Warranty for ReadyNas NV+
Hello,
I have a Netgear ReadyNas NV+ purchased in December 2009 with a dead power supply. I entered a case with Netgear support, and they are telling me that the unit is not under warranty - however if I look at the listing in Amazon, where I purchased the unit, it stated that they have a 5 year warranty. Can anyone tell me what the correct warranty length is?
The support response was encouraging me to purchase an extended warranty for $150 a year....

Did you contact support via phone or online? - siignaNETGEAR Employee RetiredIncluding a case number in your post would certainly help support staff out (just for future reference). Update the thread with that and I'll see what I can do for you.

I submitted and online case. The Amazon page is: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-ReadyNAS-4-Bay-0TB-Diskless/dp/B000VA3TXY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1362086410&sr=8-2&keywords=readynas+nv%2B
Which even to this day states "Includes 5 year warranty" - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI purchased my NV+ from Amazon in May 2010. Netgear's registration info says my warranty expires in May 2013 (3 year). I don't know how to reconcile the Amazon page (e.g., if it was/is incorrect, what recourse do you have).
Are you just looking to get your data off? If you have a backup, then a new NAS is probably the best way to go.
You can buy a replacement supply for around $120, though they are getting quite hard to find. Sears (of all places) seems to have it in stock

Or bite the bullet and take the extended warranty. Then you likely get an RMA'd unit, so even if there is other stuff that failed when the supply blew out you'd be ok. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAt some point after the release of the NVX the warranty for new purchases of the NV+ changed from 5 years to 3 years. However if you bought before this change came into effect the 5 year warranty would be honoured. As well as the warranty period becoming shorter the price of the NV+ also fell significantly.

Assuming you have an NV+ v1, you do have 5 year warranty. Power supplies in a specific MAC
address range are to be replaced.
I'm in Tech support. I don't know which call centre you are dealing with, but keep trying.
Rgds Marto - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserMarto, in your thread there is a reference to a change to a 3 year warranty. There is also a relevant post here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=47790#p273929
I'm not seeing a clear record of when the 3 year transition happened though.
EDIT: this thread says the shorter warranty was in place before May 2010: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=41394&p=230111
It suggests it had been in place for a while. So my unit's warranty expiration date is correct (since I purchased in May 2010). - RubatoguyAspirantI found a reference here: http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=281
"Please be aware that ReadyNAS purchased prior to August 21, 2007 carries a one-year limited warranty. Extended warranty purchased for these ReadyNAS will be honored by NETGEAR. ReadyNAS NV+ and 1100 purchased August 21, 2007 and later have a 5-year limited warranty, and the ReadyNAS Duo has a 3-year warranty."
It could be that the off-shore support is not aware of the history of the warranty for the products, just the current warranty length.
I've updated my case with this information and will see what happens.
I have to say, I think my ReadyNAS is an awesome product, but so far, I have not been impressed with the off-shore support - I guess I will see if they come though in the end.
Todd - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI saw that page also, it is an orphaned link that comes up on google. I think it was orphaned after the warranty reduction, but they neglected to actually delete the page.
My link above clearly says the warranty had been reduced to 3 years by May 2010. Though Yoh-dah indicates in the post that it had been that way for a while, I couldn't find any information from Netgear saying exactly when. - Marto731AspirantGents,
From my role in UK Tech support, this is what I know.
(a) There is a last time order in with a Far East vendor to make Power supplies to
support warranty cover. At the moment, April 2013, we are out of stock of these items.
(b) In relation to NV+v1 PSU's been made available to UK resellers, for users to buy, ( when out of warranty )
I am told that delivery to European Distribution centre will not be until late June, ie 2 months from today.
Regards, Marto
