BUG REPORT: Speed Test Information Home Screen Wrong, Speed Test on Router QoS, Localisation, (c)...
Nightawk App, v2.3.1.568
Google Pixel 2, Andoroid 9, up2date
Management Summary: Careless design, poor programming, lack of QA.
Issue A: On the Nighthawk App "Home" view, the (new added) Internet Speed data shown is somewhere from the history, not reflecting the latest measurements. It appears to show the first instead of the last measurement (here from 20-FEB-2019):
Issue B: The App does still not honor the device configured Date and Time formats - with all due repect for Mr. Trump & Co. for setting some unique standards - the rest of the world does not use these odd notations for dates and time. Note: This device is configured for English (US) - so it shows today "April 16, 2019" - a clear, unique, non-confusing date.
Issue C: The Speed Test run on the router Genie UI - relevant for QoS - is not reflected in the App, nor are the QoS settings accessible. Note: Readable date, 24h clock on the Web UI (wow!):
Issue 😧 Copyright year not updated ... one day programmers learn to read the effective year, fall back the build date of the App (in case the year is in the past)

Issue E: Device Name Configured Not Reflected in App - the App does continue to show a hard coded model number instead. In this example, the device name is R9000-1:

Issue F: Attached Device List massive Differences from the Web UI - here 4 vs. 9:
R9000, v1.0.4.28:
Issue G: Despite any promises, no Network Map at all (of course, we expect a FULL network map with ALL (see above...) Attached Devices (not just router and some mesh extenders):

Issue H: admin (local device) password restrictions - to strict. Password which are working for the Genie Web login, wich used to work in the Genie App, no longer work in the Nigthhawk App, like these ( - _ # ? ....). Login does simply fail, no real user guidance.
Issue I: [My]Netgear Account login - possible password limitations. We see more and more reports, but lack of details for now. The Nighthawk App just hangs, and does not continue from the SSO Login.

Re: BUG REPORT: Speed Test Information Home Screen Wrong, Speed Test on Router QoS, Localisation, (c
Issue L: Device Types on the Nightawk App vs. router (R9000, 1.0.4.28 here)
How should this EVER work and show the same information on the router Web UI and the crApp?
And (of course), no modern IoT and Smart Devices Icons at all...
@Christian_R @ChristineT ... bummer ... for how long do I report this? ZERO design - ZERO standardisation - blunt failure. How difficult can it be to get the basics right? And of course on _all_ supported routers. Once this is done, NTGR might consider to shut down the Genie app ... but not before.

Issue M: Live Parental Control (LPR) Absent - Promoted at CES2019, promoted in the App Stores - but not implemented, ot available.
Also disputed here -> https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-App/New-Nighthawk-App-where-are-the-parental-controls/m-p...
And no Netgear - the using the Web UI or opendns.netgear.com isn't an option.

Issue N: Wireless Devices showns as Wired/Ethernet
At least the router does show the same - so thie is (again) a router issue.
Issue O: Disconnected Devices are not Removed
The Google Pixel 2 shown above is deassociated and on a different network for a longer time.
@Christian_R @ChristineT .. more food for the meetings with the **** departement.

Issue P: Different and incomplete information returned, lack of Connection Type (5G/2.4G/wired) with some routers. The SSID the WLAN client is connected to is completely missing - for those running different SSIDs, too.

Thank you @ChristineT - convinced there is more to come, os here we go:
Issue Q: Nighthawk App (typically iOS) does not show the On/Off controls to enable/disable devices (typically R8000 and/or R8000P router).

Re: BUG REPORT: Speed Test Information Home Screen Wrong, Speed Test on Router QoS, Localisation, (c
Issue R: No Bypass Login Capability for Live Parental Controls
Using desktop Genie only addresses setting the parental control on the local network - the bypass login capability allows the parental level to be controlled when the portable device is remote on a different network or a mobile phone connection. Very frustrating that this cannot be done any more.

