New Orbi RBR50/RBS50 Firmware Version 2.3.1.44
Netgear is pushing out yet another a new Orbi firmware update.
Hopefully it's better than the last version v32.
Please share your experience.

- pablohoneyLuminaryThis is seriously pissing me off. I did a factory reset but who knew it actually keeps the latest firmware installed and it did not fix my issue. FFS.....
- gr8shoVirtuosoPerhaps using all the non DFS channels isn’t neighborly. It doesn’t make sense though for daisychain to impact WiFi speed in a one satellite config.
If I had a few hours alone with the Orbi, I’d try a downgrade test just to prove if there’s an actual change of speed involved.- Zephyr3200AspirantI update RBR/ RBS to v.44 a few days ago and setup from a factory reset.
Everything is perfect except when I download apps to update on IOS devices over the air , music stops on my Sonos system Boost setup wired directly to the RBR... and i stream only TuneIn ...it got worse when I stream Tidal music of course . I got this problem too on previous firmware version. Is there a way to correct it? Thanks.

I did a downgrade to 210 again , this is the steps
1. Download 210 for both master and slave (ie.RBR50 and RBS50 or whatever models you have)
2. Unplug cable modem
3. Log into satellite (RBS50 or whatever your model firmware is) (find IP in network map on app or other spots) I use Firefox browser on my Mac
4. Do a manual firmware load , it may take a minute or two to load.
5. When that is done , go to the main router advanced settings, then administration, firmware update, and load RBR50 (or whatever your model is) firmware from there
6. I powere cycled both satellite and router (unplug router, unplug satellite, plug router back in, plug satellite back in). May not be needed.
7. Telnet and config explained here.
@mith_it wrote:
>> If you manually downgrade to .210 you can then telnet and disable autoupdates. See https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/comments/8ke43v/how_to_disable_autoupdate/dz6xz9l/
8. Now plug cable modem back in.
So far no auto updates like my last time I tied 210
I have not factory defaulted router and set up from scratch, although it is recommended by many , I have done that many many times with most of my routers over the years and only found it to work if the firmware is really crappy but that firmware would go bad over time again anyway, to each their own. (note I only had this router over a month or so.)
Now on 210 vs 44 (maybe even 32, I just can’t remember that one to much as it only lasted days before 44 from when I installer 32).
‘On 210, my outside cameras have 3 bars of WiFi, make note I never moved the RBR or RBS or any of my cameras, I only got 1 or 2 bars of WiFi from my far cameras, that is a huge difference.
My tv streaming has not hiccuped like on 44, also note one of my TVs was getting its streaming through a hardwire to the satellite, Satellite using backhaul to router.
Conclusion WiFi and backhaul is crap on 44, I am going to stick with 210 as long as it stays, hopefully for a long time.
Everything is checked in advanced WiFi except Enable Daisy-Chain Topology
‘that is not checked. , I use channel 7 2.4 GHz and 48 for 5GHz as I have others on 1,6, and 11 in my area and 7 is working great for me. I also enabled jumbo frames in the screen you have to enable telnet on the router, my personal preference.
Hopefully this his helps others and thanks goes out to the ones posed the info on telnet, thank you. Again to each their own and best of luck to those on 44 that seem to be or working ok.
thank you

This can have negative impact on performance if any device (switch/client/IoT/etc.,) in the same network can't handle or doesn't support jumbo frame. Otherwise, it is very useful for xfering big files when all devices in the network support/speak jumbo frame.
Thanks for sharing your setup/config/experience.
I have been using orbi for the last 2 years & i have refrain myself many times in the past from adding any unwanted & negative comments everytime when a new FW update released by NG, but unfortunatley the latest update 2.3.1.44 has just made the whole thing a joke...the wifi signal is constantly dropping / satellite drops off with config issue & slow wifi speed...
its utter nonsense & i cant believe a reputed company like NETGEAR can release a software update without a proper testing, i will forsure not recommend ORBI to anyone...
& just a quick question does the telnet way of force stopping the auto FW update actually works? ie:- https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/comments/8ke43v/how_to_disable_autoupdate/dz6xz9l/
as im really considering of doing this over the weekend after downgrading the FW.

