Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
well i would be looking hard at those dvr's esp that one on 192.168.1.23 as its doing something weird to Chinese ip addresses and the orbi routers not liking it
its ether that or you are getting ddosed and you may want to ask your isp for a new ip address if fixed or restart your orbi so it gets a new wan ip address if your on a dynamic plan

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
taking out the ddos attack stuff which needs addressing
we see the list below , now all but the top 4 look like the router was ether restarted or the dhcp pool reset and reassigns ip addresses and thats all normal
the top 4 are just devices connecting as usual and as you said no real disconnects , that dvr on 192.168.1.23 seems problematc how is it connected ? ethernet or wifi and if wifi what band

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
Thanks for all the info. One newer DVR is connected through WiF, not sure which band. The others are conneted over cable (DirecTV technology); they are older and don't have WiFi build in. However, all of the do show up as connected devices to the Orbi. Whenever I have looked at log I have seen DDoS attacks in the log. When I googled it it said that this is normal but now I am not sure sure. I will follow up with my IP provider (Comcast).
The router was not restarted; at least not on purpose by me.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
then see if it does the same ting around the same time today or tomorrow , its normal for the dhcp pool to re address every 24 hours or even every 12
that many ddos attacks certainly isnt anything normal esp from one or 2 ip address ranges

Yes, it is the whole home DVR system from DirectTV. So you are right, one would act as a router. But there are really no adjustments I can make to the settings in the DVR so I guess I have to assume that I am seeing is normal.

You need to provide more information. Maybe start a new thread with informaiton on your setup and the nature of the problem you are seeing. I suggested you do a channel scan. The results of that would be very useful.
You said things were stable with router only. Did that change?
You said you would try AP mode. Did you do that?
What exactly is disconnecting? WFi clients, Internet?

I looked at my log this moring and had probably 200 entires in the log for a DoS attack from 183.xxx.xxx.xxx since yesterday morning. My internet or WiFi did not go off-line though at least as far as I know. Everything seemed to be running fine yesterday. Also after some internet searching it seems that DoS attacks are something the router put in the log but network scanning happens all the time on the internet. So I wasn't really attacked. I actually have not had a problem in about 5 days with the router disconnecting; and it auto-updated to the latest firmware.
I thought I had a fairly normal setup. Aries Surboard SB 6141 Cable Modem connected to Orbi with one satellite. Your nomal connections of PCs (both hardwired and WiFi), Apple TV, iPads and iPhones. I do have DirectTV whole house and a Sonos system as well as a couple of HUE lights connected. No gaming devices.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
My setup: Comcast Blast internet 75mbs, Arris Surfboard SB6191 connected to Orbi router with 1 satellite.
Yes, things were stable with my Asus router connected and the Orbi in AP mode but my network wasn't as fast.
I took my ASUS AC87U router off the network because I need to sell it.
I did a channel scan and the best channels listed on the scan were not an option to change to with the Orbi. I just selected the best available from the Orbi menu.
The devices that are disconnecting are; All of 3 of my Samsung Galaxy Tablets, My PS4 Pro, and my Arlo Pro cameras. I was getting dropped from the network a lot last night. My devices lose connection to the network but I still have a connection to the internet. I wonder if it has something to do with peer-to-peer connections. My wife and daughter are sometimes playing games on their tablets and if I am on my PS4 Pro playing 2K I get dropped randomly or on my tablet playing Boom Beach.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
I'd like to add my name to the list of people affected by Internet disconnects.
I only seem to have started with the issue in the last week; had the system for nearly a month.
If I turn off my satellite unit, things seem to work fine.
I've been through all of the posts and taken advice on choosing wireless channels, MTU etc
Currently waiting for my device to factory default reset and start over.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
Mine also loses connection at random. There is no modem, it is hooked up directly to the wall outlet (it is a fiber connecton). Orbi will work perfectly for awhile and then the main router will burn solid magenta. Spent hours on the phone with 2-3 people from tech support. Did everything from making sure firmware was up to date, reboot, reset, wipe to factory settings, check all networking settings and the bandaid fix was to use a static IP instead of DHCP. This worked for 2 weeks and it went straight back to burning solid magenta with no connection. Called back and they are sending me a replacement. But of couarse I have to pay for shipping AND be without wifi for a period of time while they send me another via ground shipping. This entire situation pizzes me off to be honest. For the money spent on this system to have to endure the subpar support and faulty equipment is insane. If it were not for the amount of money spent on this equipment I would have put it in a box, sh!t in it, and sent it back to netgear.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
I've been having constant disconnects from the Internet also since installing the Orbi 2-unit kit 2 weeks ago. I've tried reverting to old firmware version, adjusting various wifi settings one by one and continued to have random Internet disconnects. One of the recent settings adjustments I made was to turn OFF QoS for both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. You can reach this from the Advanced Tab -> Setup -> QoS Setup. On the WMM Tab, uncheck both boxes and save the settings. You may want to reboot the router one last time. Honestly, I don't remember if I did that step.
So far the unit has been stable since making this one change, so worth a try if you have not already done so.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
In addition, I've ordered a Netgear VDSL modem. Currently have BT Openreach modem which the Orbi Router was connected to.
I want to see if having the Netgear VDSL modem will improve my line speed, although I have read somewhere about BT matching Openreach boxes to cabinets...
If the QoS uncheck does nothing for me, I'm tempted to put Orbi in AP mode and move routing to the aforementioned VDSL / modem combo

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
To the post that mentioned turning off ipv6 made the connection stable. The ipv6 was disabled by default so I know this isn't going to fix anything.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection
I would recommend trying to disable to the WMM features under QoS settings to see if that relieves the issues with random internet connectivity issues. I did this a few days ago and almost 3 days of uptime and no Internet connectivity drops or Wifi issues.
