Orbi loosing Internet Connection
Hello - I have had my Orbi installed for less than a week. 3 time now it has lost all connection to the internet. I have to reboot, unplug, both the Orbi and my modem multiple time before I can get reconnected. My old router ASUS RT-AC3100 never lost connection and I have the same modem and Comast service.
The only difference in the setup is that Netgear Tech support had me use the computers MAC address to get connected to the internet. Never had to do that before on any router I have ever owned.
HELP - any ideas why I am loosing connection.
Hello Everyone
We have release firmware version 1.12.0.18 this firmware has fixes for disconnects and many more I posted the release notes below.

If you are still having issues after updating your Orbi unit you may want to factory reset the Orbi and test again. If you are still having disconnect issues or other issues with this firmware please create a new thread or contact our support team.

- Akal575InitiateI just purchased this router today - upgraded everything to the newest firmware, and an experiencing the dropping issue. I had full signal strength tonight, was streaming west world on HBO GO and it would just stall. As soon as it happened I would run a speed test quick on my phone at fast.com and it would just spin and do nothing. It would eventually resolve itself if I have it enough time, but that sucks. When it comes back I would always run the speed test again and I would be getting 48mbps download, I pay for 50mbps. I'm concerned because everyone in this thread seems to have their issues resolved on the new firmware, but I am having issues on the new firmware right from the get go. I hope this doesn't keep happening to me because this router is amazing with coverage when it works.
I've literally had zero issues with it since the firmware update and its been awhile. Working great.
- I still have to reset the router every morning after applying latest updates. Will try factory resetting the router/satellite to see if that helps.

Hello mikelagase
Yes try a factory reset sometimes strange issues happen after doing FW updates and factory reset typically fixes it.

Since this update, my issue with my internet not working seems to have gone away. Will keep an eye on it longer.

1.4.0.18 is not very stable I have done multiple factory resets and all problems reappear attractive few days, like random drops, lan slowness and unstability But when I go to 16 no issues at all so to me it looks like a bug got introduced in 18 that needs to be addressed with next Firmware releases before Orbi credibly starts to fall and competitors get ahead.

Mine hasn't had the internet loose connection any more, but I have an issue that is irritating. You know in some games when you join up on each other, like Call of Duty Infinite Warfare or Black Ops 3, the NAT should be open and I even have port forwarding to keep it open instead of going to moderate. Well it seems the ORBI does something that my port forwarding stops working and it goes STRICT after about a week. I have to reboot the ORBI to fix it and it goes back to Open. This is getting on my nerves!

Hello killabandit
Have you made sure to do address reservation for you console so it does not change Ip address and keeps the port forwarding settings?

- Sorry to say but I'm facing the same issue with 1.4.0.34. My internet connection still keeps dropping (several times a day). Same as with previous firmware version 😫😢
This is *really* frustrating. Any ideas? Any news from Netgear?- JMU1998Luminary
.16 I have found to be the most stable at the moment you can roll back to it then do factory reset until Netgear release a stable Firmware.

I rolled back to .16 today. Hopefully that will keep it up. I don't remember any disconnects with that version of firmware. Let's hope the Orbi doesn't do an auto firmware update!
- As I wrote in another thread. This might be worth trying:
I tried to change to the TP-cable that came with the box and this might have solved it for me (well no connection drop in approx 3hrs so far). Funny thing is that my previous cable was a hq/expensive cable (had zero issues using it with my previous Asus router). Fingers crossed.- Yld2robLuminary
ON .34 Firmware. Devices starting dropping an hour ago :( Rebooted. It is back up. Let's see for how long!
- Damn. Really thought it was a cable issue or pre .34 issue. My WAN connection still keeps dropping on me several times a day. Nothing in the logs about the connection loss but a notice when it comes back up again (~30min perhaps).

This never happend with my previous router but seems to be normal with this one. Started directly after my router switch. Totally unacceptable (not that fun watch Netflix or HBO with this internet flickering going on). - JeanClaudeAspirant
I was banging my head againts the wall trying to figure out why my Orbi kept dropping my WiFi signal to the point where I was ready to return it to BestBuy. I was changing all sorts of settings in the administrator console and finally found the solution that worked for me. It was much easier then then I thought.
I found that I had my Satalite unit much too close to my Primary unit which meant that it kept fighting for ownership of which unit will provide the WiFi to my device. When that happens, it ultimatly disconnects from one unit and connects to the other unit and it appears that my WiFi has dropped again. After I moved my Satalite unit further away from my Primary unit, it solved this problem for me. No more WiFi dropping issues.
- RustproofcornLuminaryI really don't understand how this can be firmware. For the 1 that has dissconnections many more don't. I'm gonna throw this out to try. Unplug the sat. Just run on the router for a bit and see if there are any disconnections. If there are make sure beamforming and mimo are disabled just for this experiment. I would try this myself but I'm one that doesn't have problems. I do not have implicit beamforming in all my N devices can fend for themselves. I also don't have mimo turned on. Just stick settings. As a router. Gl.
