New Firmware 2.3.5.30
Just updated my Orbi to 2.3.5.30. Seems stable so far.
I see few "ads" for the Orbi app and links for app download in the web GUI.
Otherwise I could not see much more new things. I'm keeping to look and will report if I find new things.
The Support Download page does not yet show this SW.

Hard to tell. New systems usually come with old FW and there is a couple of intermediate builds that have to be applied first before setting to the latest. Possible that the system was doing this and eventually got updated however needed a power cycle to clear it all out.
Is the system working now after the power cycle? If not, try a factory reset on the RBR and power OFF the ISP modem for 30 seconds then back on then walk thru the setup wizard with a wired PC with the RBR...

I'm not sure what happened. Its now working fine and no issue.
The only thing I remember doing is shutting down my other Netgear xr700 that was connected to it and I went to sleep. Woke up and orbi was working fine.
When I go back home I will switch on xr700 and see if it has anything to do with orbi internet disconnection

Also can you please check the ISP Lease time in the web GUI under >> ADVANCED >> ADVANCED Home >> CONNECTION STATUS >> and check the displayed Lease Obtained and Lease Expires values when this issue happens

No light on top of the router.

Recently updated RBR40 to 2.3.5.30. After doing restarts, resetting to factory defaults, still have several issues not present in previous version:
1. After about 24 hours, access to management interface disappears, including attempts with the Orbi iOS app, and via Edge or Chrome on Windows 10 PC. On PC, neither orbilogin.net nor direct 198.168.1.1 works. Curiously, the old Windows Netgear Genie partially works, showing the network map (altho it shows most devices as "wired", which in wrong) - login not required for this, apparently.
2. Some time after the management interface becomes inaccesible, the RBR40 starts indicating no internet connection (magenta light on top), yet internet access is fine. I think eventually internet access actually does disappear. Only way to recover is via restart. Bummer. Think I'd like to just got back to previous version, which was fine for my uses; where do I find that?
Setup is straightforward: RBR40, RBW30, and Arris TMS 1602 cable modem (no router there).
Thanks

Has a power OFF of the ISP modem and RBR for 1 minute, then power ON of the ISP modem and let it sync, then power ON of the RBR. I would factory reset the RBR and seup from scratch here. Do not load any backup configurations from file. Don't enable Circle or Armor.
Swap LAN cables between the ISP modem and RBR.
How long does it take before you notcie that things start to fail?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

I have tried all the steps in the first suggestion, except swapping cable, which seems irrelevant to the loss of access to the management GUI.
I had to restart the RBR40 yesterday afternoon, as it had lost the Internet connection. Today, about half hour ago, I successfully logged into the RBR40, and saw all the attached devices, and the RBW30 showed good condition. Now, about 30 mins later, I can no longer reach the management interface - so less than 24 hours. But Internet access still working - altho that will fail in a day or 2, based on behavior in the last week or so (the top indicator is magenta).
I am using default settings for everything (I reset the RBR a few days ago, and performed a new-system setup then). I don't have any significant WiFi interference, that I am aware of (nearest neighbors several 100 feet distant). And, again, things were all working fine before the update to 2.3.5.30.
I would prefer to downgrade to previous firmware, as that had worked fine for a couple years.
(I am ignoring the possibility that there was a simultaneous failure of hardware, but I suppose that is possible).
Thanks

same problem here, RBK50 internet keeps dropping.
I changed the modem (Spectrum ISP) still the same.

Hi All
I have read through the 160+ post under this new version 2.3.5.30 version
So the story being when I bought the ORBI RBK50 on 9th Aug 2019. Plugged it all up and left he firmware update to 2.3.5.30 no issue there for RBR or RBS
Work well for 24+ day and the reboots start happening on the Sunday morning and ever since. I found at first that I notice it was 3 time with in 12 hour period.
Then I was doing more monitoring the reboots would be between 20min intervals to it running up to 12 hours.RBR50 – 1 network cable from the modem\router to the Ewan port on the back
RBS50 – has 4 Ethernet connection to devices1st configuration I tried and want to use.
Modem Billion 7800NXL – Wireless turn off but router left active as I want it that was.
Orbi RBR50 – wired direct to the modem port 1.
set in to AP Mode
With these change set
- SSID Name,
- Wifi Password,
- 2.4ghz set to channel 8 (1 used for Sonos, 6 & 11 to many in my neighbourhood)Note: The sonos boost is connect directly to port 2 on my modem Channel 1. The sonos works perfectly no drop out or issue when the orbi reboots
After 3 days had enough and Downgrade to FW 2.3.1.60 to see if the original firmware had the same issue out of the box, this time the following 2 configs were used.
2nd configuration
Modem config same as above
Orbi RBR50 and RBS50 both factory reset.
- Left the RBR50 as router mode this time.
With these change set
- SSID Name,
- Wifi Password,
- 2.4ghz left to Auto this time as I forgot to change it
- Daisy chain – turn it off (after reading it on this forum)Ran for 12+ hours without any reboots.
3rd configuration
Without factory reset 2nd config I just change it from router mode to AP mode worked great for 3 hours then reboot started
3hours, 45min, 1hr and 45min And so on.
So then on tops of 2nd config I change
- 2.4ghz to channel 8
- 20/40hz coexistence – turn it off (after reading it on this forum)
- Also turn off the RBS50 which has a few thing connected via Ethernet as I read some people found there RBS50 with Ethernet attached devices were causing issue.I haven’t turn off\unplugged all my sonos because I don’t see how they would be affecting the RBR50 as they are not plugged in to it.
I have been thinking of upgrading again to 2.3.5.30 to see if it make any differences as I did see one of the bug fixed in that first wear was to fix the random reboots. But as you can see I was getting them with my first configuration
Any other thought recommendations would be great. If I don’t get a resolution by this weekend or early next week I have been told by the store I can return it.
Just have to look for another solution if it is the velop or something else.

