Setup Grayed out/Installation Fail
I'm baffled by my new ReadyNAS. Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I have
- ReadyNas DUO plugged into the first port on my
- Cisco WRT400N Wireless Router
- OSX Lion with the firewall turned off
- a 2TB external HD which I am going to use instead of internal disks
- RAIDar 4.32
- RAIDar usually sees the ReadyNAS, but when it is picked up, I cannot select the "Setup" button as it is grayed out.
- I have wiped it and reset the firmware multiple times
- I can see NETGEAR as a wireless "network"
- I cannot get to http://192.168.168.168/admin
What can I/should I do? What additional information can I provide/look for to solve this?
Thank you.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYour NAS is not picking up an IP address.
I presume your router hands out IP addresses? If so, go into your router's config and add a reserved IP address for your ReadyNAS. You'll need to look at the MAC address shown in RAIDar so you can specify this where appropriate. Once you've applied your changes you may need to reboot your router for them to take effect. You may also need to unplug the ethernet cable from the ReadyNAS and then reconnect it again for it to pickup the new IP. - jimduncan1Aspirantmdgm -
Thank you so much for the reply.
My router is running DHCP. If I make this change, will it affect other devices' ability to get IPs?
Thank you. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredNo. Just give the ReadyNAS an IP address that is not assigned to one of your other devices. Just say your client PC has the IP address 192.168.0.20 you could give the ReadyNAS a memorable IP address 192.168.0.100. The first three numbers must be the same as the other devices on your network, but the last number must be different (as in the example I just gave).
- jimduncan1AspirantThanks so much.
I tried this and got the error: "The MAC address is incorrect" ... (after having checked and trying the MAC address 4 times)
So I reset the ReadyNAS again, and it didn't show up in RAIDar this time.
Can I plug it in to my mac directly? - jimduncan1AspirantUpdate: I called Support and they corrected my misinformation. I thought I could run this disk-less with a 2TB external HD. Apparently I need an internal HD.
Thanks, and I'll try tomorrow ... - yea, I mis-read your first post thinking you were going to use the 2tb external drive inside.
you definately need at least 1 drive in the internal bay, you can use any old unused sata drive (2tb or less), just be sure you don't have any needed data on it since it will get erased when you insert into the nas bay.
Once your up on an internal drive, you can setup/configure the nas and attach your external drive to one of the usb ports.
