Re: Cant access my http://readycloud.netgear.com site

I am joining this thread quite late so apologies if I repeat something that has already been said earlier.

My situation is that all of my ReadyCloud users have been offline since yesterday at around 4pm GMT+1.  I had hoped that it would correct itself but alas we are all still locked out.  What I have managed to do is go to the site where the ReadyNas is situated and I have accessed the admin centre to see what the problem is.  All of the files are still there backed up but none can be accessed.  The reason for this is that every user account has been removed from the ReadyNAS and as a result of this so have all of the shares.  This means that nothing is being backed up.

If there is no way to automatically reinstate all of the user accounts then it will take me a week to set each one up again and then even longer to set up the ReadyShares so that our data is backed up correctly.  This is a huge blow to me and my small business.

This is of course appreaciated but your choice of words earlier was not. Backups of backups may be our responsibility but in some cases like me, our backup-backups are mearly a redundant usb drive that gets connected once a month if not longer and then powered down on a shelf. This will then result in hours of restore and at the least a month of lost data. That carries a cost!

Netgear's sympathy and support at this early juncture would be very much an appreaciated start.

Holy Crap!

Same thing happend to me overnight. (03/30/2017 to 03/31/2017)

Can login into readycloud website but then it shows my NAS as offline.

Cannot login to admin page as it shows username/ password as bad

Cannot log into SMB of AFP folders via direct network connection ( conntecting to server via mac os)

Can logon via non admin account but only some of my files are there.

Can see NAS on network with good IP adress

At the same time our warranty and manuals do clearly state that backups are important. We put a lot of time and effort into maintaining features to backup your data because we may have features like snapshots, anti-virus, bit-rot protection, RAID etc. but there are problems that those cannot protect against whether within or outside our control.

You can spend much more on a server than what you'd spend on our high end RR4360X and still run into problems where you need to restore from backup.

Before I got my first ReadyNAS I experienced data loss and I've learnt from that painful experience and work to do all I can to prevent others from experiencing that pain where possible or helping with learning the lessons from data loss in the unfortunate event that is experienced.

We're very disappointed with what's happened and we are working to make changes so that the cause of this particular problem is fixed.

We've already identified some changes to make to servers at our end and some changes that can be made to the firmware.

We pride ourselves on providing the best protection for data in the section of the NAS market we operate in.

We're adding additional RAID choices, namely RAID-50 and RAID-60 in the upcoming 6.7.0 release which provide a good balance between performance, redundancy and capacity for volumes utilizing large/huge numbers of disks.

OK , so what you can do to prevent future P**S UPS by netgear is to make it so that the home directories are not deleted when the user is removed from the cloud/cloud becomes unattached. This won't help us return our lost data/time etc but prevents further c**p from netgear p***ing us all off

Please can we have a commitment from you on this ?

How do I log this request with your development team and make it a priority ?

Re: ReadyCloud service went offline and Delete all user accounts and files

I do not know that is why I made the post. This what I found so far and it does not look good.

https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyCLOUD/Cant-access-my-http-readycloud-netgear-com-site/m-p/1257...

I can not find the original post on this web site, but it recommended if you want to recover your data to do this.

https://www.google.com/search?q=replicateMe&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=reclaiMe+readynas&*

I do realize two things after losing data.

1) I never use the home folders again

2) I have lost confidence in the Netgear products.

Lost Admin access for no apparent reason

For some reason as of today I am unable to login to my ReadyNAS admin portal or access any of my shares that require admin access (i.e. all drives that don't have guest access). I haven't executed any updates to my system in the last few days. The last event I was involved with was replacing a defective drive last week (which rebuilt to restore my RAID5).

It couldn't have come at a worse time with some deadlines this weekend.

I'd be eternally grateful for any help or suggestiong for next steps to establish what the issue is and how to resolve it.

Holy Crap!

For some reason my ReadyNas 104 with 6.6.1 firmware reset to the default admin user name and password, which ironically is admin, password.

How the F did that happen?

It seems nothing with netgear is working as it should. Their response is very underwealming. Also if you had any data in home directories of the cloud users and haven't a different back up its gone

Re: ReadyCloud service went offline and Delete all user accounts and files

I have another ReadyNAS device that was unaffected and I am currently moving all data from the home folders in a regular share. I manually administer the security. I no longer have confidence in the ReadyCloud or user home folders when the data could easily be lost just because a user is removed.

This is completely unacceptable. If I had accidentally deleted the account or folder myself or even if it was a hardware malfunction, I would agree that this would be my fault. However, in this situation it was a screw up on Netgear's end. It was Netgear that deleted my account off of my personal device without my consent. Myself and everyone else out there who was affected by this "unfortunate" event deserve some sort of compensation from Netgear. I currently have a case open about it and if it cannot be resolved, I will need to send my NAS into a data recovery service which will most likely cost up into the thousands to get them to recover the data. I would expect and will demand that Netgear picks up that bill to make up for their mistake. I agree, mistakes happen but we all need to take responsibility for them, including Netgear. I guarantee that if things are not resolved, I will never ever buy a Netgear product again, nor will I refer them to anyone.

AGREED and by the way netgear. I might need to upgrade my router soon. Guess what It WON'T BE !!!!

Destroying shares is a destructive process and we have warnings in the GUI about this if you manually go to delete a user/share.

We have looked at some affected systems and been unable to recover data from the deleted home shares as yet. You should disable volume maintenance for now and better yet boot into volume read-only mode (so no changes are made to your volume) to try to make sure nothing happens that may jeopardise data recovery just in case our investigation uncovers ways to recover data from deleted home shares.

It's unfortunate that this happened but ultimately having an up to date backup is your responsibility.

Yeah but WE DIDN'T DESTROY THE SHARES , YOU DID !

Re: Cant access my http://readycloud.netgear.com site

Just want to add my .02.  I'm a home user, not a business or anything, but I noticed this issue today for the first time.  I've had access to all of my share folders that I've created, but the web login was like everyone else, "offline".  Luckily for me, my NAS is onsite and I didn't set up my shares in the home folder, so I didn't lose any data.  The fact that Netgear hasn't sent out a warning e-mail or official we f'd up email is absoultley redicoulus.  If they want their products to be used in a professional enviornment, this is not the way to go about convincing thier existing client base or future customers.

Re: Cant access my http://readycloud.netgear.com site

Once I was able to log in I changed my admin password and set the recovery email settings.

Then went to the log file to see what was going on.

It showed that two of the four user accounts were deleted about 10 seconds apart.

I am the only admin on this device so unless my 70 year old mother, 50 year old wife or 12 yr old daughter have recenly taken an interest in "that computer thing in the basement" i think something is afoot.

I have not checked to see what data was lost yet, if any. The major share folders I created still seem to be there, Music, Movies ....

My guess is that there is a backdoor into these devices that has now been exploited or there is a major flaw in the firmare/ OS that is randomly deleting users.

My solution to prevent backdoor access is to have the NAS turn on only when I will be home and using it then turn off when I go to bed.

If it's the firmware/ OS then we have to wait for Netgear and backup the backup.

Pretty lame.
