolation issue for multicast and broadcast traffic between the main host and guest. [Bug Fix] Fixes the Ethernet backhaul boot-sequence issue. [Bug Fix] Updates the OpenVPN certificate from MD5 to SHA-256.[New Features and Enhancements] Circle Parental Controls support for India. [New Features and Enhancements] Auto Time zone detection feature and setting. [Bug Fixes] The client was not able to obtain an IP address when the router rebooted or the client renewed the IP address. [Bug Fixes] The iOS speed test uploaded the throughput issue in PPPoE mode. [Bug Fixes] Issues with the Japanese language string. [Bug Fixes] The user wasnt able to log in to the GUI after finishing the GUI installation. [Bug Fixes] The router GUI could not be accessed using oribilogin.com or orbilogin.net. [Securi I'm guessing this next one is a security fix. Anyway, already from the list, it's worth updating!

A factory reset should not be required for every little issue we face with this router.

NetNoob777 wrote:Hi AllI have read through the 160+ post under this new version 2.3.5.30 versionSo the story being when I bought the ORBI RBK50 on 9th Aug 2019. Plugged it all up and left he firmware update to 2.3.5.30 no issue there for RBR or RBSWork well for 24+ day and the reboots start happening on the Sunday morning and ever since. I found at first that I notice it was 3 time with in 12 hour period. Then I was doing more monitoring the reboots would be between 20min intervals to it running up to 12 hours. RBR50 – 1 network cable from the modem\router to the Ewan port on the backRBS50 – has 4 Ethernet connection to devices 1st configuration I tried and want to use.Modem Billion 7800NXL – Wireless turn off but router left active as I want it that was.Orbi RBR50 – wired direct to the modem port 1.set in to AP ModeWith these change set- SSID Name,- Wifi Password,- 2.4ghz set to channel 8 (1 used for Sonos, 6 & 11 to many in my neighbourhood) Note: The sonos boost is connect directly to port 2 on my modem Channel 1. The sonos works perfectly no drop out or issue when the orbi reboots After 3 days had enough and Downgrade to FW 2.3.1.60 to see if the original firmware had the same issue out of the box, this time the following 2 configs were used. 2nd configurationModem config same as aboveOrbi RBR50 and RBS50 both factory reset.- Left the RBR50 as router mode this time. With these change set- SSID Name,- Wifi Password,- 2.4ghz left to Auto this time as I forgot to change it- Daisy chain – turn it off (after reading it on this forum)Ran for 12+ hours without any reboots. 3rd configurationWithout factory reset 2nd config I just change it from router mode to AP mode worked great for 3 hours then reboot started3hours, 45min, 1hr and 45min And so on.So then on tops of 2nd config I change- 2.4ghz to channel 8- 20/40hz coexistence – turn it off (after reading it on this forum)- Also turn off the RBS50 which has a few thing connected via Ethernet as I read some people found there RBS50 with Ethernet attached devices were causing issue. I haven’t turn off\unplugged all my sonos because I don’t see how they would be affecting the RBR50 as they are not plugged in to it. I have been thinking of upgrading again to 2.3.5.30 to see if it make any differences as I did see one of the bug fixed in that first wear was to fix the random reboots. But as you can see I was getting them with my first configuration Any other thought recommendations would be great. If I don’t get a resolution by this weekend or early next week I have been told by the store I can return it.Just have to look for another solution if it is the velop or something else. Well I had enough last wednesday. I spent tuesday night configuring all my router setting in to the orbi and set my Billion 7800nxl to Bridge mode then did some testing of routers and then went to bed. Wednesday woke up a check up time of the router and it say 36min which is telling me it had reboot during the night. Two hours later reboot again. So after that I had enought the Orbi it would reboot in AP or Router Mode so factory reset and back to ththe shop I bought it from and swapped it for Linksys Velop Tri-band. went home hookup it up set to AP mode, configured the nodes and then put them in the correct location around the house. Then did a rescan on the channels to make sure they are optimized and been running sold ever since. Orbi would be a great product if it just worked.

Just updated a RBK50 system via autoupdate and select update all. Upgrade smooth.
No config sync seen. GOOD is the status of the RBS connected via wireless.

I'll be posting some WAN to LAN speed results soon:

Automatic update worked for me. Was not as speedy as I had expected, but smooth. Seems to be working OK.

One change I had not expected. The Attached Devices page had an announcement at the top that Access Control is turned on and new devices are blocked from connecting. This was not how I had it configured before the update. Would have been a lot of head-scratching if this had updated silently and I unboxed a new device. Oh, yes. No more "silent updates". But still, I would have expected the update to keep Access Control settings as they were. It kept most of my device tables the way they were, but it changed two smart switches from Allowed to Blocked.

what mode are you running in?? is it AP or Router? I don't see the access control section you are speaking of, I have a ton of smart switches and devices and this will be a huge problem for me if it's on..

