Mar 05, 2012Wifi with Readynas Duo
i'm looking for a way to connect my ReadyNas Duo through Wifi instead of ethernet cable...
My problem is that i have three ReadyNas and only 2 free slots in my router... So i really need to use wifi with one of them
I came across this item:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6833122373
I'm wondering if it would work with the Readynas. I picked this one because it is made by Netgear so there shouldnt be compatibility issues... Also, it is powered by USB so i wouldn't need an external power adapter
Thanks for help

- Retired_MemberIs there another way ? Am i really forced to use my ups's usb cable with the NAS instead of my PC ?
Problem is that my NAS isn't on 24/7 sometimes i turn it off... So if i follow this guide and set up my things accordingly my stuff will be turned off only if the NAS is on when the power shortage happens :(
I tryed to link UPS and PC with USB, followed the guide and edited config to use WinNUT with my computer's IP, ran WinNUT as application... and then when i tell Frontview to use UPS from my computer's IP i get an error :( - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you can get the PC to share it over your network using NUT then it can probably be shared with the NAS.

Understood. For me it is the other way around - the PCs are sleeping when I am not using them, but the NAS units are up 24/7. Also, I believe that RAID arrays are more vulnerable to power failure than single disks, so I am more concerned about protecting the NAS than the PCs.anarchoi wrote: Is there another way ? I don't use WinNUT so I can only give general advice. Did you try disabling your Windows Firewall?anarchoi wrote: I tried to link UPS and PC with USB, followed the guide and edited config to use WinNUT with my computer's IP, ran WinNUT as application... and then when i tell Frontview to use UPS from my computer's IP i get an error :(
Also, remember to connect your new router to the battery-backed side of the UPS. - Retired_Member

Is there another way to do it without WinNut ?
And yes, Windows Firewall is disabled. Router is also plugged in the UPS battery - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
Not that I know of. Most of the guides are set up assuming that the UPS is connected to the NAS and monitored by the PC over the network (opposite from what you are trying to do). Maybe someone more experienced with WinNut will respond with the right settings.anarchoi wrote: Is there another way to do it without WinNut ?
