I’m posting this to document a serious defect in the Orbi 770 series and to express growing frustration after months of dealing with it. I have an Orbi 770 system (RBE770 satellites, firmware V10.5.20.3). One or both satellites will randomly stop broadcasting on all bands (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz) while continuing to report a perfectly healthy status everywhere Netgear tells you to look. From the router UI: Satellites show “Good” Backhaul (wired or wireless — tested both) remains connected No warnings, alerts, or errors From the Orbi mobile app: Satellites show online and healthy No indication of any issue From the satellite’s own web UI (when you log in directly): The page proudly states “Your WiFi Orbi Satellite connection is up and running” However, ALL radios (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz) are disabled This is incredibly misleading. Yes, the satellite is powered on — but it is not functioning as a WiFi access point. The management interface claims everything is fine while the radios are effectively dead. The only way to discover this is by: Noticing degraded WiFi performance, and Manually logging into the satellite’s local web UI to confirm the radios are disabled There is no notification, no alert, and no exposed log entry that explains why this happens. Impact When this occurs: Clients drop or cling to distant APs Overall network performance degrades The mesh effectively collapses silently The only workaround is rebooting the affected satellite(s). This restores service temporarily, but the issue reoccurs — often once or twice per week. For a system in this price range, that is unacceptable. Why “Interference” Is Not a Valid Answer Even if this were RF-related (which I doubt), the platform provides no visibility and no control: No RSSI / dBm metrics No interference indicators No spectrum analysis No transmit power control No actionable RF diagnostics If satellites were “too close” (they aren’t, they're more than 40 feet away from each other), I still have no way to tune or mitigate overlap. The system simply disables itself and leaves the user guessing. Additional Context Firmware updates have not resolved this Hardware has been RMA’d with no improvement Wired vs wireless backhaul makes no difference My neighbor’s Orbi 970 series exhibits the same behavior All bands fail simultaneously, pointing to a firmware or radio state failure, not roaming behavior Conclusion This appears to be a fundamental firmware defect where the radio subsystem fails while every management interface (router UI, satellite UI, mobile app) continues to report “healthy” and “up and running.” For a premium mesh product, silently disabling radios with no alert, no diagnostics, and no explanation is unacceptable. If Netgear is aware of this issue, it needs to be acknowledged. If logs exist, they need to be exposed. If engineering is investigating, customers deserve transparency. Right now, this product behaves like an expensive beta.806Views0likes20CommentsNew - RBE770 / RBE771 Firmware Version 10.5.20.10 Released
Release Date: January 28, 2026 Bug Fixes: Resolved security vulnerabilities Resolved P2 security vulnerabilities in accordance with Security Team requirements Implemented IPv6 automatic detection and configuration Download Link: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbe772/#download RELEASE NOTES links are not working on the download site. Made NG support aware of this. Hopefully fixed soon. Release not information is with in the .zip files for this version of FW. 1/30/2026: Links have been fixed. Firmware Update Instructions: To update your router’s firmware, follow the instructions in your router’s user manual. To view your router’s user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBE771.aspx#docs IF MANUALLY UPDATING THE SYSTEM: Be sure to update the RBS FIRST, then the RBR lastly. Please navigate to the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to update your RBR871/RBS870: Proceedure to Manually Firmware Update Orbi and Nighthawk Mesh systems I HIGHLY recommend after the FW is loaded on the system and it's back to ready, power OFF all Orbi units and the ISP modem/ONT for 1 minute. Then back ON with the ISP modem/ONT first, then RBR then RBS. NOTE: Orbi app or the routers web page may not report seeing new FW updates. NG may not push this to there auto update services immediately and may activate the newer FW update being seen on there auto update services at a later time. User will have the choice to manually update if you want too. FW UPDATE ALL Feature: If there is a FW updated seen on the RBRs web page and all RBS are online and connected with GOOD STATUS, you can select the UPDATE ALL button option to have the RBR update the RBS and RBR. Update All button is seen on the RBRs Firmware Update WEB page on the Check for Updates FW section of the page. Once FW has been checked for an update and all devices show the FW update is available, select the UPDATE ALL button. Give 5 minutes for the process to take place. Recommend powering OFF the Orbi system for 1 minute then back ON with the RBR first then RBS after Update All completes. Give 5-10 minutes for system to fully come to ready. NOTE: If continued problems are seen after a FW update, it's recommended to try a factory reset and setup from scratch with out loading any saved configurations from backup files. Use the ERASE button on the routers web page to factory reset the router: This sends a Factory Reset command to any and all connected RBS as well: Procedure for Factory Reset of RBE770 series systems use ERASE Button This article applies to: WiFi 7 (4) RBE770 RBE771 RBE772 RBE773 Let us know how it works for you...Please make a new post regarding any problems your seeing in the Orbi BE support forums. Orbi WiFi 7 (BE) Mesh Systems | NETGEAR Communities262Views0likes0CommentsThis frustrating intermittent issue.