Well I had enough last wednesday. I spent tuesday night configuring all my router setting in to the orbi and set my Billion 7800nxl to Bridge mode then did some testing of routers and then went to bed.Wednesday woke up a check up time of the router and it say 36min which is telling me it had reboot during the night. Two hours later reboot again. So after that I had enought the Orbi it would reboot in AP or Router Mode so factory reset and back to ththe shop I bought it from and swapped it for Linksys Velop Tri-band. went home hookup it up set to AP mode, configured the nodes and then put them in the correct location around the house. Then did a rescan on the channels to make sure they are optimized and been running sold ever since.
Orbi would be a great product if it just worked.

Never again. This is one of the more expensive wifi systems out there and I have nothing but constant effing problems since I got it in March. I've spent hundreds of hours troubleshooting on my own and at the direction of Netgear support (regular and escalated "technical" support), only to have them close my case at the end of my 90 days. And they never resolved my issue!
It's a garbage product and, as far as I'm concerned, a garbage company. This is the worst customer support experience I've had in a very long time. It's like readin the Da Vinci Code to figure out what phone number to call or how to even access your case if you're able to create one. And as everyone is pointing out, each firmware "upgrade" that is released just breaks it in new ways. Are there any competent engineers at Netgear? Obviously, they don't have any talent but just mediocre competence would be great at this point.
I will never, ever spend money on Netgear. Even though I've used their products since the '90's, this experience w/my Orbi has been a nightmare. I've uttered no shortage of curse words towards this company over the past six months. Customer support doesn't exist here.

Maybe post about what your having problems with and maybe we can help you get it running. We've been able to help users and there Orbi systems and get them working well.
if your interested in help, please post the details.

I agree with few points that you raised, but I still think that Orbi is a great product with excellent potential and Netgear is a good company with many high quality products.
This is how I see Orbi:
Good:
- Orbi's hardware and software design makes it one of the best mesh systems in the market, if not the best. Hardware capabilities are unique and until today not many other brands have anything close.
- The operating system on which Orbi is built is powerful and flexible which makes it easy to find and fix faults and introduce new features and functions.
- Every Orbi software release makes the product a better product by fixing bugs and introducing new functionality. In 2.3.5.30 the following was made better:
- Devices are roaming much better and more consistent in 2.3.3.50
- No more wireless devices showing as wired in Attached Devices.
Looks like Netgear made improvements and fine tuned the radio parameters:
I see that Band Steering is working now more effectively. Devices that have 5 GHz capability are -mostly- being moved to 5 GHz.
Devices are moving between the bands and between the Router and Satellites with no disconnections.
At the same time I see less DHCP events in the Logs which -for me- means that only needed "roamings" are happening, specially for the stationary IoT devices.
- Logs in Orbi are consistent (no missing log types), and not getting full very quickly as when I had the wifi disconnects.
Bad:
- Every new software introduces new faults that were not existing in previous releases. In 2.3.5.30 this following faults were introduced:
- Wired backhaul loops if you also have done wireless sync between router and satellite.
- Sensitivity to connected devices that can cause the whole system to stop fuctioning well.
- ISP lease time issue is still existing. This was introduced in 2.3.x software and is still there.
- Communication is not the best. We don't see presence for Netgear's support and design engineers to help usets to troubleshoot and fix issues. Also Support's response and resolution times are usually not acceptable.
What can Netgear do to make Orbi a better product:
- Better communication is needed. Netgear should monitor this forum, be present and provide feedback.
- Better testing. System and regression testing should be improved to avoid introducing new faults with every software.
- Introducing of built'in troubleshooting tools -in the Orbi app and web GUI- to help users to find and fix issues. For example it took me few days to find out that Orbi's sensitivity to a faulty speaker caused all wireless devices to continuously drop wifi, until I found out the culprit speaker and factory reset that speaker to fix the issue,

Save yourself alot of grief and stop doing manual updates. NG responsed after the masses complained about pushing unwanted FW updates. Now the only ones that are pushed are those with MAJOR changes. If your network works, LEAVE IT ALONE. The speed you chase will kill you.

