I switched to XRAID-2/RAID6 and reinstalled the OS (before the volume was rebuilt).
The volume is rebuilding now.
It set the admin password back to the default but did not restore the factory shares.
I do have the factory apps.
I guess I'll recreate the factory shares and see how it goes.. at least I feel a little safer about the RAID settings.
BTW, I had tried backing up the configs before I started, but the backup process just kept spinning.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm trying all these things on an old Pro too.

at first I'm enjoing the silence with my pro 6! Did it the glem-way. 😄 Thank you!!!! :worship:

From time to time I cannot login via ssh:

Sometimes on 192.168.1.16 (static) I get no respone at all.
Sometimes I can only access the nas vie the second interface. Any clues?

Also I have problems with samba, I guess: The Pro 6 (OS 6.05) often cannot be seen, neighter with android (es file browser) nor under Windows 7 (32/64). 😞 And if it shows up, I cannot access the shares (factory settings!), because (translated errormessage:) "\\Nas couldn't be accessed". The Windows7 assistance says there is no computer names "Nas" on the network also it showed up...
If the VirtualBox NASOS6.05 (many thanks )showes up all the shares can be accessed with no problems... strange

btw: no proplems with my Duo V1 at all.

Updating my Ultra to OS 6 worked straight away. Thanks to those who made this available.

However I could not get readycloud to work on my Ultra with OS 6.05. At the end of the registration proces it asks for the Backup button to be pressed.
But nothing happens when this button is pressed.

Is there a work around for this?

Also activating the Dropbox functionality in OS 6.05 did not work. The Dropbox webpage says "The request to link the app is invalid"

But I am still having problems it does not seem to be working, the fan speed does not change and it's quite loud.
Also the LCD does not seem to turn off.

You can try (to download the latest packages):
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

You have to stop/start fancontrol daemon for changes in file /etc/fancontrol takes effect
...change values in file
/etc/init.d/fancontrol stop
/etc/init.d/fancontrol start

May be you have a problem with your two ip addresses configuration on the same NAS in the same subnetwork... Why one static address and one DHCP? Normally, the MTU would be the same within a given network... strange issues are possible when you mix MTU within a subnetwork, and within a multi-NIC server too...
You have one hostname with two IP addresses in the same network... As you described before, Windows use hostname and doesn't like it.

You can try bonding the two NICs in "Adaptative Load Balancing" mode, you don't need any special switch configuration for this mode. You will have only one mac address and one IP address....and one MTU. Go to network menu to activate it.

You must not define a very low temperature, otherwise fan run already loud to decrease temperature, and it cannot do this. For example, I think 20°C is too low for system temperature. MINTEMP parameter would be the optimal temp read by the sensor, id normal running temp.
This is the same thing for fan rpm : define MINSTART, MINSTOP, MINPWM as the same value, the optimal value correspond to the lowest realistic rpm value you want to have in normal running.
For example on Ultra6, minimal system temperature would be around 37°C, minimal CPU temp around 51°C, minimal system fan 900 rpm (may be higher on pro6).

Do you remember temp and rpm values with 4.2.xx ? they are the best ones.

Linux noob here. Since the links for the Fancontrol drivers are dead. Ive been trying to find another copy of thoes drivers all over the internet, but sadly unable to find them. I however think i found their source code.

"Us guys" [ReadyNAS Ultra 6] don't need to install any modules, they're available in the kernel (I'm on an Ultra 6).
Check dmesg | grep coretemp it87, the modules are there.

What you need to do first is the following:

apt-get update && apt-get -y upgrade

Change <your_email> to your own email address.

And then edit crontab by typing
crontab -e
and adding the following line:
* * * * * /bin/fan-monitor > /dev/null


This will monitor the CPU temps for both Atom cores & adjust the fan speeds accordingly (for an Ultra 6) & send email when things get out of hand.

It doesn't make frontview display the correct fan speed though, need to figure out how to do that still.
I've finally come around to updating my RN Ultra 6's FW with 3 weeks delay. It's syncing the array right now, will play with it some more this weekend.

A BIG, ++MEGA++ thank you goes out to all the people who made it possible to run NG's latest FW on our legacy devices!!
You know... those devices that are perfectly capable from a HW POV, but were supposedly not eligible for running this firmware according to Netgear...

If anyone might have some tips on how to make frontview report correct fan speeds for an Ultra 6, I'm all ears, thanks! 🙂

I borrowed that one from another board 😛

On the Dashboard native fan monitoring... Once we find out where it stores the config for that, we can update it for the correct values. On boot it would determine the SYSTYPE and change the config accordingly. We can then step in with boot script and change it again for these models. In the 4.x firmware, they used /ramfs/enclosure.cfg to drive where monitor_enclosure would read the values. In 6.0, it looks like readynasd keeps it in its SQLite db file.

Shouldn't be too hard to get the webif to reflect the correct sensors' outputs I'd guess, no. A matter of time - mine or someone else's.
Like I said: I'll be playing a bit with the new FW this weekend.

you don't need to create a specific script to use contrab, all already exists when you install fancontrol. A shell called fancontrol is automaticaly created in /etc/init.d/ and you can use it as a daemon with stop/start commands. No need to reboot. It's easier 😄
