ReadyNas Duo and Windows 7 Problem
I have just purchased a new laptop, windows 7 64bit. My previous laptop was running XP and everything was fine. I now have problems using the explorer on the shares on the NAS. I am able to see the top level of shares, eg media and my own private share, but I am unable to enter any folders. I have tried this over wireless and connected via ethernet. I have changed the MTU setting on the laptop to no effect. I have desktop XP machine wired to the NAS and everything is okay. Can anybody suggest the next thing for me to try.

- PapaBear1ApprenticeA couple of questions -
1. Do you have a user id and password required to log onto your laptop?
2. When you set up the network on your laptop, did you select, home, work or public?
3. Do you have any passwords required on your ReadyNAS?
FWIW - I connect to my 3 ReadyNAS units from two desktops and a laptop all running Win7 HP 64bit. - maf11AspirantI don't use a userId/password login for the laptop. The NAS still knows which is my private user area instead of the other private areas. All my devices are in the same workgroup, HOME. There are no passwords for the NAS appart from the admin account.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeSorry it has taken me 24 hours to get back to you, but I had some other tasks to do yesterday. I took my latest build, installed a scratch drive and performed a new install of Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. After the installation was complete and the motherboard drivers were updated, I went through the network setup. (Wired connection, drivers needed) In the screen asking which type of network (Home, Work or Public), I chose Home (it will default to Public if you are not careful), and then renamed the work group to MSHOME (which it has been since it was set up under XP).
I then opened Windows Explorer, went down to where the network devices were listed and was able to navigate to all of my files. At the time I did this, the modem was off, and no anti-virus, anti-spyware applications nor third party firewalls were installed. The Win 7 firewall setting was at default. I am attaching a snip of the screen showing the Windows Explorer window. - maf11AspirantHi PapaBear,
I get a similar view as shown in your screenshot, I have my private area and a medai share. I am able to enter either share and am shown the folders in that share. The problem comes attempting to enter a folder that contains files, after x minutes explorer fails to enter the folder and therefore doesn't display the folder contents.
I have subversion installed on the NAS I also have my iTunes library on the NAS. Using the explorer in both iTunes and eclipse I am able to navigate the folders on the NAS correctly.
I have just tried the Windows explorer again, and I am able to navigate the NAS folders as expected. This is the first time in three weeks I have been able to do it. I shall monitor this over the next few days. Something has changed or is different to suddenly have explorer working. - maf11AspirantI've being thinking about the changes that have occurred inthe past couple of days to enable my laptop to now access the folders on the NAS drive. There are two things, firstly, I have updated the firmware on my ReadyNAS to 4.1.8. I can't imagine that had the effect. The other thing, is that I have only had my laptop for three weeks and it can pre-installed with Mcafee Internet Security. I removed this a couple of days ago and replaced it with AVG and ZoneAlarm. Since then I have been able to access the NAS as expected.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeI should have asked what "Anti-Malware Suite" you were running. Both McAfee and Norton have bad reputations for taking over PC's and not allowing some connections. I used AVG previously and have had no problems with it, although my machines currently have Avast!. I also have SuperAntiSpyware for spyware protection (Pro version) and periodically run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as well. (You can only have one active Anti-Spyware at a time or they will conflict).
