Armor on Orbi questions (activation issues and another question)

Hey gang,

Just upgraded my Orbi to the latest firmware and, when I try to activate Armor, I keep getting the error message "Device is off-line" (see screenshot).

What I've done so far:

1. Power cycled the Orbi (pulled power cable, waited 10 seconds, and plugged it back in)

2. Tried accessing on different iOS devices

I'm reluctant to do a factory reset because I also have Circle running and it can be a pain getting it back up after a reset.

Has anyone successfully gotten Armor working on their Orbi? If so, what did you do?

Is anyone running Armor AND Circle on the same device?

Thanks,

evil

    What FW is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?

Disable Circle and see if this changes anyhing.

What iOS devices do you have?

Firmware is 2.3.0.32 (used the correct process to upgrade it)

Cable modem is a Netgear CM1000

      Router mode

Latest iOS version as of today (12.1.4)

iOS XS and iPad Pro (2018 version) - tested on both

Tried disabling Circle - no change.

Using this as my troubleshooting scratchpad so others can see what I've tried.

Tried re-enabling IPv6 (it was disabled). No change.

Hello.  On the welcome screen of the home screen, I can see Armor as activated.  It looks like the icon makes a link indication when I mouse over it but nothing happens when I click.  Furthermore when I look through all the screens I could not find any other indication of Armor including any switch to activate or deactivate.  The switch is function in the iOS app, but not through the web browser console.

Hello.  On the more general topic of questions about Armor, it's not entirely obvious what exaclty the service is doing.  From the marketing information I've read and from casual usage, I can see for instance notifications come to my iPhone whenever I connect a new device to the network, which is quaint.  Apparently antivirus software is available for PCs and Macs.  The promo also makes mention of cybersecurity threat detection, but I'm not sure how that's altogether different than what the router's firewall function is presumably doing.  Anything more I can read to help explain the service would be appreciated in case there's something I'm missing.

  • Same issue trying to activate Armor. RBR50 Firmware V2.3.0.32.  ISP is Comcast and modem is DOCSIS 3.1 Arris SB8200.

Tried it again and Armor activation from the Orbi app worked with no problems. Fully installed.

Update: I did what I said I didn’t want to do and factory reset my router.

Boom: Armor activated without issue. Now to test it with Circle enabled too.
  • Are you able to use armor at all in AP Mode? I dont even see the dang thing in app or in browser.

thanks - posted in the forum link you provided.

i am also getting the same error.

  • My issue activating Armor was fixed by most recent update of Orbi app on my android phone. After this app was updated I was able to activate Armore on my Orbi (90 day trial for now). Of course I immediately got notification prompting me to buy it but we'll see about that - I still want to figure out what this service is even doing (and will monitor my network performance for a while first to see if this has any negative impact on speed etc). By the way, at least some visibility to this service is available via https://armor.netgear.com where you can allow access to your router and then get some idea/confirmation at least regarding what it thinks is secured etc.

Sorry, no idea why you still can't activate (I'm very new to Orbi and Armor). My guess regarding your other question is that once you manage to activate the router then you should see it at armor.netgear.com (there must be some dependency between those steps - nothing else would make sense).

  • I have just updated my Orbi to the new firmware and when I try and activate Armour using the ios app I get "Error Invalid input,Please login again" when it tries to activate the acocunt. Any ideas?

I've got armor set up and it has been running fine for the past couple of weeks, however I do have a strange issue with the Armor web portal reporting all of my LAN devices "threats blocked" as "Server Problem"

Is anyone else seeing this?  I can't seem to find any documentation on it.

  • You should go to the Orbi app on your phone and activate Armor from the Security Tap after you update the Orbi's firmware. The activation was successful and active for me. However, after activating Armor, I begin to experience frequent internet disconnection from the Orbi. Not only I got a disconnection from the internet on my PC which wired directly onto the router but also wireless connection was also lost. I reboot the Orbi and the connection returns for a little bit then disconnects again out of the blue. The issues forced me to perform a full reset of the Orbi and the Armor was gone out of my account. After a full reset of the Orbi, you would have no problem reconnecting your devices back to wifi if you keep all the wifi credentials(SSID, Password, Type of encryptions(WPA2) etc..) the same as before. Most of the times, your devices will re-connect to wifi automatically. In my case, I will just leave Armor not active for now and see if my internet connection still drops for a while. I also use a Circle device on my network right now, therefore I am not sure if the Circle Parental Control device has anything to do with the interference of the Armor and causes the internet to disconnect. Hope this helps! It is really bad if Netgear's new feature Armor is the cause of wire and wireless network disconnection.

  • I am having the same issue here for the last 48 hours, and supposedly the trial period drops from 3 months to 30 days tomorrow. I would like to get this fixed and take advantage of the Armor trial.
