Impossible to Setup SqueezeCenter etc.
Hello all
I'm new to this board and just installed (or tried to install) The ReadyNAS Duo. Lots of problems, but I wil mention one of them:
Why Don't I succed to setup SqueezeCenter?
Under Services --> SqueezeCenter I chose SqueezeCenter and then Setup, but nothing happens, Shouldn't that software be preinstalled? ?
I've read through the start guide as well as the PDF file, but haven't found any answer to this question.
Apart from this little detail there are lots of things that are difficult to understand here, maybe mostly because I'm a newbie and because English is not my native language (but Norwegian). According to NETGEAR the setup should be very easy; 15 minutes should suffice, but we've spent several hours already with not much success.
Thanks for any help!

- bkvAspirantHi
I believe I had to install the Squeezecenter add on first. Go to Add-ons->Add new and use the linl http://www.readynas.com/addons
Bjørn - JantiAspirantThanks, Bjørn.
I will try that!
Jan - markwollGuideIf you have the squeeze center checked in streaming services it is enabled.
Open a browser window to {ip address of readynas duo}:9000 ( i.e. 192.168.0.2:9000 ).
This will bring up the setup screen for the Squeezebox Server. You will be asked for you username and password for mysqueezebox.com and the location of your music files on the readynas duo.
After you have entered this info the squeezebox server main page will come up, and the squeezebox server will begin to scan your music library.
Depending upon which squeeze box music players you have , Duet, Boom, Radio, etc you may need to upgrade your server software.
The upgrade instructions for readynas can be found here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/S ... n_ReadyNAS
If you have already upgraded your firmware to the latest version, skip those steps.
I have had good luck with the 7.6.1 software. Some other people have not. Sometimes non english characters cause problems with the library scanning portion of the product.
mark - JantiAspirantThank you very much, Mark! I will try this tonight!
Jan - I had a few problems with 7.6.1. There is now a 7.6.2 version available and also a 7.7. I have installed the 7.7 because I required the SqueezeBox Server to access more than one folder. I have split my music into separate folders such as LossLess and MP3 etc.
Provided you have setup the SqueezeBox Server correctly on your NAS and that you have configured your Squeezeboxes correctly it should work perfectly. There are also a few rather good iPhone, iPad and Android Apps available which make the whole SqueezeBox experience very enjoyable.
I made great use of Genre iTags etc to make my system more manageable and easier to locate my music. Equally PLayLists can be used etc...
Now I guess my CD's are redundant.... - JantiAspirant

Hello Bjørn (or anybody else)!
Where do I find these Go to Add-ons and Add new? On the Frontview? I don't find it there.
I find add-ons here:
http://www.readynas.com/?cat=36
And it says:
"Description: Update your SqueezeCenter on your ReadyNAS with the full version provided by Logitech."
Thus it seems it should already be installed.
Anyway. I cannot find it or enable it. I may tick off Enable in the Frontview and press Apply, but the next time i come to that page, it's not ticked off anymore.
Besides: What does the following mean:
There are two variants - the Pro/NX and the NV/NV+/Duo. Make sure to select the correct version for your ReadyNAS
CleanSqueezeCenter for sparc (NV, NV+, and Duo models) - http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=617
(Found here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/S ... n_ReadyNAS)
How do I find out which of these variants I should install if any? As far as I know I have a regular ReadyNAS Duo, I don't know what Pro, NX etc. means.
Or is the only file or add-on I nead the one called CleanSqueezeCenter for x86 (Pro and NVX models) - found here: http://www.readynas.com/download/addons ... .0-x86.bin ?
Sorry for what might be considered stupid questions, but the fact is that none of my friends understand this either. None of us are programmers, but we are not too stupid either (I believe).
Best regards
Jan - You install a Add-On within FrontView.
On the FrontView menu select system/update/local then choose the binary file you want to install. Once the file is installed you can check the box to activate it.
To get the latest version of the SqueezeBox server for your NAS go to the Logitech site and download the required binary file. This is the file you need to install as detailed above.
There are two variants of the Netgear Nas. The Duo is the spark based and you need to ensure that you download the correct binary file for this model. The Pro is a x86 processor model and is aimed at serious home or business users.
After installation of the SqueezeBob Server on your Nas you will need to configure your SqueezeBoxes. - JantiAspirantIt turned out most of my problems with the SqueezeCenter were do to an error in the ReadyNAS software. Netgear fixed the problems remotely by logging into my PC. But it was not easy for them either.
Now I just have to get the systen to find all the music files on my ReadyNAS, it keeps stopping at the 47th file.
Regards!
