Feedback for R7000 New firmware 1.0.9.18
Hi All,
Please post here for any update/issue related to the latest firmware 1.0.9.18.
You should review this and maybe revert back to this recommended version of FW:
Alfikwrote:I've looked here again after a while and I can't belive the problem is still not solved....
Since I've flashed Tomato a few weeks ago I've forgotten that I have a router- it's working perfectly getting dust because i do not touch it at all :-)...
Parental control works perfectly, 0 drops, strong signal - save your time and do a similar thing!

My issue is the same as so many I see on here. A firmware upgrade just prior to 1.0.9.18 crippled my 2.4GHz connections. I moved up to .18 since it seemed to come out so quickly after - with no success. As soon as my Harmony Hub stops responding to voice commands from Alexa I know it is time to reboot the router. With so many people posting about this issue I'm baffled why it hasn't been fixed yet. Additionally, I can see forum posts from 2015 referencing this same issue so it clearly isn't new. Screen shot shows active devices after 2.4GHz craps out.

Do you have a Guest Wireless set up on 2.4GHz? If so, try disabling it. That's not a resolution, but it has made many of our devices usable again.

So, update to my earlier post. Since talking with Netgear Support, my router hung. Not just 2.4GHz .. but 5GHz too. That's the first time that happened.
I've disabled my Guest Wireless 2.4GHz again. If the router hangs again, I'll roll back the other changes Netgear made (see my earlier post).
They did follow up with me after the call (but before the router hung). I don't know how dedicated they are to fixing the problem, but right now it looks like they are putting the resources in to investigating.

Problem Solved!!!
Bought Linksys WRT 3200 ACM. Pricematched Amazon at Best Buy. Came out $20 more than the R7000 and a million curses less in frustration. I am done with NG. Sorry guys but had to abandon ship. I am going to shoot the R7000 with my new Glock tomorrow.
- tulongGuideI finally had to flash their router with Tomato open source firmware. So far no drop and the transfer rate on 2.4Ghz has improved greatly. 5Ghz transfer rate is just a little bit better. The range has definitely improve big time. I can go anywhere up stair without getting disconnect as it's used to be. Will see how it goes. At least now the connection is pretty stable. I was thinking the same thing about getting me a Linksys WRT 3200 ACM if it shows sign of problem again.
P/S I have said last time that it's my last post here, but just figure it would helps folks here to get the router working again so here I'm. I'll post my final post here in a week on the result and that will be the last.
- ddurigGuideI was able to go about 2.5 days without issues on the hotfix before having to reboot. I have rebooted twice now. Figured I would try enabling QOS to see if that helped. The router ran a speed test which I never saw results for and then rebooted...strangely I can get to the internet now but both the web admin console and netgear genie no longer load. This could be it for me...

try putting your R7k in the microwave at full power. It either will boots your 2.4 Ghz for a moment or at least resolves the frustration forever R.I.P. ;-)
Btw: don't try this at home but in your old shed, in case it gives you a one time fireworks to close off 2017.
I wish you all a great and less frustrating 2018 with a better and healthier router.

First, make the firmware routers working! 100% working, not 10%!
Second, even cheap Chinese brands do not have such problems. Are not you ashamed?
Third, by fixing your first 2 things, then you start to do third! I mean this:- seventyAspirant
I am so disappointed with Netgear on this one.
I have been running an R7000 at home with no problems. I just bought another one for my in-laws, then lost half a day trying to configure an Android device that just wouldn't work on either 2.4 or 5GHz.
Finally turning of Access Control solved it (thanks for the tip earlier in this thread).
Of course, I worked out afterwards the router had upgraded itself to 1.0.9.18 on first boot. Thanks a lot Netgear. I now have to leave the family with a wifi setup that could go unstable at any time.

One thing that might help speed things along as far as Netgear is concerned, is for those ofyou who have bought this product on Amazon write a review that includes problems right now.
Not necessarily giving a bad review, but warn future buyers of the problem we're having right now.
Let them know it's a great machine but just hold off right now.

