Nighthawk(R) X4S R7800 MD5 Verify Error

Getting an MD5 Verify error when trying to install new firmware. I saw some old posts about this but nothing recent. Any advice appreciated.

  • Wooohooo! Mine worked correctly. And BTW I did NOT have to do any sort of reset, just went to the update and it worked fine from a Chrome session connected wirelessly.

  • I do find another post about this but that user is 22 versions behind. I am on V1.0.2.80 so just 1 behind.

  • Are you updating via wi-fi or over a direct ethernet connection?  Strongly recommend the direct ethernet connection.

Download a fresh copy of the firmware and make sure you remove the .img file from the downloaded zip file.

Also try using Firefox or MS Edge browser to send FW files.

  • Same, I'm just using the "Click here to get it" button in the GUI.  Haven't tried downloading it and installing it manually yet.

  • Thanks everyone for the responses. I see the 2.90 version from the routerlogin.net console but a unable to update via wifi. Will have to try the suggestions made here and will report on progress when done. FWIW I have never had an issue updating via wifi in the past.

  • Also getting a md5 error when using the web interface to update the firmware from .80 to .90. I read through the threads but I didn't see anything that solved this.. also the GUI update doesn't seem to work either with same MD5 error.

I manually downloaded it from netgear and uploading to the router which worked but didn't see the gui update in the support repository.

Try a factory reset and walk thru the setup wizard with a wired PC and web browser.

Yeah that could work :) but its just a hail marry guess. thats what I would tell people to do when I was in high school doing tech support and didn't have a clue why our product wasn't working correctly.

Also why does it matter if the pc is hardwired? When you login to the router's web interface and kickoff its firmware update process, it shouldn't be relying on your PCs connection to do that. Should be going directly from the router to netgear's firmware repository to download? or am i missing something

I am still having the issue and I have an active ticket open with Netgear and they are troubleshooting.

Already on the newer firmware, still get the MD5 error for the GUI language update.  Have a case open with NG they wanted me to factory reset the thing, figure I'll try it over the weekend.

Me too... but they have not yet asked me to factory reset. Please let us know if that works :)

Still no luck, I'm afraid. Currently running firmware version V1.0.2.84 and GUI language version V1.0.0.422, and the Firmware Update Assistant is still giving me the MD5 verification error. Unfortunately the FUA shows here both updates on the same page and doesn't provide any means to select one of them individually, so there's no way I can tell which of the two actually causes this.

OK thanks for letting us know. I got same as well on v.90...still happening. I've passed this on to NG.