I want to follow up on this, especially for anyone who lands here for the same reasons I did.
I finally had enough w/this Orbi garbage that simply doesn't work and went out and bought Google WiFi Home System. It's about the same price, so not cheap, but what a difference!!!! Seriously...I did end up calling support, but get this...they actually have their phone number easy to find. And someone actually answered! And, they actually took the time to get it all set up and running smoothly!
The Google WiFi system is leagues above Netgear and Orbi. Seriously. It's better hardware and the support was amazing...absolutely top-notch. I literally spent months going back and forth w/Netgear support, almost exclusively through their web-based ticket system, and the second my 90 days was up they closed my case w/no way of re-opening it. F-U Netgear...I will never, ever buy your products again and I will yell it from the top of every mountain I can to everyone I know in the tech industry to completely avoid you. What am I going to do with these useless Orbi devices now? Good bye and good ridance.

Good luck. No company/network device is immune to firmware update glitches. As error prone as NGs FW update history has been, they have made an effort to appease their end users with somewhat controlled releases. I hope you weren’t one that was looking to squeeze one more drop of speed bit or just curious as to what the next FW would do for your network.
Check back and let us know how you fared with Googles FW updates and procedures. Adios....

I would agree that Google's Support is better, but hardware-wise, Orbi is way more advanced and powerfull than Google Wifi:
- Orbi has a dedicated backhaul that Google Wifi does not have. So the same wifi channels are shared between devices and the backhaul. Orbi has 3 separated wireless links, while Google Wifi has only one.
- Throughput (Performance): Orbi has AC3000 (RBR50) and AC2200 (RBR20 and RBR40), while Google Wifi can only support AC1200.
- In Google Wifi, you have to have internet connected to change any setting, which can be sometimes not practical.
Goog luck!

Devices handle there own way of connecting and how they choose to connect to the Orbi WiFi.

I'm on V2.3.1.48. No new devices added or changes to system. In UK running Virgin Netgear in modem only mode. Has been good for 3 months with maybe 2 drop puts. But in the last week I have lost Internet 5 times, a reset of the Orbi router brings it back, the modem is continuously showing Internet connection is fine in to the house, and the modem does not need to be touched.
So despite the mixed reviews of V2.3.5.30 I am about to upgrade my RBR50 and 2 x RBS50 via browser, and cross my fingers for the best. Will post back in due course, wish me luck.

Keep in mind that a factory reset maybe needed if you see problems after upgrading. We know it shouldn't be needed, however sometimes it needs done. Good luck.

Firmware 2.3.5.30 is an absoolute disaster. My orbi system was getting disconnected from internet time to time. Lets say twice a week or a little more often. In order to fix this I went ahead and upgraded the firmware to 2.3.5.30, now it keeps rebooting every 2 hours or even less. I tried to capture the traffic to see whats going on with wireshark and did not see anything obvious. Netgear please fix this. I cannot return this product because, I have been using it for a little more than a year.
Netgear, please fix this mess. I am a software engineer in a big software company any this is not how a product is developed. You guys simply making a hardware and push it out there with fancy new features without even testing it much. Please stop creating new models and work a little on reliability.

Just curious.....did you do the FW update manually or was it performed auto-update?
- AFDLuminaryI didn't perform any action from my side to perform the update . I assume it was an auto update .
It's a disaster , also WiFi is unstable . Let's see if I have some time today to rollback . For the moment, status is : all the devices connected to the main router with the mentioned problems .

It's best to start by doing a factory reset on the system and setup from scratch after updating FW.

FURRYe38 I have a question for you. I noticed you have a lot of experience with the ORBI and your advise would be much appreciated.
I have an ORBI RBR50 with one satelite RBS50
I have followed your suggestions from other posts disabled Daisy chain, set it to 40hz only, MIMO and so on. It works great without disconnects perfectly, except when my ISP goes down and then back up. That disconnects start all over. When I send out a ping through command prompt lets say ping www.ibm.com -t.. After lets say the 10th try, the ping would either go above 1000ms or straight up Request Time out and then back to normal and after few more pings does the same thing. Now the only way I have found for it to work is if I turn off my modem, router and sat, and then turn on the modem, wait till I get a couple of lights out of 4, turn on the rbr50, wait till it turns on and start blinking as if it is trying to sync and then turn on the satallite. If I don't follow it through exactly, I have to redo it all over again. Any suggestions?
P.S I have done factory reset and it works until the power goes out or the ISP is having issues and it does it all over again- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
What is the Manufacturer and model of the ISP modem? Built in router here or stand alone modem only?
Kind of sounds like the ISP service line needs to be looked into.
I would download pingplotter.com and install on a wired PC. Connect it directly to the ISP Modem with out the RBR online. Run some plots to pingplotter.com and let it run for a while if you can. See if it picks up any errors or Pack Loss along the way.
Ensure your ISP as checked the service line up to the ISP Modem.
If a cable modem, be sure to use good quality RG6 coax cabling.
Ensure there are no coax cable line splitters between the ISP service box and the modem.
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Now the only way I have found for it to work is if I turn off my modem, router and sat, and then turn on the modem, wait till I get a couple of lights out of 4, turn on the rbr50, wait till it turns on and start blinking as if it is trying to sync and then turn on the satallite. If I don't follow it through exactly, I have to redo it all over again. Any suggestions?
P.S I have done factory reset and it works until the power goes out or the ISP is having issues and it does it all over again

What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
