ReadyNAS 204; Check for Update Fails

Last couple of days, my ReadyNAS 204 (firmware 6.10.7) has begun failing the "check for update" function.  Returns "60010100060 Communications Error.  Check your internet connection, DNS settings, or proxy settings."

Yet, the thing is on the network and otherwise functioning properly--antivirus updates are arriving (last one was this morning).  Logging in to an interatctive shell to the console, I can ping the outside world:

# ping google.com
PING google.com (142.250.81.238): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 142.250.81.238: seq=0 ttl=118 time=27.848 ms
64 bytes from 142.250.81.238: seq=1 ttl=118 time=25.793 ms
64 bytes from 142.250.81.238: seq=2 ttl=118 time=18.798 ms

netstat shows what it should show (router is 192.168.252.5):

# netstat -rn

I'm seeing the same error, so it must an issue on Netgear's end.

    Thanks for the ping StephenB!

    Hi tkevans,

Could you enable Secure Diagnostics mode on the NAS and PM me the 5-digit port number?

  • This problem has now disappeared for me.  Nothing from NetGear, but my 'check-for-update' is now working properly with no error messages. Thanks.

Not sure what you mean by that, since they did post here saying that they were working on it, and then followed up saying it was fixed.

Nothing posted in this thread.  Perhaps somewhere else? At any rate, all's well that ends well.

  • Same problem, but firmware 6.10.6.

Actually a different problem, since the original one was caused by an issue on Netgear's end that caused all check-for-updates to fail on all ReadyNAS.  FWIW, it is working on born an RN102 and an RN526 that I checked.

Have you confirmed that the problem NAS can reach the internet?
