Service Action to Prevent PSU Failures in ReadyNAS NV/NV+
A Service Action notice has been posted in the Announcement forum to prevent ReadyNAS NV and NV+ systems from premature power supply failures at viewtopic.php?t=10259. If you own a NV or NV+ within the serial number range in the notice, please either download and install the add-on or perform the simple fan reversal procedure. We've seen a small percentage of our customers experiencing power supply failure and we want to avoid any downtime you may encounter due to an unnecessary RMA process.

- travis1AspirantI have an NV+ with a serial number that falls within the premature PSU failure range. Today I found the unit powered off, and I am unable to turn it back on. No alert e-mails were sent, the unit does not have a bad smell, and the LEDs do not illuminate at all. It looks like the power supply has failed. I guess I will call NETGEAR phone support to get a replacement.
I am fairly certain I performed the fan reversal procedure. If I did, do I need to undo this procedure while installing the replacement power supply? Where are the instructions for this procedure? The original link (http://www.infrant.com/download/Enhance ... lation.pdf) does not work.
Also, should I be installing the fan speed add-on or is that not applicable for the replacement power supply? - SHS_AspirantWonderful... whilst I recall seeing said announcement and install the add-on (viewtopic.php?t=10259), seems like my PSU still died. Actually have a ReadyNAS NV (ancient rev A) and got the fanless PSU retrofit yet somehow managed to still be in the affected serial range?
Now I'm curious where I stand on the replacement PSU front as I got the ReadyNAS NV from Eaegis UK when I was still living there, the fanless PSU direct from from Infrant way back then (I recall the annoyance in having to fax the order :P) but now I'm living in Hong Kong.
I'm pretty certain it is the PSU that is dead as it took out the 5A fuse in the UK 3-pin plug, not to mention the dust inside the ReadyNAS has gained a sooty carbon black... plus this telling photo of the solenoid inside the PSU (why aren't attachments enabled here... would make support that much easier!):
I've yet to get in contact with Netgear HK (it's a Sunday after all :P), however I'm wondering if it'd be possible to source a replacement PSU ASAP then send back the old one to verify it is really dead (I'd go as far as having one FeDexed or if they are available in HK, collect in person :P)? Guess the trick of keeping the ReadyNAS in the air-conditioned guest room which stays no warmer than 25°C didn't do the trick (that or the cleaner turns off the air-con when I'm out... grr).
Edit: Great... Netgear HK is just a fax number and no telephone line... - chirpaLuminarySHS, have replied to your other posting.

For those in Australia, the NV+ is considered a business product, so don't push the "home" user button.
Also, the "home" users deal with Indian-based tech support, business gets Australians. Those in Aust know what that means ...
Pushed Option 3 - Business, and still got India.
However, after mentioning NV+ got transferred to Oz straight away - Riccardo1AspirantI bought a Ready NAS NV+ (RND4450 000D-A201-54D5) direct from Infrant on Apr-2007.
On september 2008 Power supply failed to work.
Italian Customer care resolved all saying: "sorry out of warranty, bye".
I ask where to buy at my expenses a new power supply, answer : try on some web stores.
I found tons of supplier (including Amazon UK, FR, Austria) for RND4PSU1-10000S but no one available to send item in Italy.
Not a good strategy of marketing.
But I was in ansiety for my precious data and I bought immediately a new Ready NAS NV+ (RND4000).
Of course 4.1.4 was not compatible with my version 3, but with precious help of this Forum I had success in recovering all my data.
Last week I found a US company (shopblt) that accepted to send me RND4PSU1-10000S (I had to pay shipping cost equivalent to power supply cost).
Now I had two Ready Nas NV+ working with 4.1.4.
This my case history only to externate my experience and to point out bad service from italian Netgear customer care: when I asked please can you buy for me this power supply and I will pay you shipping cost they answered : "sorry impossible". - beisser1Tutor

your serial number is within the range of the affected psu as described here:
viewtopic.php?p=54911#p54911
call italian techsupport again and tell them to look at this thread and replace your powersupply.. if they dont want to let them escalate it to someone who does. if your serial is within the range described in above thread the powersupply gets replaced, without regards to the status of warranty. - Riccardo1Aspirant

I already mentioned them this topic but they reply that whas a matter with Infrant, "we as NETGEAR garantee our products 5 years" and this 5 years apply to my new one already bought.
I wrote an email to sale manager on Netgear US but never had an answer.
I had no other reference to contact. - beisser1Tutor