We have observed that Orbi continuously reassigns IP addresses to certain devices, which causes those devices to experience frequent and intermittent Wi-Fi disconnections. This issue has been present for a long period of time and also affects the RBE97X series, indicating that it is not limited to a single model. At this point, we would like to understand when a permanent fix is expected. This issue has already impacted multiple customers, and despite our continued efforts to troubleshoot and explain, the situation has become increasingly difficult to manage. As a distributor, we are under significant pressure, and it is becoming very challenging to maintain customer confidence without a clear resolution timeline or roadmap from NETGEAR. We sincerely request this issue to be prioritized and would appreciate any update, workaround, or estimated timeline for resolution. model:RBE773 FW:v10.5.20.7292Views0likes4CommentsOrbi 770 keeps disconnecting
I got an Orbi 770 with two satellites for 800$+ 8 months back (RBE770/RBE771). I got it imagining that this is a high end product and will give me stable Wi-Fi and connectivity for my whole home. It was all good for the first two and a half months, then the issues started popping. All my devices started seeing random Wi-Fi disconnects multiple times a day. I suspect it happens during the transition point between my router and satellite but I'm not sure. My phone for example keeps disconnecting and reconnecting often even when I'm in the same place on my bed. I followed all the troubleshooting steps that I can find online and in Reddit and simply am unable to fix the issue. The Orbi app says that I cannot reach out to customer care or create an online support case for this issue. I feel like Netgear is holding me hostage after taking 850 plus dollars. So, out of desperation to make my router work and since I cannot afford another router I am reaching out to this community for help fix my Wi-Fi. Below are all the troubleshooting steps that I've tried but I still have random Wi-Fi disconnects: Use Wi-Fi backhaul to connect all three router+2sats. (Tried this to eliminate any issues with ethernet cable) Use ethernet cables , my house had it wired to connect all three devices. ( Tried this to eliminate any issues with Wi-Fi connectivity between devices) Confirm that the three devices are at least 40 ft apart from each other.(General recommendation I see online) Use only two devices, one router one satellite. ( Just another test in case my router and satellites are close to each other, Made sure they are at least 50 plus feet apart. Use multiple phones ( to double check it's not my phone specific issue) Restarted my phone, laptop, router, satellites multiple times. Factory reset my Orbi router and satellites Update to latest firmware Disable IPv6 Revert firmware version to v10.5.18.3 (some reddit threads mention this version to be functional and fixing issues) Confirmed there is no VPN on phone. Disabled Mac randomizer on phone and devices All about did not fix my issue and I don't have hope on being able to reach Netgear for help. Can someone from this community help me in this issue? Is it in hardware issue or some bad software update?412Views1like4CommentsOrbi 770 cannot update to the latest firmwares

I have set up the VPN server on my Orbi RBE771. I can get connected to the VPN from my MacBook Pro and access my Sonarr and Radarr web interfaces. I can even pull up network and see the devices on the network but I can't get connected to them.219Views0likes3Comments
