ReadyNas Duo will not factory reset
Hi all,
Ive just bought a new unit (rnd2000-100) and on first setup with a (compatible) used 2tb ex pc drive resulted in corrupt root in raidar and error light sequence 3 (bad contents on root of dsk).
Checking drive in pc, it was never formatted by the unit.
So the next step was to OS restore or factory restore to force a format BUT holding the reset button and powering on device does not result in the 2 disk LEDs coming on (as holding the power button on boot does) and no matter when I release the reset switch 5 - 40 seconds the device just seems to boot normally to return to error state 3.
Its almost as if I'm missing something totally obvious!! As anyone experienced this behavior? Do. Need to return device as switch is broken???
Thanks in advance

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you put the drive in the PC and delete the partitions on it, then put it back in the NAS?
When you try the factory default are you doing this?:
1. Power down NAS if it is on.
2. Press and hold reset button
3. Turn ReadyNAS on
4. Continue to hold reset button. The disk LEDs should flash twice. Once after 5 seconds and a second time after 30 seconds. Release after the second blink.
Welcome to the forum! - CrookzAspirantThanks for the quick reply.
Will try deleting partitions, however I did the exact steps you described but the disk LEDs don't flash as the power button boot menu does.
It just seems to be booting normally, a few flashes of the arc light then into error feedback. - CrookzAspirantTried partition delete, giving same result
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWith the partitions deleted on the disks if you simply put the disks in and power on what happens? The NAS should detect blank disks and automatically wipe them.
- CrookzAspirant3 flash error, raidar claiming corrupt root
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you confirmed that both disks are fine? What about if you try with just one disk? Does that work.

What you should see is shown here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26993 - CrookzAspirantI'm only using one disk anyway. The disk is fine. I think I screwed up as a disk wasn't installed when I turned the device on for the first time, and that a reset would fix it? I'm just confused why I cant get it to reset (before I go more drastic).
- CrookzAspirantWhat do I see if it's resetting and formatting?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should see it come up in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads) and after it boots show "Click Setup"
Sounds to me like you may have bad memory or a problem with the flash. - CrookzAspirantThat would top it resetting?
