3251 TopicsIssue with old user permissions and NFS
I recently migrated my RN214 to expose NFS shares instead of SMB (no Windows PCs anymore). Turned out that there was a UID collision, user "volker" was auto-assigned UID 100 which I didn't care too much back then. Now, with NFS, UID 100 reflects to systemd-network on my local PC and the system would not let me change attributes, rsync was throwing erros similar to sync: [generator] failed to set permissions on "/media/rn214-Media/somefile": Operation not permitted (1) . So I created a new user "volker" on the RN214 (changing the existing UID was not possible) with UID 1000 which is the same on the local PC after first renaming the existing user volker to "volker_old". This new "volker" can read and write to files owned by "volker_old", copy them around and even delete them, but he can't get ownership of the existing file nor change permissions. Now I have numerous files owned by "volker_old" that I want to transfer to "volker". So I figured running find /data/Media -user volker_old -exec chown volker:users {} \; in a shell on the RN214 would be an elegant solution to this, since find /data/Media -user volker_old returned plenty of hits. However, I get chown: changing ownership of '/data/Media/somefile': Operation not permitted errors, even as admin user belonging to the admin group. sudo does not exist and for su - I don't know the root password - if there is any. Sure, I could just delete all the offending files and copy them over from a backup again, but this is about 5TB of data and will take an eternity. Is there any way to resolve this ownership issue efficiently? Any help highly appreciated.Solved190Views0likes7CommentsUsing ReadyNAS as backend for lightweight web tools — is it reliable?
Hi everyone, I currently maintain a small web tool (for example a gratuity / end-of-service benefit calculator for users in the UAE), and I’m evaluating options to host user data, logs, JSON storage files, and backups. My ideal setup is a lightweight, always-on system without needing a full server. That’s where ReadyNAS caught my interest. Some of the things I’m considering: Using ReadyNAS to host REST APIs, static JSON or YAML config files, and backing up user session data. Ensuring data integrity and performance — especially under concurrent access. Handling firmware updates without breaking API endpoints. Syncing backups to cloud or another NAS for redundancy. A few questions for those experienced with ReadyNAS: 1. Has anyone used ReadyNAS to back a small web service or tool (not just file server)? 2. What is the maximum recommended concurrent requests for lightweight API files (JSON) on ReadyNAS? 3. Which methods have you used for version-safe firmware updates so that custom services are not lost? 4. How do you handle secure access (SSL, tokens) when serving APIs from a NAS that’s also storing private user data? If anyone’s already built similar backend or microservice setups using ReadyNAS, I’d love pointers or pitfalls to avoid. Thank you!1.3KViews0likes3CommentsWindows 11 cannot connect to ReadyNAS NV+
The ReadyNAS NV+ seems booth up fine, its mac address is on the display. When I open the admin page, I got the connection timed out error, and unable to connect to any of my network drives. What could be the problem and how to fix it? I am running Windows 11 Ver 25H2 build 26200.7171/818Views0likes3CommentsDelete files
Hello friends of this forum! I accidentally deleted some files and the NAS did not have the recycle bin or snapshots enabled. Is there a way to recover the files before I kill myself? This is the ReadyNas Pro 4 model - Radiator 4.2.31 4 disks in Raid 2. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me.....Solved902Views0likes5CommentsWin 11 or RN202?
'Newbie' here...... New Win11 computer, now can't write to ReadyNas 202. Access is fine, able to copy/read from new computer, even media player in TV room on WiFi, but can't put/paste new files on RN202. everything was fine with previous Win10 computer (not same hardware) Can access Admin thru browser/URL, log-on, etc On This PC, NAS shows up as a drive and is accessible (read only) On Windows Explorer navigation column, click on NAS get: Windows cannon access NAS Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose (which is useless). Permissions on both computer & NAS are 'wide open'628Views0likes2CommentsCorruption when reading large files from an RN31400 over SMB
When I copy a large file (example: Ubuntu 24.04.3 ISO, 6.3 GB) from my RN31400 NAS to my local drive on a Windows 10 machine using SMB, the file will almost always contain at least one error (as detected with fc /b). If I copy the same file to the same drive when the machine is booted into Linux and using NFS, the file will contain no errors. Has anyone run into this? I'm using the latest NAS firmware (6.10.10).Solved852Views0likes3CommentsAudit Logs

I was in the middle of running a full backup of my readynas 10400 system yesterday and something has gone wrong. Now I cannot access the shares, and the system is showing the message that 'No Volumes Exist' and telling me to remove inactive volumes in order to use the disks. It was set up as a Raid 5 array using 4 discs, and one of them failed the other day, hence my decision to run a backup. I do not have a full backup of all the data so I need to get access back into those shares. I am at a loss as to what to do. I've replaced the failed drive with a new one but still no joy. From what I have read this probably means that the array is out of sync but I don't know how to get it to resyncronise. I have downloaded the logs so can supply them if required. I was in the process of setting up a robust backup system when this happened, so I hadn't managed to back it all up yet. Help, basically.569Views0likes1Comment
