Orbi loosing Internet Connection
Hello - I have had my Orbi installed for less than a week. 3 time now it has lost all connection to the internet. I have to reboot, unplug, both the Orbi and my modem multiple time before I can get reconnected. My old router ASUS RT-AC3100 never lost connection and I have the same modem and Comast service.
The only difference in the setup is that Netgear Tech support had me use the computers MAC address to get connected to the internet. Never had to do that before on any router I have ever owned.
HELP - any ideas why I am loosing connection.
Hello Everyone
We have release firmware version 1.12.0.18 this firmware has fixes for disconnects and many more I posted the release notes below.
https://kb.netgear.com/000044171/RBR50-Firmware-Version-1-12-0-18
If you are still having issues after updating your Orbi unit you may want to factory reset the Orbi and test again. If you are still having disconnect issues or other issues with this firmware please create a new thread or contact our support team.

I am experiencing this same issue with the new firmware, previous firmware was great rock solid. With the new firmware seeing multiple wireless drops randomly throughout the day this is totally unacceptable and unstable, when it works it is great wired connection is just fine but wireless constantly drops even after daily reboots. Will this be fixed in next firmware Soon? Going to go back to old firmware until Netgear releases the corrected new firmware to address this, hopefully soon.

It would be nice if someone from Netgear would respond so we know they know about the issue and are working on it.

Hello everyone
Yes I have reported this to the engineers but could someone provide the logs when these connections drops happen so we can look into the cause.

I started having the same problem this morning. Spent a number of hours trying to figure out what was going on. In my case I am using the Orbi in AP mode connected to my Netgear D6200 modem/router. When the Orbi quits working it even affects the wired connections to the D6200. To the point that pages take forever to load if they load at all. After I found this thread I have rolled back the firmware to 1.2.06 to see if that helps.
I'll report back if it my results.

I rolled back to v1.2.06 so far two days. No issues. BTW I picked up the 3 pack from Costco. Now I have 3 routers in my house.

Mine ran all night on 1.2.0.06 without any problems. Then it upgraded to 1.3.0.26 on it's own and the problem came back.
Well I dug out a old SpeedStream 4100 Modem put it in bridge mode. Connected it to the Orbi back in rout mode lets see how this works. Using it in AP was a disaster.

Have ran 6 days now without any problems. It just would not play well in AP mode with the Netgear D6200.

I have opened a support ticket reference number is 27662223 with Netgear to review the latest FirmWare to address the wireless drops being experienced by many people. It looks like a lot of people are having the same issue with frequent wireless drops on various clients with the newer Firmware.
In my case when the wireless dropped it also affected all my wired devices. Don't understand this because I was using the Orbi in AP mode and all the routing was being handled by my D6200.
sounds like different issues
i have been using the orbi in both router and AP modes without issue , in ap mode it was running behind an asus rt-ac88u with its wifi disabled
Once I upgraded to the newest firmware I started losing connection to the internet. Then the interesting thing was that I ran a network scan and it showed the router address (.1) as being a different device and not the Orbi router. None of my devices are on static - they only have DHCP reservations. Once I reboot the Orbi it goes back to normal. I reverted the firmware back and it has happened once instead of every day. Not sure what's going on.

Is netgear going to do anything about us loosing Internet connection and frequent wireless drops daily for $400 one would imagine some decent Firmware and stability.... very frustrating to finally have a device that removes all deadzones but totally useless unreliable Firmware update pushed out in a hurry without fully testing.

they would if it effected everyone but it doesnt , in fact here its quite stable , there has been some word that ppl have had sucess returning to store and getting a replacement orbi which doesnt have the issue

Issues started with the new Firmware with the old fw it working great hoping the next fw will address the random and frequent drops.
Just upgraded to the latest firmware on everything. Still way too soon to tell - the addition of guest wireless is super nice. That was a big missing feature. Will check it out for a couple days and report back.
How is the new firmware? It isn't listed on NetGear website.

I updated the FW on Friday night, and so far so good - everything has been working tip-top, but I wasn't having any issues at all with previous FW versions either.
To do the update, I just kept refreshing my Firmware page within my Orbi's Admin page throughout the evening... The first several times I tried, it would load an update link for the router or the sat, but not both (one or the other would hang or just not load).
Finally, later that evening, I got both update links (router and sat) on that that page to load up, and so I did the update from there. It went fine.
Cheers, Chris
- Timon95InitiateI have the new firmware update. I am on my 2nd Orbi, first one kept loosing connection a week after getting it. This one took 2wks to start acting up. The satellite works fine, no software updates for that. The router is horrible, updated as soon as I installed. Some devices work and some do not. Getting frustrated. Getting ready to give Netgear a call. This is crazy, we paid a lot for these, they shouldn't be crapping out on us like that.
I really hope this new 1.4 firmware fixes my issue with rebooting Orbi and having to hard reset my cable modem in order to get an internet connection again.
From when I upgraded it has been super stable and no issues at all. Haven't dropped any connection and speed tests have come back reliably. For the one mentioned above where you would not be able to see the sattellites to upgrade - my suggestion there is to move the sattellites to a closer location. In order to ensure connectivity there are a number of variations that cause signal interference and if they are too far apart - connection will be disparate between the router/sattellite.
I do wish with Orbi they would show a signal meter on strength between the sattelite + the router in order to determine if they are too far away placed or if they are OK. Kind of have to guess at this point or use a wifi analyzer. I use airodump-ng or on OSX WiFi Explorer.
So far so good with the latest firmware.
I haven't had any further issues since the new firmware. No more rebooting needed.
