Power Supply replacement compatibility
I do believe the power supply in my Infrant ReadyNAS RNV1-S2-0000 has died. I bought it in October 2006 from Newegg. The power supply died once before and [then] Infrant replaced it. Now it looks like it's my turn turn to replace it. I've spent a lot of time researching replacement power supplies and it looks like I can buy a replacement off-the-shelf for $100-$125. I'm fine with that.
I can buy a NETGEAR branded power supply, the RND4PSU1-10000S, from one of several vendors:

http://www.pcconnectionexpress.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=8182865
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000W3X480/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Before I go through the hassle of buying one of these units and trying it out, I want to check with the ReadyNAS community to confirm that this unit will work for me. Thanks in advance.

The NV and NV+ are pretty much the same. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/pre-sales/what_is_the_difference_between_the_readynas_nv_and_nv - PapaBear1ApprenticeYou have probably noticed that there is quite a difference between the appearance of your PSU and the new one. That has come about to direct more airflow directly over the components. The metal hood over the components is vented at both ends and it includes a plastic shield to prevent airflow in the bottom from bypassing the components.
- auntlisalAspirantHi, my faithful Infrant ReadyNAS has failed. Burning smell, followed by no power. I take it it is the power supply. Does anyone know what model number the power supply for a 1000s is? Is it same as 1100?
I think my serial number falls under affected units. 000DA20131F7. - ahofferAspirantMy new power supply arrived from Amazon. This will be the unit's third power supply. The original power supply failed while the unit was still under warranty. PSU #2 was the replacement from Infrant and is the newer style with the plastic shield. It shows no visible signs of failure; no leaking caps and no smells of burning insulation. It is a pity. I hope PSU #3 outlasts #1 and #2. At $120 a pop, I can't afford to keep doing this.
The good news is that my ReadyNAS is back online and running fine. And I want to compliment whomever designed the chassis. It is fantastic-- I enjoyed taking the thing apart and screwing it back together. I can't say that about anything else I own, even my Ducati. - PapaBear1Apprenticeahoffer - is your NV connected to a UPS?
I have an NV+ that is also in the serial number range, and has been running 24/7 for over 4 years now. The last time I completely disassembled the machine for cleaning (including removing the original PSU) I did notice some of the capacitor cans slightly bulged, but restored it to the chassis. It is connected to a UPS and that also serves as a surge protector. I did purchase a spare PSU, but it is still on the shelf for now. - ahofferAspirantI have a Infrant ReadyNAS RNV1-S2-0000, purchased 2006. I've been considering a UPS. The quality of the power on the circuit currently used by the ReadyNAS is poor-- very poor.
I would like to get a UPS, but I don't have much money to spend... I really only need something to clean up the power on the line and let the ReadyNAS shutdown gracefully when it loses power. I am in the US, so my power (on a good day) is about 120 V, 60 Hz.
What is the make/model of your UPS. How many watt-hours did you get? - PapaBear1ApprenticeI have two 4 year old Back-Ups NS1250 units. But, I am running my DirectTV receiver, DVD Player and TV. I had another unit in that service until it failed. I recently had to replace the batteries in this unit as well. It is primarily to maintain the settings on the devices when they are turned off. If they lose power, then I have to go through the setups again. Although my power is more reliable today, we are still subject to periodic short term outages (rural area).
My second unit has three NAS units plugged into it as well as a mid powered desktop PC and LCD monitor. With the desktop on, the unit indicates that it will last about 25 minutes. The BE450G listed on Newegg for $58 will run your NV+ for about 23 minutes on the battery. Connecting it to the NV+ and setting it to shut down automatically in case of power failure, will allow the unit to shut down normally on it's own in case of a power failure when you are not home. Higher powered units will allow longer runs, but will obviously cost more. - zappoAspirantI have three Infrant ReadyNas units with faulty PSU's I took them out and they all seem to have had the same fault, the capacitor next to a red coil had burnt out.
I was wondering if anyone has tackled a repair on these and whether they had the part numbers? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSo are the serial numbers of your units in this range: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10259
If so you might wish to contact NetGear tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) and see if they'll issue replacements. They have been known to issue replacements in some regions e.g. US. - tkevansApprenticeWould you know about replacement power supplies for the older ReadyNAS 600's?
