genie installer/updater not windows 10 compatable
I upgraded to Windows 10 and had netgear genie installed at the time. Genie worked just fine on Win 10 until I tried to upgrade to the newest version of genie. The installer deleted the old version and crashed installing the new. A message is displayed to reboot and retry the install. That didn't work and it tried compatability mode which also fails. I ran the Microsoft compatability troubleshooter which returned a 'program not compatible error'. Now I don't have genie. Any fixes or thoughts?
Hi grumpybs,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie should be compatible with Windows 10. I suggest making sure that the program has been completely uninstalled by checking Programs and Features under Control Panel. You can then try to reinstall the program by downloading the latest version using he link below.

I tried the recommed solusion for the same issue and it does not work on my Windows 10 Pro version. Any suggestions?
Have you tried using the compatability troubleshooter on the program prior to installing it? I think I installed mine using Windows 7 settings.

The Moderator should remove the tag "Problem Solved" from this post. As of 08-11-15 it is not solved.

I just got my netgear router today and tried installing Netgear Genie which displays "NETGEAR Genie has stopped working" "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close sthe program and notify you if a solution is aviable." I tried troubleshooting it through windows already but it doesn't work, and reinstalling did nothing. I'm on windows 10 , fully updated with all my drivers and routers firmware. Hopefully this can be looked at and fixed, seems I'm not alone.

I have 2 Windows 10 machines, 1 x Windows 10 Home and 1 x Windows 10 Pro and Genie was working happily on both. After MS released Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.3), Genie was uninstalled during the Home version update due to a incompatibility issue, however, Genie version 2.4.16 is working without issue on the Windows 10 Pro. I have downgraded the Win 10 Home machine to Genie Version 2.4.12 until the next release.
Event log post Windows update on the Win10 Home system is below:

Just wanted to let you know I'm another Windows 10/Dell user who upgraded to version 16 yesterday and immediately lost the Genie, so I was happy to find this thread in which the links to version 12 are provided. It appears to be working fine.

Hi Dexter and others one. Some days ago Microsoft installed the last update for the tablet Surface Pro 3, from Windows10 Home, to Windows 10 Pro. I had the 2.4.12 version installed of Genie, and it continued running ok.
Today I've tested the 2.4.14 install and don't run, crash. It give the usual error.
After uninstallation of 2.4.14 I've reinstalled the 2.4.12 version of Genie, and it run again ok.
Thanx. - DanGaAspirant
Same problem as others. Network Genie will not fully install with Windows 10. Very annoying.

As discussed in previous posts, the latest version of Genie won't install.
I also tried a previous version (.12) and it did install. However, I still cannot get it to recognise the WiFi adapter and connect to the network. The LED lights up on the adapter, but when you try to connect to the (WiFi) network you get the dreaded spinning circle for a very long time. THEN it finally asks me to connect the ethernet cable because it can't find it.
Of course there is no ethernet cable, which is why I bought this adapter.
Did the un-install process they insisted upon remove the device drivers?
- mrawmillerAspirantI'm having the same exact issues. What's the solution

I recently got the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC3000 X6 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router (R7900), and it has been working great. I love the Netgear Genie, but windows did an update a few days ago and now everytime I try to open the Netgear genie I get the windows message that the Netgear genie has stopped working. I tried uninstalling and re-installing and get same exact error. Do you know what could be causing this error, or how I can fix it?

Hi tyanjarosy,
There may be some components on some Windows 10 updates that do not work well with the latest version of the NETGEAR Genie program. We are working on a fix for this. In the mean time, you may use the download link below for the previous version that works with Windows 10.
