Transmission installation problem
Hi,
I've got a Netgear Ultra 2 NAS, and am trying to install Transmission BitTorrent client. However earlier on when i tried it had a "Failed installation" for some reason. Nothing appeared in the "Installed Add-ons" tab. So i tried to install it again, then i get the error message "Installation of this add-on conflicts with an existing service. Aborting installation." after uploading the .bin file and clicking "Install". I tried with both the latest stable release, and the latest beta release, both gives the same error. So i tried to restore the NAS to factory defaults, but it did not fix the error.
Please help.
Regards, KgOlve.
Also, sorry if this was the wrong section to post this, did not see a "Bug Reports" section.

- KgOlveAspirantAlright, i entered the two command lines separately, but i got no confirmation of any kind, am i supposed to get one? If not then i'll move on to trying to reinstall transmission.
Also, when i first installed transmission (I had it installed once first before i uninstalled it and tried installing it again when the problems started occur) i had a hard time installing it and starting it. The loading indicator just kept loading for hours without anything happening, both when trying to install it and start it. Due to various happenings/coincidences it eventually installed and eventually started. Other add-ons i've tried install, start, and stop almost instantly, so it seems very odd. - WhoCares_Mentor

No. That's Linux, after all. So there's no chatty "Yes? No? Maybe? Maybe not?" requesters all over the place :-DKgOlve wrote: If not then i'll move on to trying to reinstall transmission.
Go, do that ;)KgOlve wrote: Also, when i first installed transmission (I had it installed once first before i uninstalled it and tried installing it again when the problems started occur) i had a hard time installing it and starting it. Sorry, can't help you there for I don't know the internal workings of that add-on.

Nope.
I installed the add-on now, and it works, thank you very much for your help, it was greatly appreciated.
Now that i got bittorrent working, perhaps my next step will be to make myself a website hosted on the nas  - KgOlveAspirantHi again,
I'm sorry, but i stumbled upon yet another problem. Transmission doesn't download torrents properly, it gives me some error after pausing a torrent saying "Error: No data found! Ensure your drives are connected or use "Set Location", making it unable to resume. To re-download, remove the torrent and re-add it.". However, after a quick forum search, i found what seems like a solution, however .. I need some help putting the solution into works. Here's the post with the suggested solution: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=60741&p=340516&hilit=set+locations&sid=666a5824c8f32ef4613ebe4dbe48e324#p352039
Now i hit brick wall even from step 3; How do i open a directory in SSH? Just typing in "/etc/frontview/addons/bin/TRANSMISSION" doesn't do anything aside from SSH telling me this is a dorectory unfortunately. - WhoCares_MentorWell, the command given in step 3 should actually read
cd /etc/frontview/addons/bin/TRANSMISSION
but the real thing is that afterwards you'll need to use a Linux text editor which I fear is not a thing to talk you through by forum posts. Especially so since there are some other things to be considered like the mentioned ownerships and permissions of files and folders.
-Stefan - KgOlveAspirantHmm. Is it really no way for me to get this working then?
If you're willing to help guide me through this with other means than forum posts, im available through both MSN, Skype, and IRC. - KgOlveAspirantWell, since i absolutely need bittorrent, and this seems to be the only useable bittorrent add-on, since others i have to buy through paypal, which i can't because paypal froze my account, I'll just have to download this vi text editor and try to read up on some linux commands, and see if i can manage to get things done according to that rather unclear guide i found.
Thank you very much for all help thus far. - WhoCares_Mentorvi is already installed on the ReadyNAS.
-Stefan - KgOlveAspirantYes, i understood that, as a "friend" of mine suggested ways to edit something. He first suggested nano, and than vim, and then vi. What im unclear on though, is part 4 where he says "with your own share rights". Does he mean to replace the "nobody:nogroup" instances with for instance "eric:users" if "Eric" is a user account i created in the FrontView of the nas under Security-> User and group accounts?
- WhoCares_MentorIt means to use the ownership settings of the particular share you want Transmission to save files to. Which may be your user account or something completely different, depending on how the share was created. Easiest way to find out would be to do a "ls -al /c" and look for the settings of the share's directory.
That said I don't think the method outlined in the post you're referring to is the best way to go. Rather than changing the user/group Transmission is running under I'd go for changing the share's settings instead for this can be done through Frontview and doesn't involve any command line acrobatics.
