genie installer/updater not windows 10 compatable
I upgraded to Windows 10 and had netgear genie installed at the time. Genie worked just fine on Win 10 until I tried to upgrade to the newest version of genie. The installer deleted the old version and crashed installing the new. A message is displayed to reboot and retry the install. That didn't work and it tried compatability mode which also fails. I ran the Microsoft compatability troubleshooter which returned a 'program not compatible error'. Now I don't have genie. Any fixes or thoughts?
Hi grumpybs,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie should be compatible with Windows 10. I suggest making sure that the program has been completely uninstalled by checking Programs and Features under Control Panel. You can then try to reinstall the program by downloading the latest version using he link below.

Had a problem with my laptop, so had to reload Windows 8.1 as well as the Windows 10 "update".
Now, as others have mentioned, my Netgear Genie is no long working and is having compatibility issues.
I've tried running compatibility with Windows 7, 81. and 10 and none will allow access even after removing/
reinstalling 12 times.
I sure miss the Genie, and hopefully you folks at Netgear can get us back to enjoying it again.

Hi highdef2012 and uffgnu14,
Please try installing the latest version (2.4.20) of the NETGEAR Genie program and check if it works.

- ... I found a weird work around. The one link the Rep posted was for a cell phone APK. I decided to install the Genie app from the Play Store on my new Note 5. It's not a desktop version, but shows me 95% of the same things about my home network. Guess it'll have to do. I've never had a **bleep**tier product support than this Netgear doofus. Lemme know how you make out.

Just installed Windows 10 cumulative update and guess what?
Netgear Genie has been removed from my system as incompatable with this versin of Windows. :-(
When is there going to be a fix for this?

I have tried to update to .20 today. Through the Genie app and by uninstalling .12 and installing .20..
It doesnt work, same error message. Reverted to a saved version of .12 and its working again.
- Gerry_SATutor
Hi Carll76,
I now have .20 working fine!
I'd like to see you with the latest version working too - please try my idea on this page - message 137.
Uninstall your old version first...
Let me know how you go.

Hi! This happened to me on the last update of Windows. Revert back to the previous build and give the reason that programs aren't working with the new update. You might have to reinstall the previous version of genie.

The "Solution" did not work for me, however I got it working on Windows 10!
I looked through the Windows logs | Application in Event Viewer and found that there was an Application Error, Event ID 1000 each time
I tried to run Genie. This revealed the "Faulting module path" to be C:\Windows\System32\wpcap.dll.
This file is used for packet capture, which obviously Genie needs.
I uninstalled Genie, then downloaded and installed Win10Pcap (Win10Pcap-v10.2-5002.msi) authored by Daiyuu Nobori, University of Tsukuba, Japan.
I reinstalled Genie and Voila! up and running. I hope this solution works for someone else!

Sorry to hear my "solution" didn't work for you. Yes, very funny, lol - I don't follow football at all!
What version of Win 10 are you running? You can find this out by right-clicking on the Windows icon (bottom left), select Run and then type winver and press Enter.
Mine is Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36) for example. I have a 64-bit system. There should be an Application Error generated in the Event Viewer for each time you ran Genie. What is the Faulting module path? This will tell you which dll it doesn't like, and then you can do some research from there.
I forgot to add a link to the download for Win10Pcap.

Gerry

Gerry - Sorry to say that your solution didn't work for me. I downloaded and installed Win10Pcap-v10.2-5002.msi... then tried to re-install Negear Genie.. unfortunately it wouldn't install
- Gerry_SATutor
Sorry to hear that. You say Genie wouldn't install, or wouldn't run?
I installed Win10Pcap AFTER Genie - may make a difference.
I am running Genie Version 2.4.20 (even though it says 2.4.18 in Control Panel), which I assume is the latest, see below.
I'm not sure if having MS VC++ runtime helps, which I had installed before Genie and Win10Pcap...
Also, we all have different apps installed too, which may interfere.

TY Netgear 600 one year old.
I just bought a new Dell Gamer , Win 10 with i5 6th generation processor.
I download genie, however, when I open it, Win 10 says it's not working and will get back to me when it has an answer.
Something is wrong I did a ping command and it is not pinging properly
I have a ebook program it was working great on my old computer, now , I downloaded it again and it cannot send books to my Kindle something is blocking the traffic. That did NOT happen with my old win 7 computer. It has to be something with Win 10. I am not that computer savy, however, I know a bit and something is wrong .
Thanks
Nic
Let me pre-empt Dexter from Netgear's answer - it will be the same one that he has given for over six months. He will give you a link to an old version (*.*.12) and promise you that they are working on the problem.
It may work for some but I am guessing that no-one with a newer Dell running windows 10 has managed to get it working - I certainly have not been able to on two machines.
Netgear either don't know how to fix this or simply don't care
Thinus
- StreetrodderAspirantI'm running a new Dell laptop and the older version works fine on my Windows 10. The new version of Netgear Genie also works fine for me when you follow his post on swaping the drivers folder from the old version into the new version for me. No problem and easy to do.
Over the last six months I have followed every single advice that was provided. The old and new versions as well as the other fixes simply do not work on 2 top of the range Dell/Alienware PCs.
It is totally ridiculous to, after this length of time, still be told to goand find an old outdated software version and fiddle under the bonnet with driver settings to get this App working.
And I am not alone - there are posts every single day about this by new users discovering that the App does not work on their Windows ten PC
Very poor form
- pcmoanAspirant
I followed the instructions to swap in the drivers and Genie came up. I was able to log to both the router and parental controls, but within parental controls I cannot get beyond the status page. The problem is that the Genie application is tiny on my screen and changing screen resolutions does not solve the problem. I am running a brand new ASUS zenbook with Windows 10. I have a ASUS zenbook with windows 7 with comparable screen resolution that has run NetGenie for 3 years without incident, so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. I simply cannot access parental controls.
Very discouraged by how long windows 10 related issues have been affecting Genie users. Any help on this asap is most welcome.

I am SOOOOO glad I just dropped $329 on the Nighthawk AC3200 Router just to find Netgear Genie isn't compatible with windows 10, I've tried uninstalling it and installing the latest version and still everytime I open it it comes up with "Netgear Genie has stopped working" This is BS and really getting on my nerves, whats the point of having a router you can't even change the settings on, please fix this soon because I really want to play my game online and I can't port foreward until your stupid Genie app finally works for Windows 10
- DexterJBNETGEAR Moderator
Hi @LtScythe,
The NETGEAR Genie app/program is only one way for you to monitor and manage some settings of your device. You can always access the complete router settings through a browser by going to www.routerlogin.net, www.routerlogin.com or the router's IP address. You may refer to the links below for the steps.

I tried the other ways you suggested and all I am getting is webpage not available whis is starting to get old really fast, is there any other ways? It just amazes me that Windows 10 has been available as an upgrade for 6 plus months now and now the stand alone version is out and Netgear, one of the top companies to go to for routers isn't even compatible yet, and by the way in an earlier post I seen you had said the newest version of the app should be windows 10 compatible, you were wrong.
- LtScytheGuide
Alright so after some time fiddling around with it I was finally able to get an older version of genie to work with the Driver trick you showed in a previous post, but now its saying that my router is not supported, but when I check the list its on there. I have the Nighthawk AC3200 R8000, is there any way to get around this?
- BelmontJohnnyAspirant
Was there any response or resolution to this? Have the same issue.
- DexterJBNETGEAR Moderator
Hi @LtScythe,
I was able to do my own test and did not encounter any errors. Please make sure that the router is using the latest firmware. If it is, try performing a firmware re-flash then reset and reconfigure the device. You may find some helpful links below.
