ReadyNAS Pro 2 Can't Access C:\ Drive
I've been running 2 x ReadyNas Pro 2's for a couple of years now with replicate between them.
I had 2 file shares called:
backup
media
Both can be access via explorer.
For somereason replicate was failing so yesterday i logged in to the Replicate portal and created a new replicate back up job to a new folder called June2014. This ran successfully overnight.
Ive gone to explorer to view the back up files and can only see my original 2 shares - backup/media
I realise i shoudl have created the share on the Nas and not the replicate portal but now i can't find how to access the floder which is on C:\.
I can't even see C:\ drive only the original 2 shares.
If i log in to the replicate portal the files are there and i can see them.
When i log in to the Nas FrontView using Admin/(and Password) i can't find anywhere that shows the c:\, i can only see the 2 original shares under share listing.
If i open windows explorer via IP - \\10.0.3.21 i dont get prompted for a log in, it just see the original shares - backup and media.
Am i missing something simple ? I've tried \\10.0.3.21\C but get the message Windows cannot access \\10.0.3.21\C.
I'm running Windows 7.
Many thanks for your time.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you use the NAS admin credentials with windows explorer then you will see C. Otherwise you won't.
Try going into control panel, then credentials manager. If there is a credential for the NAS delete it.
Then create a new "windows credential' for the NAS, using pro\admin for the user name, and the admin password. If you use the IP address in explorer, then use the IP address in the credential. (IP addresses and the hostname are treated as separate machines by windows, you can actually create two different credentials, one for each). - rookeydooksAspirantHi Stephen, many thanks for your quick reply.
I checked credentials manager and there was no entry for the Nas, so i created 2 new ones under Control Panel\Windows Credentails using
In the box marked Internet or network address:
Ip Address >> 10.0.3.21
Username >> pro\admin
Password >> test
I also created a second credential for the Nas Name >> Listen2, with exactly the same username and password.
When i open windows explorer it now brings up a windows log in box with username already populated with pro\admin
I try the password i set = test
But it doesn't like it and just keeps asking me for the password over and over. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere's a small typo in my earlier post. The user name should have been listen2\admin for the name, and 10.0.3.21\admin for the IP. You should probably edit it, but that shouldn't be crucial.
What firmware are you running? Is the NAS set up with user security mode or share security mode? - rookeydooksAspirantI've added 2 x new windows credentials for Nas name and IP but still doesn't like it.
Firmware is: RAIDiator 4.2.19
On Security Mode its enabled for User.
User. Fit for medium-size office or workgroup. Select this option if you would like to control access to shares based on user or group accounts and your network does not utilize a domain controller for authentication. If you select this option, you will need to create a user account for anyone accessing this device. This option supports setting disk quotas on a per-user or per-group basis.
Workgroup: Volume
********************************
The second choosable option is domain:
Domain. Fit for department or corporate environment. Select this option if you would like to control access to shares based on user and group accounts and your Windows network utilizes a centralized domain controller or active directory service (ADS) for login authentication. This option will not support disk quotas. Do not select this option if you are unsure. - rookeydooksAspirantHi Stephen,
I have now updated the firmware on both boxes to:
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.2
When i went in to Shares/Share Listing on Frontview my June2012 folder now appears. I copied the CIFS and APS settings from the other 2 sahres, back/media and can now access the June201 share via Windows Explorer.
Inside the June2012 share there is a folder called: DMHIPK~Q. Inside that are the two back up folders form yesterday and today.
2014-06-04 00-00
2014-06-05 00-00
Inside the folders it shows as empty but if access the shares via https://replicate.readynas.com i can see all the backed up files in both 2014-06-04 00-00/2014-06-05 00-00 folders .
I added the 2 x new windows credentials: listen2\admin for the name, and 10.0.3.21\admin for the IP but its still wont let me log in. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou must have dropped the last digit from the firmware - can you retype?
Did you already have a folder open in the NAS? Or have a drive letter mapped?
Try going into the windows search bar, and entercmd
That will open a black text box. Select it, and enter the following at the prompt:net use z: \\10.0.3.21\C /user:admin
Then enter the NAS admin password at the prompt.
That should map the C volume to the Z drive letter. If there are no errors, click on "computer" and see if Z appears. - rookeydooksAspirantSorry, you are correct i did miss off a digit. The firmware is now RAIDiator 4.2.26
Anyway, we have progress! Using the net use command has worked to connect but i still can't see the backed up files.
I was already using z:\ so changed the command to n:\, so now if i open the N:\ drive from My computer i see the following folders/files:
backup
home
June2014
lost+found
media
aquota.group
aquota.user
Before i could only see the 3 shares.. backup/media/June2012.
If i drill down the home directory it has the following
home
>> admin
>>>> (This folder is empty)
Same for wher my backuo are in June2014
June2014
>> DMHIPK~Q
>>>> 2014-06-05 00-00
>>>>>> (This folder is empty)
Its as if the files that are in there are hidden ? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserTry setting the folder options so you can see hidden and protected operating system files.
(Open "folder options" in the control panel, then click on the "View" tab).
Put the defaults back when you are done (at least the system file setting).
I don't use replicate myself, so if that doesn't help find the files you may need another user to chime in. - rookeydooksAspirantHi Stephen, i tried unhidding folders and files but no joy.
It is weird they way the files are all hidden. On the N:\ Drive i created and connected to it shows 613gb free of 913gb (in My Computer) so windows definetly knows the files are there. But when i open the N:\ drive and highlight all the folders and files in there, then select properties it shows size 14kb.
Will keep digging and report back if i ever find a solution. Maybe the only way to see these files is through the replicate portal?
Many thanks for all your help on this. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDoes the space show up in Frontview?
If you are still under warranty (5 years) then contact support at support.netgear.com.
If not, then I'd definitely install ssh and see if I could find the space that way.