1.0.9.18 1.2.27 also giving me problems, not sure if it was dropping connections or the signal was too low to keep all wifi items connected. Dropped back to 1.09.10 for now. Do I need to do the hotfix security upgrade and will this effect my connections? I have wemo, phillips hue, etc and when the router reboots I seem to have to reset all these devices.
Continue to lose 2.4. Only a reboot fixes it. 5G works fine. Wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of my Asus router. This one is a POS.

Just rolled back to 1.0.9.12 1.2.23, which was the version I was on before this debacle started. Everything was stable then, so I'll see what happens now. Enabled 5ghz and my guest channel as before.

Well that didn't work. I can't be bothered with this anymore, taken the router out and running the Virgin Superhub again for now. I'll look into returning the router as it's less than a year old.

After updating firmware to 1.0.9.18 , all was well for a few days and then Amzon Echo/Dot failed to connect to network and then Nest Thermostat would not retain a connection. This affected both 2.4. & 5Ghz wifi connections.
Resetting these products did nothing at all and the tech support teams at each vendor could not fix the issues - Nest even thought it was probably thier hardware had failed.
In a last attempt to resolve, regressing back to firmware version R7000-V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 immedeatly allowed all the units to reconnect and hopefully will remain stable as they had been for many months.
Hope this helps
For those still struggling with network stability, I got tired of either the 2.4 or 5 ghz network dropping at random so I ended up disabling the 5ghz network like some suggested in the begining of this thread and it's been smooth sailing through the holidays (.18 firmware). Annoying I essentially have to cripple equipment that Netgear broke, but it's better than mucking with this crap every day. I almost forgot I was even having problems.

I have the same problem with my router even after V1.0.9.20_1.2.28 upgrade. 2.4Ghz devices are losing connection after some time and the only workaround is a reboot of the router! Never had Smart Connect enabled! Is there a fix for this?
Very disappointing from Netgear!!!!!
- HWAMApprenticeFix is buying a new router. Or wait a a couple of months, maybe Netgear will fix the problem........ You need a lot of patience.
- SeanPGHAspirantSolved: I have an AC2200 wireless extender. I needed to upgrade the firmware on it. It was causing my wireless router to choke and drop internet. Been 5 days with no drop.

Same problem here, WIFI issues with Samsung phones after V1.0.9.14_1.2.25. (.14 version is the one that works.)
1.0.9.18 and 1.0.9.20 (hot fix) do not fix this issue. So I have to run a router with a number of known vulneratbilities, it is a shame. The Q/A at Netgear is lacking severely, this is all preventable with automated testing of new FW roll outs. IMO they should point out the problems with the Samsung phones and also keep readable bugs for their end users. The time that gets lost by millions of individuals having this figure this out is immense. And also the good ones that try to keep their routers up to date get punished the hardest.

Bought a new router (tplink) before flashing tomato on the r7000: what a relief. R7000 is functioning as an access point while the c5400 has become the ‘mainrouter’. No slow data throughput anymore, no 2.4 ghz WiFi problems.
I've had my R7000 for a couple years (can't recall when I bought it but I think it's been a couple years). I updated the firmware when I initially set it up. Ever since then I didn't bother doing any updates as it was just working fine.
So had some downtime for Christmas and did the update to 1.0.9.18 on Dec 29th. Didn't think anything of it, and had no idea there was a major issue. I didn't make note of the firmare I had prior to the update.I did not do a master reset afterwards.
Then my Brother wireless printer dropped offline (on 2.4Ghz). I rebooted the R7000 and it eventually came back. Later disappeared again. Rebooted router again. Printer back online. Later noticed that my Nexus Player which automatically likes connecting to 5Ghz is saying no internet. Rebooted router and printer connected again, and internet on 5Ghz is back. Watched a movie no probs and went to bed.
Next morning checked printer and it was still online. But my Nexus player and iPads which were on 5Ghz can't connect. Tried changing channels (from 153 to 161) no change. Reboot fixes the connectivity.
So It's odd. I am having the opposite issue to many of you. My 2.4Ghz seems stable for the past few days after the initial couple reboots. However my 5Ghz keeps dropping internet connection. I can connect to it, but the internet is dropped. I have both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks running and both also have Guest networks so 4 networks total. All have separate SSIDs.
I have not tried the hot fix (1.0.9.20) as I don't know what more damage it will do.
