Cannot Login to Genie App
No matter what I try, I cannot login to the Netgear Genie app either on my phone or on the computer. I always get an error message. This has been occurring since the first update a few months ago. I just bought this router in December. Is the model not compatible with Genie, now? I have a N300 model WNR2000v5.

Here is the exact message I am getting, IOS.
"netgear router not found or is not supported. Make sure that your mobile device is not connected to the router's guest network and that IPv6 is not enabled”Nighthawk X6 R8000V1.0.3.36_1.1.25I was going to try and delete my post but seems that I can't, rebooting my router worked for me.
I logged out of the app and back to square 1, crappy app can you guys bring back the ther version?

- rl17AspirantI am frustrated as well. I bought the R8000 to improve wifi connectivity and allow me to monitor/control my kid's activity. I loved the control when the app worked. When will it be fixed, Netgear??
Absolutely frustrated!! - Update to my problems with the app...
My router was recently struck by lightning and stopped working. I had to buy a new one, same model, and suddenly the app is working with the new router. The first one was purchased in Jan. The second one was purchased about a week ago. Maybe there needs to be a firmware update to older models to sync to the new app. I was never able to update the firmware on my old router.- michaelkenwardGuru - Experienced User

The LAN chip on my motherboard died. I added a PCI card with LAN. Now the genie will not login unless I give it the IP address.
Then again, the browser won't login into the usual addresses either.
- JbmasveroAspirantI just installed r8000. I am connectted to the wifi but can't login to the router via genie app. It also won't let me login remotely. I deleted the app and reinstalled. Same issue still occurs.

Can you login through a browser?
By the way, you have joined in on an older discussion so there's a chance that the official support team will be too busy following new stuff to find your message. It is usually better to start your own fresh discussion if you want their attention.
- G0rilla_MC72AspirantI cant access my router on the genie app either. I can somewhat access it on my computer, however it wants me to recover my router password. It asks me for two secret questions then tells me they are incorrect answers when I know for a fact what the answers are.....really frustrated rn.

Then you can reset the password back to something of your choice.
- G0rilla_MC72AspirantI tried resetting it multiple times on the back of the modem/router. Didn't work

I like many others cannot login in the the genie app either on an android phone or the computer app since the latest firmware. I can log in the router via the browser fine. It is frustrating to see only the same suggestions from the netgear moderators, we need some kind of update as to when this will be fixed.

Tried feeding the IP address into the Android app?
I have to do that to get any access, no matter which way I try to get in. None of the "hard wired" addresses work.

I was having the same problem. I rolled back to the old firmware which can still be downloaded for my model and regained Genie functionality. Not great that you have to go back to old firmware, but it was the only thing that worked. Genie is a pretty good product to keep my kids devices filtered if you can overlook the weak tech support and poor communication as to if they were going to even roll out a fix.
Yes, I have been meaning to roll back the firmware, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I actually thought netgear might address the problem and fix it. :) This has obviously been an issue for months now and they don't seem to be addressing the issue. Or they don't know how to fix it.

From a security perspective would not think it is a good idea to roll back the firmware. This issue needs to be addressed by Netgear immediately in order to avoid even more issues!
- DdavjaAspirantAs most others the Genie app for iOS doesn't work on my device and I receive the same error message about making sure it's not connected to a guest network and disable iPv6. Done and Done! Each time there's a firmware update I instantly go into panic mode because something inevitably will go wrong! I can login through my pc and see my iPhone on the network and NOT the guest network which is disabled anyway. Factory reset is like calling your ISP and having them tell you to power cycle your modem. That's not a resolution! Thanks for the 13 months of an overpriced Netgear R8000! What a disappointment! Time to shop for a brand that's actually functionable!

Since Netgear’s QA team can't be bothered, I'll do their job for them:
Router - R8000
Netgear Genie PC software - Version 2.4.38 (Most current version as of 7/7/17)
Netgear Genie Android app - Version 3.1.28 (Most current version as of 7/7/17)
Firmware version and result:
R8000-V1.0.3.46_1.1.32 = Unable to log into Genie Parental Controls via PC app (not connected to the internet) and unable to log in at all on the Android App
R8000-V1.0.3.46_1.1.25 = Unable to log into Genie Parental Controls via PC app (not connected to the internet) but I am able to log into the Genie app on Android
R8000-V1.0.3.46_1.1.21 = Unable to log into Genie Parental Controls via PC app (not connected to the internet) but I am able to log into the Genie app on Android
==Edited==
In versions .21 I was able to access parental controls via Network map and they actually worked, in version .32 it appears to work in the Genie app, but no blocking actually takes place and when you refresh the Genie app they read as they were before the block or filtering modification. In version .25 I would try and block or modify something in the Network Map and it would just tell me my password failed (yes, I know I put in the PW properly) I also noticed that the network map failed to load my labels for my devices after I refreshed the map.
Summary:
So I guess to get almost full functionality back to Administrate my network via the PC app or the Android app it means I have to roll back my firmware by what I can only assume is a year or so. In which these firmware updates likely addressed several very notable and major security flaws that we've probably read about in the news.
So I have 2 options really:
1. have a working router with the ability to actually administrate it but in turn leaves my network open to some extremely critical vulnerabilities that every script kiddie in the world is still using just trying to find unpatched routers like mine
or
2. Have a router that is relatively updated and secure but I'm totally crippled in my ability to administrate my network the way I was told (advertisments & on-box claims)
Netgear, I hate to tell you.. but this is starting to smell like a class action lawsuit in the making! You better get off your a$$ and make something happen, because 6+ months of worthless moderators giving worthless canned responses and total inaction by your developers for a flagship product is how that happens!

Update to my last post:
The three firmwares I tested are: (I mis-typed one)
R8000-V1.0.3.32_1.1.21
R8000-V1.0.3.36_1.1.25
R8000-V1.0.3.46_1.1.32
- DjoinerAspirantI'm having the same issue with a brand new r8000 unit. Very frustrating. Has the issue been resolved or should I return this to the store?

Hi all,
There is no update from engineering yet.

Netgear should open source this then they would get quality code and wouldn't have to pay some dev who doesn't give a crap about this.