Yes the telnet is holding for me
The first time I did it I left my cable modem connected and it took the update again a day latter,
So I unplugged the cable modem , flashed , telnet , when all done I plugged cable modem in. No auto upgrades so far for me and I even did not factory default the Orbi as it is working perfectly with 210. - FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Try a factory reset and setup from scratch. I've had zero issues with wifi dropping with v44 loaded. Others as well. Just need a factory reset and setup from scratch is all.

I've been having non stop wifi dropouts since this firmware update was pushed out. I have to restart the RBR50 and two RBS50 sattelites every 20-30 minutes just to get it to work for a little while. I've owned the Orbi for 1.5 years and have gone through multiple periods of huge dropout issues related to firmware updates. I dont have the time or patience to spend half a day trying to revert back to an earlier firmware version or trying to troubleshoot Netgear's shoddy hardware and software engineering. The only reason I've kept it this long is because it cost so much I wanted to at least get some use out of it before tossing it in the dumpster. Going to start looking for an alternative this time. It's not worth the constant hassle to keep the Orbi. Will definitely never buy a Netgear product again!

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Sorry, but none of this is helpful. "Just need a factory reset and setup from scratch is all." I've been down that road each of the multiple times the Orbi has failed over the last year and a half and I'm done wasting time on it. Would you be fine with having to wipe and restore your phone each time it's updated? How about wiping and restoring your computer each time it's updated? Or any of your other electronics? It shouldn't require hours or days of troubleshooting to try and restore a working wifi setup everytime Netgear pushes a firmware update.
And as far as "What size is your home? What's the distance...? How many neighbors...? etc." None of that changed, so it's completely irrelevant. The Orbi had been stable for a few months with no drop outs. The only thing that changed is that Netgear pushed a defective firmware update out, automatically updated my router, and made a mess of my wifi network. The issue is their firmware and not my set up.
I'm not going to waste an hour or two trying a reset that may or may or may not work. I'm going to use that hour or two to research and buy a new router from a company with better quality products and better customer service.

If you are running out of things to try, give these settings a shot. If you've already tried, then ignore.
- Preamble Mode: Short Preamble
- Disable Fast Roaming
Apply the changes and then reboot the Orbi router/Saltellites and wait for the Satellites to fully sync with the router by going to Firmware Update page to verify that the Satellites are not stuck in "Waiting for connection". Next, verify that there's no wireless Collisions via http://192.168.1.1/RST_statistic.htm.

Thanks for the advice, but as I stated earlier, I’m done wasting time trying to troubleshoot the Orbi system. I’m going to buy something from a different brand and write off the $600 I wasted on the Orbi. Good luck to everyone else trying to make the Orbi work as it should!
My RBK50 auto-updated from v2.2.1.210 to v2.3.1.44 about 36 hours ago. So far I haven't noticed any downside effects due to the update. On the first login I was prompted to change the password because it was not secure. The following several logins after the password change logged "admin login failure" in the event log in addition to the "admin login" events but now that seems to have cleared.
My previous problems were:
- Sending logs by email when the log is full did not work properly. Jury is still out on this with the new update. Will update here when I have a conclusive report.
- The Attached Devices showed an iPhone 8 as unknown when connected to the satellite. Jury is still out on this. I will update after the iPhone 8 comes back on the WiFi network.
- The Logs stopped recording intrusion events (DoS Attacks) after v2.2.1.210. Those events are now once again recorded in the log.
- pablohoneyLuminaryMy issue with download speed halving on account of this update was incorrect. It appears to have been a provider problem as when I disconnected the bridge I had set up between the ISP router and the Orbi and connected directly to the ISP router and ran a speedtest using an ethernet cable I got the same speeds even though the router appeared to be syncing correctly. Anyway, I did a factory reset and it resolved all issues thankfully. So far so good on the latest firmware. I suppose the lesson learned is that the issue may not be the Orbi/local network but could be a wider problem. If possible check with neighbors who are on the same ISP network to see if they are experiencing problems also.

