Replacement Power Supply for ReadyNAS NVX? Case #19099497
Hi,
It seems as though the power supply on our NVX ReadyNAS (RNDX4210) has failed.
Where can I buy a replacement from that will be ok in the unit?
Regards,
Floob.

- PapaBear1ApprenticeHow long have you had the unit? Since it is an RNDX4210 not a RNDX421E it is probably the Business Edition, not a Pioneer. The Pioneer did not have many of the business features such as Active Desktop and teaming of the two ethernet ports and only had a 3 year warranty period vs the 5 year warranty of the BE.
I suggest you open an on line technical support ticket about the failure. When you get a case number edit your first post in this discussion and edit the subject line appending the case number to the end. If it is still under warranty, they should issue an RMA to replace the unit with a refurbished one.
Do you recall what version of RAIDiator you had updated the unit to?
When you send in your unit, do not send the drives, drive trays or screws with it. Send just the bare chassis. While at one time they were sending out replacement PSUs for the NV+, they seem to now want the old chassis back and to my knowledge have not ever send out a replacement PSU for the NVX (although comparing units, the NV+ replacement PSU would fit in an NVX and appears to be plug compatible and have enough power). - Floob1AspirantHi,
I have raised a case with Netgear, but they dont have any replacement units in stock, so it will be several days before a replacement is available - I thought a Power Supply replacement may be a quicker option.
I bought this about Q1 2010, and yes, I dont think it is the Pioneer version.
I'm fairly sure its an Intel based model, so I will also try putting the disks in a spare Ultra2 we have. The NAS says it is a NAS NVX on the side.
I will add my case number in the subject. I'm fairly sure the RAIDiator was the latest but one - although I forget the version number.
Shame I cant seem to source a spare PSU. - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertYou can move the disks from the NVX to Ultra with no issues. There will be some features missing from the GUI, but that is because you are coming from the NVX (Business) to Ultra.
I will check on the support side to see if we are able to get the NVX RMA'd with the correct unit.
Note: I have check the registration and it looks like you have the NVX Business unit. - Floob1AspirantHi,
That is great news that you think from NVX to Ultra will be ok, fingers crossed when we do this tomorrow.
Thanks very much for your help.
I have been told by support to run the OS reinstall (no.3 on link below) on the Ultra before powering it up proper with the NVX disks in. Would you agree?
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertThat should be okay. The firmware that is loaded to the disks with be the same...
Do you know what firmware that you had on your NVX and Ultra?
There are some possible issues you would run into if you are running an OS Reinstall on firmwares that are different. (eg. OS Reinstall with a unit that has 4.2.5 on the flash may have issues if the disks are running 4.2.21.) - Floob1AspirantHi,
The Ultra2 has RAIDiator 4.2.21 installed, but the NVX had 4.2.19 (I think - certainly not newer anyway).
On that basis should I run the OS re-install or not?
In addition, the NVX had 2 disks in 4 bays (2 were empty). Can I take just one of these disks and put it into the Ultra2, or must I put both disks straight in? - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertThe firmwares are relatively close and you can do an OS reinstall without harm.
It is recommended to have all the disks in, so you should be good to migrate over to the Ultra. - Floob1AspirantNetgear have now said they will ship a Pro 4 instead (which I assume is x86 based) and that I wont need to do an os-reinstall?
To be honest I'm not too clear on why an os-install would or wouldn't be required in my situation?
I would like to be in the position where I could get the Pro 4 being sent and just put in the 2 disks I have - hopefully the NAS wont try to format or otherwise initialize them again. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou've done well. Pro 4 is 64-bit. NVX is 32-bit. You've been upgraded to a newer, better NAS.
Put a spare disk (must not be from your array) in the Pro 4 and check what firmware is installed on it. If it is 4.2.15 or earlier update to 4.2.16 then to the firmware you were running on the NVX. Verify the firmware update was successful power down remove your spare disk and move your disks across. - Floob1AspirantThanks for that.
What if the pro 4 comes with a firmware newer than I had on the NVX?
I believe the NVX had 4.2.19 or 4.2.20 on it.