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I didn't spend the amount of money on the Orbi just to have Netgear use the config screens for graphics to download an app I already have (referring to the graphic for the Orbi app in the new firmware). Would be nice if Netgear would clean the interface up some instead of cluttering it up more or better yet add some features that are missing.

I tried updating my Orbi RBR 50 and RBS50. The status on the RBR50 is "Update failed" and the status on the RBS50 is "V2.3.5.30". How do I fix the "Update failed" issue?

I don't do manual updates.

Does this update qualify as a 'auto' update?

    Thanks

I'm wondering if this update qualifies for a NG push?

I was told by the NG support folks that the only updates that will be pushed are those with with major changes. Others are at the users preference.

Did the update successfully this afternoon. No idea how long it took, as I left the house. Things appear to be stable and normal. The only recent issues I was experiencing was a couple HomeKit light switches dropping out, presumably this is solved. Time will tell.

Be sure to do a new backup config to file for safe keeping. Mines online as of today offically. Looking good here. RBS is wired. No Config Sync issues.

But you factory reset, yes? Haven't seen too many happy posts of people simply using the update function.

I updated the firmware through the app and seems to connect fine to the internet, but (there is always a but)... now I am unable to connect to the Orbi App and the only way is to access remotely. Additionally my wired conection to Orbi is not recognized and connects it automatically to my spectrum modem, so I cannot access to routerlogin.com.

Does anyone have seen this? I hate to reset and connect again 20+ devices again. Ugh

This is the archtypical concern that some of us have, Which is to say that the in place update when carrying over changed settings from stock leaves the system in a state where seemingly strange behaviors are observed, at which point the only viable recourse is to factory reset and clear out the entire network which can take hours of time to do correctly in a large family home.

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Try orbilogin.com for Orbi web page.

Updated firmware manually through the iOS app. WiFi was dropping on and off. Did factory reset on router and satellites. WiFi still continues to drop and come back up. No problems before update.

Upgraded RBR50 & RBS50 using auto upgrade through safari browser with no issues.

I run ALL default settings(no changes from factory) except:
- Set Static Open DNS IPs instead of using Auto ISP DNS
- Enable Implicit Beamforming in Advanced Wireless Settings
- Enable MU-MIMO in Advanced Wireless settings

I dont run Armor, Family Circle, or guest network. And I dont separate SSIDs

I have an RBR50 with two RBS50 Satelites. I went to check if I needed a firmware update. iOS app always says no. So I logged into the RBR50 UI on my phone. Sure enough it set an update was needed. I hit update and waited.
When I restarted the UI I had version V2.3.5.30. I could not remember if that's what I had or not. So I tried logging into netgear.com.
After 30 minutes of trying to log in, including changing my password twice I gave up and just started browsing support.
In support it showed the current update as being V2.3.1.60. No where could I find anything higher than this version. Am I dense? Why do I have firmware that's a number of iterations past what is listed on the website?

Welcome to "Orbi World". You have every reason to find the situation puzzling. Previously, Netgear had the Orbi set up to update firmware automatically on a signal from Netgear. (Some) Users were upset and angry when their networks updated and things stopped working. Netgear started a beta program for "early adopters", but that still didn't address the problem.

So, these days, Netgear routers will "discover" that a new firmware is available when the user happens to navigate to web interface, and it's up to the user if they want to update or not. Meanwhile, some other people at Netgear who maintain the support web site will eventually decide it's time to put the new firmware on the support site for download.

So, YES, the firmware you have is the "latest" firmware. Since you posted on this thread, you are aware that lots of people have installed it. Some are happy (me), and some are definitely NOT happy.

Those gadzillions of Orbi customers who never look at the Orbi web interface are blissfully unaware, and probably happy to be so. At some (future) point, Netgear will probably force a firmware update on them, and they will (most likely) still be blissfully unaware. UNLESS, of course, something "goes horribly wrong", in which case they may find this user forum and post a question.

I upgraded each satellite, then the main router, but when everything came back up had a speedtest problem where the speed would clock in at less than half of my allowed bandwidth.

So ... I reset the cable modem, power cycled the RBR50, and power cycled each of the RBS50s and waited for everyone to resume talking to one another.

Result: speedtest came back with anticipated speed, and all seems to be well.

Thanks for letting us know. Seem to take a power cycle and a few minutes for the system to settle in. Glad it's working for you. Enjoy.