Thanks for letting us know. Glad you found the real problem. Yes, there is reason why we ask questions on here regarding ISP HW and items in between. Glad it's working now. Besure to do a back up configuration to file.
Enjoy. :smileywink:

My experience with .44 so far is that WiFi speeds and reliability seem to degrade over time. One thing that I have found that is unusual is that I have 5 Apple TV's, and when they start to have problems, I have found that the quality & speed of their connection to the WiFi improves if I restart the Apple TV. This seems unusual to me, but I thought it might somehow provide a data point not seen before.
One last thing I plan on doing before I go back to .210 is to verify that daisy chain is truly disabled by looking for the hidden 5G bands from the satellites. If it is not, I will toggle the setting and check again. I may try a 30-30-30 reset followed by setup from scratch, as I already factory reset and setup from scratch shortly after I was automatically upgraded to .44.
- eljarvisoLuminaryI’ve noticed the same problem with my orbi. My AppleTV will also show poor throughput after a while and also require a reboot. I’m running mine in AP mode. Next time it happens I’m going to try a disconnect and reconnect instead of a reboot.

What WPA security modes are you using?Try enabling WMM, Beamforming and MIMO. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

System Uptime v44 07:23:35:01 - FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Performance is correctly I do get to spec speeds both wired and wireless. 200/10.
Uptime is important as well. Shows that the system hasn't rebooted, crashed or done anything to cause down time. Shows normal operation time.
Daisy chain is disabled since I only have 1 satellite.
- DougB628Apprentice
First, I'm not sure what is wrong with the Model field - I haven't been able to select my model in at least a week. If I type Orbi in there, the options do not include my model.
Next - while trying to confirm that I truly had Daisy Chain disabled, it appeared that I did not. Further investigation reveals that satellites also have their own debug.htm page, and one of the items that appears is "Disable Daisy-Chain". One of my satellites has that checked, the other does not. Looking at the wifi signals around my house, I do see more hidden Netgear signals than I think I should. My understanding is that Daisy-Chain is implemented for wireless by the satellites also enabling a backhaul 5G signal.
For kicks, after realizing that you can Telnet to satellites as well as the router, I dumped the config (config show > config.txt) from both of my satellites, and transferred them to my MacBook Pro. I sorted them, then compared them. There are many differences, some of which seem unexpected. One thing I did NOT find that I expected to, was a setting that was obviously the daisy-chain config.
I'm guessing the only way to get daisy-chain disabled on both of my satellites is to turn it back on and then off again, which means I get to restart twice...
- DougB628Apprentice
So after turning daisy-chain back on, waiting through the reboot, then back off again, and waiting through the reboot, my router and main satellite show it as disabled, but my second satellite shows it as enabled on it's debug.htm page. When looking at the WiFi signals present in my house, I'm seeing two hidden 5G networks that have MAC addresses that are right in sequence with my router and my second satellite. I see no hidden 5G network with a MAC address in sequence with my primary satellite. So I'm almost certain that my second satellite has daisy chain enabled.
Anyone have any ideas on how to reset this? I thinking maybe a factory reset of the satellite and then re-associate it to my router - does that seem like the best plan?
- So when is the next firmware version to be released?

When I did the home network reboot, I made sure all devices were disabled and confirmed through the Orbi app. I also cold started both the router and the satellite. If you did these steps as well, perhaps factory resetting that one satellite might be enough.
If you hadn’t yet performed a factory reset when you moved to .44, then doing it now would make sense to ensure things start fresh. I had already done this earlier after the firmware updated itself, hence why I did not do it a second time.
- I’ve found you need to do this to ‘clean out’ a satellite config.
Switch satellite off.
Wait until the router gui shows disconnected and then hit remove.
Switch satellite on and immediately factory reset it via the button.
Wait until it finishes booting up
Add new satellite via the gui.
If you just reset the satellite it seems the router just resyncs it complete with any issues.
- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Probabaly a reset should be tried on the RBS first. Last resort would be a reset on the RBR if something fails to connect.

Hows was your system updated? Auto update or did you manually update with FW files?
Update and continue or factory reset and setup from scratch after the update?

Something trying to access your wifi network incorrectly?
I would turn off all wireless devices, then clear the logs on the RBR. Then turn on 1 by 1 yoru wireless devices and see if the logs pick up anything...

The MAC address that is denied is the satellite address not a MAC address of something trying to connect to WiFi. The particular satellite in question always appears to be connected.
