R7500 Keep Dropping Connection
My R7500 keep dropping connection to internet on both wireless and wired device. The signal is always strong and showing connected but just can't get access to internet either apps or website. Need wait about 1 to 2 minutes until the router reconnect itself. This issue happened about every hour. The home network still working, and I can access files from other computer or device through R7500. Just can't get internet access.
The firmware is the newest one.
- Retired_MemberDec 25, 2014Hello,
I have no problems in the 2.4 and 5 GHz band, the router is already two weeks without anny trubbels, I have the latest firmware installed steps:
1. router to default settings
2. FW installed (76)
3. routern to default settings after upgrade
4. router reset
No problems with connection issue; stable:D

Babylon5 wrote: I have a 7260AC fitted, and get blistering rates, however I have noticed that it can reduce to a relative crawl at times, regardless of what network it is connected to. The answer for me is to either reboot the laptop (a bit nauseous) or disable/enable the 7260AC (very easy using F9 on my laptop). So for me the 7260 isn’t quite perfect, but is pretty close.
Babylon5,
You could try this solution from the Intel forum to rule out an issue with network scanning while connected.
1. Open Registry Editor (Windows 8/8.1, right click where Start button was, click Run, type regedit. Windows 7, click Start, click Run, type regedit)
2. Head to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System\ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} [Be sure to expand the 4d36e.... folder]
3. Inside will be a number of folders named 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Look through all these folders until you get one that says Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 in the registry.
4. Once the device has been found, search for a value called ScanWhenAssociated.
5. If you see this value, set it to 0 on hexadecimal. If you don't see the value, click edit from the top, select new, and click DWORD (32-bit) value. Rename this value to ScanWhenAssociated (exactly as shown). Make sure this value is set to 0 on hexadecimal.
6. Restart the computer. This is important. The changes won't take effect unless you do.

Hopefully this resolves the connection deterioration! :) - Babylon5NETGEAR Employee RetiredThanks, I might give that a try, but currently the deterioration is infrequent, having said that though, it becomes noticeable when it matters i.e. I’m just kicking off a backup of a large file. So, I might just give it a go anyway and maybe I’ll never see the problem again. ;)
- I'm still quite happy with the performance that my intel 7260ac card is giving me and can't say enough good things about it.
- FWIW I just rolled back the firmware to 1.0.0.76 and my router performance has gone back to normal.
Hi anyone got some updates on the issue? My R7500 worked fine for around half a year and recently starts dropping Internet connection as well.
The frequent reboot required is making me crazy and I could not find a way out. So is that reverting to an older firrmware can solve this problem?

Hi Whateverman888,
Welcome to Community!
I would need the following information so that I can provide you necessary resolution.
1. Did you update the firmware of the router? What firmware is it?
2. Did disconnection happen after the firmware update?
3. Have you reset the router to factory default after the update?
4. Does disconnection happens of both wired and wireless devices?

Hi JamesGL,
Thanks for your help!
1. My R7500 is using V1.0.0.94 firmware, which I updated at the moment I saw it released (around two months ago?);
2. After the firmware update to .94 it worked fine for about a month and disconnect issue happened starting from mid Aug;
3. I tried factory reset the router and restore the setting but the disconnection still went on;
4. In fact when the "disconnection" happens, only the internet port is disconnected. Both wired and wireless devices still can access each other on the "Intranet" but none can access the Internet. I have around 10 devices (5 mobile phones, 3 PC, 1 Windows tab, 1 NAS and 2-3 multimedia devices) that may connect to it but at most only around 6-7 devices will work at the same time. I do also have an EX6200 extender connected wirelessly to the R7500 but I guess it does not have anything related to the EX6200 which only extend the Wifi (5GHz only in Fastlane mode) of R7500.
Hope these info helps and please see if you need more info. Thanks!

I have had this issue with dropped wan since day 1 of buying the R7500. I upgraded to the V1.0.0.94 firmware pretty much straight away and I'm also considering to go through the hassle with a downgrade.
My previous router which worked fine with the same ISP and everything else the same (I basically just wanted 5 GHz wifi and Gbit ethernet) was a Netgear WGR614v10. I bought it for 1/10 of what I paid for the R7500 and it worked like a charm...
I've checked the MTU-size and according to the ping test to determine the optimal size, the default value of 1500 is accurate
QOS is diasabled
ipv6 is disabled
At one point I decided to start manually logging the times I noticed that internet dropped (mostly first hand from a wired connection, always confirmed via a wired connection). I know I've missed a few times, e.g. lying in bed browsing on my phone. I also think it happens far more often but I'm not actively using the internet constantly.

2015-11:07: 16:18The issue is solved easily enough, what I usually do is just to log onto the router, notice that the button to the upper left, see the picture (which currently is green) and says "Internet STATUS:GOOD" instead is red and tells me that I have no internet access. I just click it, wait 1-2 minutes and everything is working fine again after the connection has been re-established

I have exact the same problem... i'm going back to 0.82 FW.. until they find a descent solution

Having the same issue too on the latest firmware. Internet is dropping on the wifi all the time.
Sometimes it isn't even stable for 5 min after a reset of the router.- rmfpdxAspirant
Life's too short to waste any more time on this nonsense. Nothing has made it better. Except that I have switched out to a new Apple Time Capsule Airport Extreme router and couldn't be happier. No more dropped wifi :)

Hi All,
Please send me a PM with your contact info.
- jon-Aspirant
Mine has been doing this for a while. I've largely ignored it, but now all the new nexus devices run doze, the dropping seems to be stopping my 6P from going to sleep.
How does one RMA? It's under a year old, or do I just use my credit card coverage (I'm in the UK)
- JamesGLNETGEAR Employee Retired
Hi jon,
For RMA, you may need to contact support team. Device should be within 1 year from the date of purchase depending on the region.
- willgillAspirant
I have exactly the same issue, few times a day my x4 just drops the internet connection, it returns without fail after 1-2 minutes, very very annoying
- willgillAspirant
yes sorry should have said my disconnections are wireless related too :(
- Any update from Netgear on this?
It seems there are dozens and dozens (if not hundreds) of people who are having the same exact class of problem.
Should we all send our routers back for RMA? Mine is less than 6 months old.
Is there some way for us to escalate this issue.
As of today, this is happening about every 10-15 minutes then I have to reset my router to get back on. This applies to wired and wireless.
Needless to say, it's just about useless and I am very much losing faith in this hardware when I can't use my desktop, laptop, tablets, phones, or XBOX.- PEHowlandApprentice
I have an R7500 and the wifi is fast and rock solid. So the router can work properly. Netgear themselves advise that when you update to v1.0.0.94 that you should do a factory reset of the modem, as the config parameters are different. Have you tried this? You need to press and hold the reset button for at least 5 seconds (but better to do 30 secs to be really sure). When modem reboots, everything should be wiped, and you're back to initial default wifi signal and password, etc. The reconfigure and see if the issue remains.
I was already running 1.0.0.94. I just re-applied that firmware. I then pressed the reset button for a while (like 30 seconds). The modem rebooted and came back up, but it didn't reset all of my settings. My password was the same and my SSIDs were still there. Is there some other trick I should try to reset it?
