Looking for spare Fan Crown AGE08015B12V for Pro 6

Hi,

It appears that the CPU Fan of my Readynas Pro 6 is going to fail in the near future.
The Fan makes some "clicking noise" - I already checked that no dust/cable is producing the noise.
i conclude that the bearing of the Fan is damaged.
The Fan is a Crown AGE08015B12V:

Would be easy to replace the Fan if I had a replacement.
I spent hours searching the Internet for a supplier/vendor of Crown fans - no luck.

Any ideas/hints where to get the genuine part or a compatible Fan are highly appreciated.
(note: my Readynas Pro 6 is still under warranty but I want to avoid the cost and Overhead of sending the box to Netgear).

Thanks,

Max

  • I need a 80 x 80 x 15 mm Fan - the NF-S12A FLX is 120 mm
I considered buying a German brand - EBM Papst - but they have no Fan that is just 15 mm high :-(
The same issue is with the NF brand: They have a 80 mm Fan but it is 25 mm high :-(
    See: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&setlng=en&products_id=9

Has anyone replaced the AGE08015B12V (80x80x15mm) Fan yet?

You're right; there are very few 15mm fans available, let alone 15mm fans with airflow specs as good as that one.

I replaced mine with a Noctua NF-R8 PWM. It's a 25mm fan, but it fits if you slightly modify the shape of the ReadyNAS side panel with a hammer.

I'll take a photo of the side panel tonight and post it here.
  • Well, I guess I will not be treating my Readynas with a hammer as it is still under warranty.
Netgear obviously gets this Fan model directly from the manufacturer located in Shanghai,
so the most elegant solution would be that Netgear puts it on a list of spare parts that can be ordered
by customers who know what they are doing.
  • Finally I was able to locate a few 80x80x15 mm Fans in the Internet, e.g.
    See: http://www.blacknoise.com/downloads/old/datasheets_old/BSP_info_final.pdf
Will need some time to sort out which model electrically fits best, but I have some hope that I will not need a hammer to replace the Fan ....
  • Hi Folks,

Today I replaced my Fan with the following model:
    Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilentPRO PC-P 80x80x15mm
    Details: http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/Noiseblocker-NB-BlacksilentPRO-PCP-80x80x15mm_38569.html

    result: perfect!
Fits 100% and is very silent!

My issue is solved, and definitely no hammer was needed :-)

Congratulations. It must be a relief to have a quiet fan in the NAS.

You should probably test the new fan's cooling capacity, though, since it can flow only 2/3 the volume of the original Crown fan, and -- more importantly for this application -- it can generate only 1/3 the static pressure of the Crown fan. On a warm day, load the system -- perhaps by performing a disk scrub, or by running whichever of your applications is the most resource-intensive -- and watch the temperature in Frontview to make sure that it stays within safe limits.
  • Good points - Thanks!
Concerning temperature: Fortunately, *this* (=one of three!) ReadyNAS PRO 6 is located in the cellar, which is a cool place.
The (SYS) temperature has indeed raised a bit, but it is still far away from the maximum.
RAID scrubbing is scheduled every week, but no other load happens on this NAS, because it is a 100% mirror (backup)
of my "primary" ReadyNAS PRO 6.

The current "solution" gives me time to continue my search for another replacement fan with better specs.
I will keep you posted about the Progress.

  • Mine needed replacing some time back and I ended up with an Evercool EC8016HH12BP, though that does top out at a lower RPM than the original. The other option I found was Delta EFC0812DB.
  • So, no chance to view a picture of "fastfwd's NAS's side panel".

I put a Q6600 in mine, so I need a powerful fan to extract heat from it...