Re: BUG REPORT: Speed Test Information Home Screen Wrong, Speed Test on Router QoS, Localisation, (c
Issue T: ReadySHARE access feature with simple up- and download on a tabbed side-by-side Local and ReadySHARE Lost on the Nighthawk App
Thank you @Drew-Z for the additional issue - must have missed that one. Do I qualify as a product manager with Netgear now, too 8-) ?
@Drew-Z wrote:
I updated the firmware in my R7000/AC1900 router and the genie app lost its ability to communicate with my router. And now I have lost the ability to access my readyshare USB drive hooked to my router via my Android phone. The Nighthawk app doesn't have the feature for readyshare drive access.
Wow Netgear, yet another thing destroyed! While the most obvious idea would be to promote the ReadyCLOUD App, the simple up- and download capability with the side-by-side folders (in two tabs) for local and remote is not available. @Christian_R more qualified complaints here (ref. both the Nighthawk App as well as for the ReadyCLOUD App!).

Issue U: Netgear does fail again to make things clear. Why on earth don't they use the term "Circle" or "Circle by Disney" also on the App? No, they replace it (apparently) by a tile named "Parental Control" and confuse both the Live Parental Control (OpenDNS based) as in place on many Netgear routers.

Thank you @AdrianLab for the report - sorry for being late replicating it to this list....
@Christian_R we have almost reached A..Z and ZERO feedback from the Netgear CHP g*****e departmement. Instead, we find the community flooded with marketing stuff nobody want to see here. We need fixes and solutions - in time.

Issue Z: The Nighthawk App does refuse to connect to a supported Nighthawk device if it's operating in Access Point mode.
We're through the alphabet now. And Netgear does hide. It's just ridiculous. @Christian_R

Re: Just.. Wow..
Issue AA: While Remote Management, changing Wireless Mode (e.g. Smart Connect Off, Smart Connect on), we're sent to a waiting loop for some 70+ seconds, "Searching for Router".
What might make some sense on the local router WLAN, with the remote access there is no reason for this delay and wait - as the connectivity goes over the Internet, and not the local Wireless connection.
@Christian_R can we get updates for all the issues posted here please?

Issue AB: Nighthawk cannot show wired connected device (R6400)
R6400 firmware: 1.0.1.46
Nighthawk version 2.3.6.617
In my fomer app , Nergear Genie allows me to reach the wired + connected device, such as my television. I can disable the connectivity between that tv and the router.
In the forced update to nighthawk , it does only show wifi connected device.

Thank you Christine!
We have almost four months past since the confirmation for a review. All we have got since are few minor enhancements (some even to the bad side), the WiFi Analyzer integrated, ...the effective issues are still not resolved. Not even "basic" functionality like the App honoring mobile preferences set, lik bright or dark user preference (it's still a mix, the Speedtest graph is bright for example), neither date nor time formats follow, and there continue to be this non-existing units like Mbps. These are Mb/s or Mbit/s as per the common standards.
The R9000/R8900 list of device types is neither updated to the enhanced set of newer devices, nor does it fit to the Device types/icons shown on the App.
And the controls for LPC have still not returned for the routers not supporting Circle - a "feature" most of us are not interested in at all for many reasons btw. - to the supposedly leading edge Nighthawk 802.11ac routers like the R9000. To make it even worse, the KB does list the R9000 as supporting Circle - utter nonsense. Not supporting LPC on the App is as illegal and not acceptable as the non-announced removal of the DLNA Media Server from the R7000.
Many if not all Netgear routers go belly up (along with the App) when it comes to handling a certain amount of Attached Devices, behaviour and problem varies if the Access Control is enabled or not.
Leading edge routers like the R9000 set the time wrong on startup - despite correct time zone and DST settings. And last but not least there are sill no firmware updates available including valid (not expired) certificates for the https access. Would not wonder if these issues would affect interoperability issues with the Nighthawk App, too.
Time to finalize the paperwork your lawyers will receive in Switzerland, in the EU, in the UK, in Canada, in Australia, and in the States from the courts soon. We have given Netgear enough detailed information and time to get all the problems addressed.
Regards,
-Kurt.

Re: BUG REPORT: Speed Test Information Home Screen Wrong, Speed Test on Router QoS, Localisation, (c
Haven't updated this thread for a while...
- Since some 1.0.5.8 ReadyShare (SAMBA SMB access) does no longer work with authentication
- Self-signed certificates (OpenVPN) can be generated without a date/time setting, so these will show up as expired in 1989.
- Plex does sometimes not start after crashes or power failures, zero troubleshooting support in the Web UI
- ...
@Christian_R time to rush this complete thread to engineering - no idea what they are waiting for. Once fixed, the same code fixes can be ported to other Nighthawk router builds, what will fix the many similar issues.
