Readynas Pro stuck on boot
I have a Readynas Pro that is refusing to boot.
When pressing the power butten the unit comes on, but goes no further than the Readynas logo on the display.
Disks are spinning up and fans are running.
I have tried the Usb recovery with no succes.
Pressing the reset button on the back with usb key in the backup slot when powering on the unit doesn´t give me the option to toggle betweeen modes (reinstall OS/factory default), it still goes no further than to the Readynas logo and is stuck there.
Could this be a hardware issue??

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere is a VGA header on the motherboard. There is an obvious spot for a VGA port on the back of the unit but no header cable connected to it. I should have made that more clear. If you connect to that header you may see why it's failing to boot.
See e.g. http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=223230#p223230
Before you start replacing hardware that may be fine, check to see if you can get a better indication of what the problem is. - Ok, I see the Vga port on the back and as You stated, no cable connected to it.
But where is the Vga header on the mainboard?
All I see is a lot of pins, does this require a special cable?
I´ve allready purchased a new Cpu and Ram, waiting for them to arrive.
They were not that costly, so thinking I might as well try and replace them to see what happens?? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou don't see the text VGA, RGB or something similar near the header port. Yes, the header port would be pins of some sort. You'd need an adapter.
Out of replacing CPU and RAM if you must try it replace the RAM first and see what happens. You would find having a VGA display useful of you try this. - Is there anything speaking against trying to replace the cpu and ram?
You say "if You must try", could something go wrong?
If the cpu and ram is not the problem i quess it will just stay the same and refuse to boot?
Or is there a procedure on the Readynas that does a "new hardware detected, must erase volume" kind of a thing?
Please forgive my newbie questions.
I´ve built many pc systems over the years and is quite experienced in all parts of a pc, changing parts and troubleshooting.
But never had to change any of the vital parts of my Readynas, only the fans. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired

Well if they're not the problem then it would possibly be a complete waste of time.Hitman202 wrote:

if you're not careful you could break something.Hitman202 wrote:

Yes. That's why hooking up to the VGA header would be advisable. The output that VGA gives (if any) may give clues as to what the problem is.Hitman202 wrote:

No.Hitman202 wrote:

I guess then you'd be fine with changing the CPU and RAM. - Ok , I will try and replace the Ram and Cpu when the new parts arrive.
If that doesn´t work I will try the VGA bootup option.
Wont be here until wednesday (parts), so untill then I leave it as it is..
Many thanks for the advise;-)
Will follow up on this thread later on, hoping it could help others in the same situation... - Where to get one of these Vga header cables by the way?? I f need be...
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou might find one on certain old graphics cards. You need to check the Pins on the motherboard and use one that matches.
- Where do I find a Usb flash recovery with Radiator 4.2.22? The one I have is an older version, the one installed on my Nas is 4.2.22.
When I boot up the Nas with just one disk (not from the array) it does get past the bootscreen and detects the disk - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhere does it get stuck?
Do you see an error on the LCD or in the Info (far right) column in RAIDar?
The problem could simply be your NAS hanging on a bad disk in your array, I guess.
