User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
All the other shares are there, just not the users. It also prompts to authenticate again if I try to go into one of the protected shares; like it's logging in with guest access only. I recently had support reinstall the OS when I got hit with the 4.2.21 issue, though all the shares/data remained intact, I just had to recreate the users. Could it be that I have to move all the data from the user folders (like to backup), delete and recreate the users and move the data back?

Try http://www.readynas.com/contributed/ewok/FixHomeShareOwnership_0.1-x86.bin (Installation is via System > Update > Local) in Frontview.

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
The odd thing though, this only happens on Windows systems, Mac's don't have this problem at all.

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
Can you access the user shares on Windows systems not through ReadyNAS Remote, but on the same local network as the NAS?

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
I'm going to check this when I get back to the house; I never tested the Windows side because I'm always connecting over Mac. I think there is a step that I'm missing during connections. When I connect with my Mac client, I get prompted for my local readynas credentials (not readynas remote ones) and then it lists what shares I could connect to, the user share obviously listed. When I'm connecting with the Windows client, it never prompts me for the local readynas credentials, therefor dropping me on the NAS as a guest. So I guess I'm trying to sort when/where I would put my local credentials in to see the correct shares. This readynas remote setup page stops basically where I'm at http://www.readynas.com/?p=1435
Side note, for those using Mac's running VMWare Fusion 3.x with Windows Guests... the ReadyNAS Remote client will break your VM network adapter when it installs the Leaf Adapter, after your next reboot following installation and you may have to uninstall/reinstall VMWare Tools to get it to work again. I spent the better part of 4 hours trying to nail that one down.

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
So I tested the connection just fine when on the local LAN. Under Network, double clicking the NAS prompts me for a user/password and all shares including the user folder are then presented. When using readynas remote on the Windows client, you have to individually map the shares via the net use command. The issue basically comes down to having the NAS prompt for local credentials on the Windows client before it presents the shares or makes the connection like it does with the Mac client. Or am I missing something?

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
If you use same user name and password for Nas user and windows user it should not prompt for password.

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
Ok, support just said that the user folders are not available when using readynas remote; which isn't the case if you use the net use command and map the folder with the Windows client or easily mounted when using the Mac client. Can anyone else here confirm they can't get the user folder over the Windows client?

Re: User folders not available over ReadyNAS Remote
Ok, here is the process to access the users folder in the Windows client:
1. Connect to the NAS via ReadyNAS Remote
2. Once connected, note the IP address that assigned to the NAS; do not open the ReadyNAS Shares folder in explorer.
3. Use the net use command to map a drive: net use (drive letter): \\(ReadyNAS Remote assigned IP)\(user folder) (password) /user:(username)
4. Once successfully connected, double click the NAS shortcut in the ReadyNAS Shares folder in Windows Explorer.
5. All shares, including the users folder will be there.
So if the Windows client would prompt for credentials when you click on the NAS in the ReadyNAS Shares folder, it would alleviate the extra step.
