NV+ Power Supply Failure Case#17378314
My power supply for my NV+ has died. My serial falls within the range of serials that have the reported issue with the PSU causing it to fail. I understand that there is a policy to replace these PSUs for users who's units have this issue. I did try to discuss with tech support over the phone, but they would have none of it. They, infact, recommended purchasing an off the rack PSU. I do, however, also understand that there is a special pin configuration for the NV+. I do not want to burn out my unit but swapping pins around and customizing PSU is not really my cup of tea. Can anyone advise me as to what my option here are?

- ReadySECUREApprenticeHi Justin,
I took a look at the case you mentioned and as of yet there is no response. I attempted to register the serial number you mention in the case, however it shows as being invalid. I have sent a reply on the case requesting a picture of the serial number so we can get the device registered properly and go from there. - PapaBear1Apprenticejustints - you are absolutely correct that there is a non-standard pin arrangement to the ReadyNAS PSU. In the past there have been some members who have or bought a tool that makes pulling the pins easy, and rearranged the pins to match the stock PSU. However, there is no way you can shove a stand PC PSU case in the bottom of a ReadyNAS. It would be very inconvenient to have that separate box sitting to one side.
Worst case, you can get from time to time a replacement PSU from either Amazon or the Netgear Store. Obviously at the current time since the Netgear Store is out of stock, the other sources are raised their prices. This past January, I purchased mine for a little over $105 from Amazon. Your best bet is obviously to get the unit registered and work with support. You have already help from readysecure1985. - EfrohAspirantI'm posting because I have this exact same problem (dead power supply on my ReadyNas NV+ - can't register the S/N on the support website). My ReadyNas NV+ is also within the range of serials that have the reported issue with the PSU. I'm also unable to register the serial number of the device on the Netgear support website. I called the support number, and they said I should e-mail the photo of the back panel in. I probably won't get a case number until they successfully register my ReadyNas though. I hope they honor the replacement policy for the defective power supply, even though my ReadyNas is out of warranty - it's not a remanufactured device.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeAre you the original owner?
- sepsteinAspirantOy!
Same problem. Found this notice (and found it in my spam trap from 2007, as well). I'm an original owner and have my receipts, etc.
Anyone know the process for getting this fixed? I'm guessing it's the power supply - a good whiff of resistors burning and the unit won't power on.
Steve - PapaBear1ApprenticeEfroh and sepstein - I would recommend each of you open an on line Technical Support case and your own discussion thread in this forum. When you have the on line Case number, edit the first post in your own thread and post the case number at the end of the subject line just as justints has.
It appears that Amazon is currently out of stock as well as Netgear. This has been the case from time to time, and both do seem to get them back in stock. You best option at this point is to work with Tech Support. If the tech says there is no support for older units, ask to have the case escalated, as the Jedi have instructed them to replace the power supplies. Be sure to transfer the serial number over to the new unit. (It will always show up in Frontview, but you may need it when the unit is powered off sometime). - siignaNETGEAR Employee Retired@justints: Looks like your NAS has already been registered under a different customer profile. PM me your shipping info and I'll go ahead and get the RMA created for you.
@Efroh and @sepstein: PM me your serial numbers and current case numbers and I'll check it out in our system. - siignaNETGEAR Employee RetiredSo far only sepstein's took me up on my offer and he's getting a power supply out of it.
@justints and @Efroh: Get in touch with me if you want your PSUs. - AndrewL1963AspirantFirstly I have to say I had a PSU replaced by Netgear without any issues even though my nas was almost 4 years old. Very Impressed. But as of this morning the replacement unit has died. Whats the warranty on these replacement PSU's? ( Case No 17560699.) And should they fail?
- PapaBear1ApprenticeAndrewL1963 - any mechanical, electrical or electromechanical device can and will fail. The question is not if, but when.
That said, it would be best if you opened your own discussion and posted your current case number at the end of the subject line. It is not possible for anyone to see your case number unless they open this unrelated thread and either read all the way through it or go to the last post. Most of the members of this forum are not Netgear employees, but users like yourself. If you have not opened an on line Tech Support case on this, do so, and post back in the new discussion the response you get.
