ORBI RBR20 please help
hi recently upgraded my internet from 120 mbps to 1gb, they come and upgraded my modem and now im having issues with the orbi kicking my modem offline and no devices working
hitron CODA-4589 is my modem
and the orbi rbr20.
even with 0 sattelites running it is kicking my modem offline. unable to bridge the modem as it uses my tivo tv services i guess, but it was never bridged before i upgraded anyways.
multiple hours on the phone with no proper english help...
this is my last resort before i sell it and go get a google home or something.. i am fed up.. also getting under 100 mbps before and after upgrade, they want to send a replacement router but i dont see it the issue..
- I am going to accept the solution that it was the ISP modem all along..even after swapping out the hitron coda 4589 did just not want to keep my orbi online.
With my new Arris modem I have been staying online !
Just having slight issues with orbi speeds I will open a new thread and thanks for everyone who assisted and listened to me in this topic

- CodybutsAspiranti have also disabled wifi on the hitron modem and that didnt work, also tried orbi in AP mode and that didnt work
Latest firmware and already did a reinstall of the router with tech support- CodybutsAspirantIt will work fine for a bit and then disconnect or drop my internet until I reboot the hitron modem

Your ISP modem already has a built in router and wifi.
http://www.hitron-americas.com/product/coda-4589/
This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
https://kb.netgear.com/19863/Ping-Test-to-determine-Optimal-MTU-Size-on-RouterI recommend you try option #2, if this doesn't work well, try option #3.
Definitely try #3 - using the Orbi in AP mode. Make sure the firmware is current, do a reset on the satellite and orbi router. As FURRYe38 noted, if you've got dueling DHCP servers, routers connected to routers in router mode, that could cause a lot of issues.
- CodybutsAspirantHi I've already disabled the wifi on the modem, the 2.4 and 5g lights are off.
Firmware is up to date.
I stated I have tried ap mode and tried bridging it but it automatically keeps gateway option on because of my tv service.
The only part I don't understand is
"configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode."
Could you give me instructions on this please ? I'm ready to give up- CodybutsAspirantI have tried setting the Orbi as an Access Point and the problem remains. After a period of time, as long as 6 hours, devices connected to the Orbi lose internet, and I have to reboot the modem to get it back.

- CodybutsAspirantMy ISP came again switched the hitron out for some other arrys box..bridging didn't work again as it uses my tv services..so they set the ISP wifi ssid and password to the same as my orbi.
Does this make any sense ?- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
What is the model# of the new modem?
Is the RBR in AP mode still? If so, you should be getting internet thru the Orbi RBR and it's wifi.
They really should have used a separate SSID name for your TV services WiFi. This may confuse you and your wireless devices and your wireless devices will connect to the ISP modems wifi instead of the Orbis wifi.
- CodybutsAspirantI will get the model number when I get back home.
I don't believe they share the same public wifi with the tv but a different wifi or something in the modem..
I'm really not sure, I will report back
- CodybutsAspirantMy cellphone connects to sat 2 in 2.4 GHz standing beside it. And I moved sat 2 further away and am getting around 80 now
- CodybutsAspirantI would have to say problem solved for now, not sure what else I could do to improve..is there anyway to get more than 150 in garage ? I mean it's not even really necessary is it haha .
At this point I'm quite happy. Nothing is disconnecting constantly.. both orbi status are good. - CodybutsAspirantAlso like I stated my isp renamed their wifi to mine ( althout I don't think it does anything at all and I told them that , also made sure to forget it in my wifi list so I never connect to it, they also said they switched some band mode ? Idk either way I'm pretty sure I can login my router and disable their wifi and it won't change a thing, I know it's seperate from the TiVo wifi or something cause I've done it on each modem .
- CodybutsAspirantMy only issue now is after sitting in my living room for half hour and check my speed it's 40 Mbps, I reload my wifi connection and it goes back to 500.. what causes this ?
