netgear genie not compatible with windows 10?

HI, i see many discussions here about the problems with Netgear Genie app and windows 10.  I have a newly purchased Netgear R6220.  I installed the Genie app onto my windows 8 laptop, and it was working fine.  I subsequently upgraded to windows 10, and now the genie no longer works.  Gives me an error message that it has stopped working.  I have tried un-installing and re-installing which hasn't worked.  I see references here to using an older version, 2.4.12, as a temporary solution, however none of the links that were provided in the previous discussions seem to work for me.  They take me to a netgear file download page which says that "Requested file does not exist".  Can someone please provide me with a link to download this 2.4.12 netgear genie version?

I am also experiencing decreased internet speed and wifi signal since hooking up this router.  I was previously using an old Linksys wireless g router and getting good signal strength all over my house (approx 2000 sq feet, single story).  I have placed the netgear router in the same place, and am now not getting any signal in my farthest room, and a signal in the "POOR" range on the netgenie meter in all other rooms.  Doesn't seem to matter if I'm sitting next to the router, or in the adjacent rooms.  I'm using 2.4 ghz (no 5ghz devices).  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Look at the range rating on yours then check out r7000 range rating. If range is a problem you should consider a different router. Try installing genie using administrator, I installed genie last week on a Win 10 PRo  64 and it worked fine.

My r7000 is working fine as a router in my fairly small one-bedroom apt, but maybe that is not surprising.  However, I also cannot get the current version of Genie to run on a new Windows 10 machine.  The older version, which I finally found a workable link to by scouring the forums, displays in a TINY window, almost unreadable. I would say the font is no bigger than 2 pt, maybe 3.  Why write an app to behave this way?  And nope, not changing my screen resolution, which already is at 175%, just so I can see Genie.  So there are two Genie fixes needed. Get it to run reliably on WIndows 10, and do something to make sure it stays readable as people upgrade to higher and higher screen resolutions.

      Tnx.

strange mine installed and worked fine, to be clear your win 10 was not an upgrade rather a full install

Only because people turn up with problems. The many many people who, like me, don't have problems with Windows 10 and Genie see no reason to boast about it.

Version 2.4.20 works fine here in Windows 10.

  • I use a Netgear 14 modem/router. Windows 10 advised me after the installation that it was not compabitible with Netgear Genie. Isn't it Netgear's responsibility to make sure that Netgear Genie is compatible with Windows 10 and not the other way round, and when does it propose doing something about it?

I had Genie on my laptop which had Win 7 - I upgraded to Win 10 now I cannot reinstall Genie because I get a message that tells me that Genie is not supported on Win 10 - This is NETGEARS problem as to informing users about such issues and hopefully giving us a fix.

When I treid to give Netgear my requested serial # it said it wasn't valid!!!!

They can't even get that right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Netgear genie is compatible with Windows 10. Just read the messages here.

If you have a problem, then you need to dig a bit deeper and look for reasons. If you can say more about the problems that you see, then maybe someone can help.

What happens when you run the genie?

The fact that Windows 10 complains does not mean much. It is not infallible.

Not much that Netgear can do without information. Complaining that "it doesn't work" is not much for it to go on given the experience of those who have no problems.

  • Hello to all and to all, please excuse my English because this is a translation. I have myself a problem with Netgear Genie whose several versions I tried (of 2.4.12 to the last version 2.4.20). My problem is not an error of launch of the program which dashes(launches) him(her) very well, only concerns(marigolds), it is that when is I restart the PC or if I him(her,it) put out(switched off) and relights him(it), Netgear Genie does not dash(launch) any more in the starting up. Thank you if somebody knows the problem, I am under Windows 10 Professional 64 Bits.

  • I forgot to tell you that I have R7000 and that with Windows 8.1 it worked very well, but since I installed Windows 10 there partition and formating my SSD, Netgear Genie launches well but does not launch automatically in the restart or by putting out(switching off) the PC and relighting him(it) later or later.

Look back to about mid January 2016 where I had similar problems and was advised by Dexter and another Contributor, which after some thought was the solution to my problems. Took a bit of time and patience but got there in the end,  Good Luck

  • Thank you for the answer, but what was the solution that Dexter and another collaborator gave you please?

The Dexter and Michaelkenward replies are listed on page 3 of the relative Netgear page where your item of request for help is shown on page 4. You need to troll back up through the individual items to page 3 and look around the dates of 16 Jan to 23 Jan 2016. I try and not rewrite details just in case a Typo mistake is made. Go direct to YOUR item  SUBJECT title by clicking on the subject heading, this should take you to the starting point and from there you look at the items posted. Look on the left of each item posted for who posted it and if necessary click on the REPLY button, to see whether details posted are relavent to help you fix your problem. I have just checked and at this moment the suggestions are still available to view. Have a go and get used to viewing replies and have a satisfactory Sunday.

  • Thank you for the answer, but I had already tried and it gave nothing, of more this help is for those whose genius netgear plants, me he works, but as I the said, when I boost the PC or if I put out him and relight him, netgear genius does not dash automatically and I do not have the icon in the zone of notification of Windows 10 64 bis.

I am sorry but I am not a genius in this area of IT. I have a difficulty understanding your problem in the obvious translation details.

Why don't you post a new item in you own normal langauge, there are all types of people out there from all countries that maybe able to help you solve your problem. Keep plugging away to get this resolved, patience is the name of the game.

  • Finally found ver .12 got it to run and not shut down immediatly as newest version .20 does brand new asus G752 laptop i wish that netgear gets there s__t together to see what is going on or is this my mistake for going with this router instead of staying with D-link

Help please. I got a new Dell Desktop. I connected it and the wireless was found without a problem.

Then I downloaded genie. It downloaded and would not work, I kept getting a message stating Windows cannot open this program will let you know when it finds a solution. So, clearly Win 10 has NO solution. I went to one link that was posted in the in this thread and it gave me this message

Requested file does not exist! So I don't know what to do. I need to make it work. I got a new Kindle and I keep putting in my password and my Kindle is not connecting. I need to trouble shoot my wireless. Plus, I really really like genie and all the information it gives me.

      Help, please!
Also someone sent us to this link http://netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx I downloaded, it said complete I went to open it and got the same message. Please help!

I tried to inset a snippet photo of what is happening however, it would not let me.

      Thank you

I am trying to include a snippet picture of the error message, however, when I go to pictures it is not letting me post it or I am doing something wrong on my Dell Desktop.

  • I can't connect my new computer to the internet. My old dell is hooked up ok and my cell phone but can't hook up new computer with win 10. Can someone help me?
    • How are you trying to connect? LAN (wired) or wifi?

What Internet hardware are you using? (Modem/router?)

You'll have to tell people more about what you are doing before they can begin to guess at what might be going wrong.

It is also usually better to start a new message when you have a problem, rather than to latch on to something that has been rattling around for a year.

This is all about the Netgear Genie. (That's the Windows desktop "app".) Are you using that? (If so, which version?) Or are you going in through a web browser?
