SABnzbd Completed downloads file permissions
I recently purchased a ReadyNAS Duo to replace my QNAP TS-201. I have just about managed to get the hang of how permissions work. The only major issue I currently have is with SABnzbd. The add-on itself seems to be working fine. The problem is with the completed download. These seem to be save as follows
drwxr-xr-x 2 admin admin 16384 Apr 21 21:35 SomeFile
I have setup SABnzbd to use a share that should be writeable to everyone so would like the completed downloads be fully accessible to all. Any help would be most appreciated.

- WhoCares_MentorIn the config section of SABnzbd select the "Folders" tab. Set the option "Permissions for completed downloads" to "777" (without the quotes).
-Stefan - mudgetheotterAspirantThanks. I new there had to be simple answer :)
- UberrabbitAspirantThanks!
I had the same problem to, thought it was my own problem because I set it to other dir's and was setting up all kind of permissions solutions I found on the board aswell.
Maybe its a good idea to put it in the tutorial part maybe more people get the problem. - dcl_AspirantYes, would be a good idea to add to the tutorial. Because it's confusing (for me, dummy) that the settings of sabnzbd overrule the setting of the share (media= read/write for all).
I still have to log on as admin to delete a file though - the "777" permission only helps to be able to read the file as user. - WhoCares_Mentor

Actually it is mentioned, although just in a single sentence.dcl! wrote: Because it's confusing (for me, dummy) that the settings of sabnzbd overrule the setting of the share (media= read/write for all).
It doesn't. The thing is that by setting the Share access, you simply allow one/some/all users to do something. The users then can decide to just use a subset of what you were initially allowing. So if a share is shared to be r/w for everyone, a user can still create a file with readonly access. That's nothing special but just the way access permissions on Unix like systems work - and actually the same is true for Windows, too.dcl! wrote: I still have to log on as admin to delete a file though - the "777" permission only helps to be able to read the file as user.
That's rather strange, I suggest you check your media share's settings again. There should be an Advanced Option to allow other users than the owner to remove files.
-Stefan - slofloAspirantI think I am having the same issue, after installation of Sabnzbd and before downloading I set the complete folder to /c/media/Downloads/Complete with the permisssion 777.
From Windows I can browse all the content of my media folder except the Downloads folder where it is telling me I do not have rights. How can I solve this?
I set my media share to HTTP/S access, and when I access my share with my admin account on my NASIP/share I can browse down to Downloads/Complete but cannot see the downloaded files... - WhoCares_MentorHow did you create the Downloads folder in the /c/media share directory and what are the permission settings of that directory? This sounds like the directory was created either manually or at least using some permission settings that lead to the effect you describe.
-Stefan - slofloAspirantWell the /c/media was created by the readynas Installation and the Downloads/Complete was created by myself in sabnzbd configuration folder settings.
When I look at the c/media share settings it is shared in CIFS AFP and HTTPS in Default Access Read/Write.
In the Advanced Share options:
Share folder owner: nobody
Share folder group: nogroup
Share folder owner rights: read/write (gray and unchangeable)
Share folder group rights: read/write
Share folder everyone rights: read/write
And the following two options de-activated:
Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems.
Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files.
In the edit of my previous message i added i could acccess in HTTP/S "with my admin account on my NASIP/share I can browse down to Downloads/Complete but cannot see the downloaded files..." - WhoCares_MentorWhen you created the Downloads/Complete folder, what did you enter in the "Permissions for completed downloads" box? You should enter 777 there otherwise the files/directories will only be visible to the "owner" who created the stuff which in this case would be the "admin" user. This is consistent with the additions you made to your initial post. What you can try to do is on the Share's Advanced options activate the "Set ownership and permissions for existing files and folders" and click Apply. This will result in the already existing files and directories being remapped so that all users can access the files. You can also check the second setting because all files downloaded by SABnzbd by default are owned by the user "admin" and most likely you don't want to access the files using this account.
-Stefan - slofloAspirantYes I had set 777 when I created the Downloads/Complete folder.
I activated the following option:
Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems.
As a result I can browse the folder, I tested with a new download and I can access it. :D
Unfortunatly the files I downloaded previously at this exact same spot are not visible... when I check in sabnzbd, the download is completed and the path is the one I am looking into... is there a way to get rid of the file throught sabnzbd?
