Copying between volumes
Hi,
Is there any faster way to copy between two shares? Copying over CISF/Windows between network drives is taking very long.
My ReadyNAS has got RAIDator 4.1.6.
Thanks.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you were moving I'd suggest logging in as admin. Open \\ip.address.of.nas\c and move files within there. As for copying, it's not so simple. Perhaps try a file manager add-on: http://www.readynas.com/?cat=65.
Btw do you know how to use Linux shell commands? If so there's another option to consider.
Also note there's a difference between volumes and shares, so your thread title is a bit misleading. - redtomatoAspirantI'm sure I omitted some important information. I've got ReadyNAS Duo, not Pro.
And I want to move between shares, which are on different volumes.
1> With ReadyNAS' ip address, browser takes me to share listing. And there are options for cut/copy/paste, but only inside a share. Not between two shares.
2> I tries PHP NAvigator and Xplorer. But, they seem to be only for web server files, not for data files.
3> I'm comfortable with Linux shell, if you could point me to good starting point.
Thanks for your help. - LichonAspirantAccessing a ReadyNAS is NOT model dependent.
I strongly suggest you start with mounting "\\NAS\c" (only admin login works) and use your connection protocol (CIFS,NFS,AFP) to move files & folders around between shares.
On windows you are required to unmount all "\\NAS\<share>" mounts first.
That WILL work, but if you want direct linux console access then you need to install the SSH-addon. Remember to read the warning! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou can use the EnableRootSSH add-on but pay heed to the warning:
NetGear wrote:
With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.
Username is 'root' and password will initially be set to be the same as your admin password.
You can login using PuTTy on Windows.
Alternative you can use the terminal on Mac OS X or Linux:
ssh root@ip.address.of.nas
Then use the mv, cp commands etc. - redtomatoAspirant

When I try to mount using commandnet use N: \\192.168.10.110\c /user:admin
in Windows Command, I'm getting "System error 5 has occured."
"Access is denied."
I'm pretty much sure, I'm entering right password.
Any idea? - if they are on different volumes (/c and /d) then there is no fast/easy way to copy other ssh and copy using linux command line.
- GrievousAspirantIf you want to move a lot of data, but only need to do it on rare occasion, I actually suggest using backup jobs. This way you won't have to deal with the command line, and you can avoid having a client PC tied up waiting for a file transfer to finish. Set your source as the original share/folder, and then the destination as the newshare/folder.

Does this mean backup now supports move instead of copy ?Grievous wrote: If you want to move a lot of data, but only need to do it on rare occasion, I actually suggest using backup jobs. <snip>. Set your source as the original share/folder, and then the destination as the newshare/folder.
If not, then space might be an issue as the job copies the content meaning you require twice as much space. - GrievousAspirant

No, I said to use the backup so you don't need to login to the ReadyNAS via SSH or leave a client PC occupied running the copy between shares. - Skaven252AspirantHello all. I've just run to the same problem: I have 2 terabytes of data I would like to move to a new, freshly created share, but doing it over Windows is taking ages. I noticed, though, that moving within a share is quite quick, even over Windows. Is it just a technical restriction than moving between shares is slow, or is there a faster way?
I ran into n44b issues when trying to log in as an admin, or installing a pHp-based file manager. I installed Super-poussin's PHP add-on and AjaXPlorer, and they installed properly on my NV+ (and then I rebooted it), but when I click the "Open XPLORER File Manager" button in my ReadyNAS FrontView, all I get is a blank window and a "download" of some dummy file. (what did I do wrong?)
Thanks!
