ReadyNAS 102 Squeezebox Touch connection issue
Hi all, new here so please be nice :D
Ok so I've bought myself a Squuezebox Touch and a ReadyNAS 102 in which I installed 2 WD RED 3TB disks.
The goal is to be able to stream all my music files from the RN102 through the Squeezebox Touch.
I share a wireless connection with the neighbours, to which my Squeezebox and laptop both connect.
I installed LMS 7.7.3 on the RN102 using the GUI, launched it and it scanned all my music files I had transferred to the 102.
So now I have connected my RN102 to my Squeezebox with an ethernet cable and I want to acces my music on the RN102, but how do I do that?
I tried Settings>advanced>networking>connect to ethernet, first it wouldn't connect, then I tried connecting manually by inputting the IP adress of the RN102.
So now my squeezebox does see the NAS, but when I now go to "my music" in the main menu on the SB, it prompts me to "switch to a different library, which will stop playback" but when I try to do so, it still isn't able to connect to the NAS. :?
I was under the impression that the RN102 was compatible with the SBT, am I missing something? Have I overlooked something? I would imagine I would still need to provide my admin login information to acces the NAS through the SBT?
Are there people out there who succesfully connected their SBT with their RN102? Any info or direction would be tremendously helpful, thank you. :D
Thanks a bunch in advance and kindest regards,

- LaszloFolgertsAspirantThe top one is the one of the NAS
- vandermerweMasterOk, what are the network settings of the squeezbox?
- LaszloFolgertsAspirantsorry for the late reply but I'm not quite sure what you mean. The settings above are used to log onto the ethernet network, i.e. to connect with the RN102
Those are the same settings I have to enter everytime I want to switch from wifi to ethernet. One would think there should be a way to store those settings, just like with the wifi...
Could you tell me where I can find the settings you are referring to?
thanks in advance - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
No, that's not what they are. The subnet mask, gateway address, and DNS server are configuration settings for your network, and not part of a log on. Normally you would not be entering them along with the RN102's local IP address. Instead you'd be entering the local IP address of the squeezebox - which should be a different address from the wifi IP address.LaszloFolgerts wrote: The settings above are used to log onto the ethernet network...
When you say "switch from wifi to ethernet", are you meaning that the squeeze has both, and both are always connected? Or are you saying something else?
Also, are the subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server the same for the wifi network?
I don't own a squeezebox touch, but something is a bit muddled here. Do you have a link to the squeezebox manual? - LaszloFolgertsAspirantMy Squeezebox has both wifi and ethernet capabilities. It can connect with either one but not both at the same time.
I use wifi for internet radio and I use ethernet to connect with my RN102 running LMS 7.8.0 to access my music.
You were right about the IP-adress! It's the one of the Squeezebox, not the RN102 (I don't know why I thought that, maybe because one has an 9 at the end and the another a 6 an I mixed them up)
I have the Sqeezebox connected to the RN102 through a TP-Link TL-GS105 5-port gigabit switch. Should I have gotten a router instead?
I looked into the manual but it directs me to the support page but I can't find much info about my particular set-up
I'm not quite sure if my RN102 has a static IP-adress. Is there a way to check and/or change that in the GUI or otherwise? I'm in System>settings on the GUI but can't find anything that points to that direction.
Thanks in advance,
Laszlo - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs the gigabit switch connected to your wifi router? If not, it should be.
On the RN102, click on "network", then on the picture of the adapter. That will bring up settings.
Then click on TCP/IP. That will show the current address and subnet, and will say "using DHCP" if the system is using DHCP, otherwise it will say "Static". The DNS tab will have the DNS server, which sometimes is the same as the router IP.
Generally you are better off using DHCP, and not static addresses. Most newer routers let you "reserve" addresses, so they will always assign the same address. That gives you the advantages of DHCP and the advantages of static addresses both. - LaszloFolgertsAspirantOk, so I went to Network> on the RN102 GUI and clicked on the image of the little network board and lo and behold! I got another "settings" tab pop up underneath. (who would have known, right?)
So I clicked on that, went to the TCP/IP tab and changed the "Configure IPv4" value from "Use DHCP" to "Static." I couldn't change IPv6 value because I had to define a router or something so I left it... then I hit "apply" and saved.
Then I turned everything off, both the SB and the RN102. First i turned the SB back on and connected to Mysqueezebox.com through wifi and selected an internet radio stream. No problems there...
Then I turned the RN102 back on and went to "my music" on the SB and it connected to the NAS right away without me having to enter any values again and I could instantly access my music.
We'll see how this goes but for now it seems like the issue is fixed... I'll come back to it later if anything changes (or not).
Does anyone see a problem with me leaving the IPv6 on "Use DHCP" when the IPv4 is set to "Static" on the RN102?
Thanks anyway guys, for all your responses. You've been of tremendous help.
Laszlo - LaszloFolgertsAspirant@StephenB: I see you just beat me to it!
- vandermerweMasterOk so you understand now. I have Squeezeboxes and I've tested switching between wifi and ethernet access. Each time you change you will need to go through the network settings, although they will have been retained from your previous setup.
There isn't a way to just select ethernet and go straight to music if you have been on wifi and vice versa. - LaszloFolgertsAspirantOk, it's still not working. When I wanted to connect with my NAS last time, I had to enter IP-adress, subnet mask, etc manually again... :?
Is there a way to get around this? I share a wireless connection with the neighbours, but the router is in their room so I won't be able to connect any cables there.
What if I get a wifi/gigabit router? Say I connect the SB and the NAS to my own router via LAN, will I then be able to connect my SB with the NAS and my neighbour's wifi on the same network through my own router? Have my own little sub-network, as it were? :D
I went to a computer store and the guy there recommended getting a wifi range extender/gigabit switch instead because he said the two routers will just interfere with each other. :?
Can anyone confirm if either one of these set-ups will or won't work?
Thanks a whole bunch in advance, guys...
Laszlo
