Netgear GS116 v2 16 port switch Power led blinks
Hi,
I just received a new Netgear GS116 v2 16 port switch, unpacked it and connected it to the power supply and to a network cable.
Immediately I found out that the power led on the switch is blinking forever and I'm unable to connect to it of course.
I tried doing a reset and unplugging and replugging it, but nothing seems to help.
Any ideas on what could be the problem and how to resolve it?
Thanks...:-)

Hi Teenet,
There must be something wrong with the power supply, it could be grounded or damaged. You can also contact our support team to get a free power supply replacement.
Thanks,

Hello Teenet,
Welcome to the community!
The GS116v2 is only a plug and play switch. It does not require any software for it to work. When you said reset, are you pertaining to just rebooting the device? What is the color of the power LED when it blinks?
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
- TeenetGuideHi JohnRo,
Thanks a lot for your quick reply!
I really appreciate it.
When I mean reset I refer to the reset button on it that needs to be pressed using a paper clip.
It is a smart switch.
The LED blinks a green light quickly. After letting it "rest" overnight unplugged, I tried to connect it again and now it stays solid.
What could be the problem?
Is it possible that there is a problem with the power adapter?
Thanks again!- JohnRoNETGEAR Employee Retired
Hi Teenet,
There might be a little mistake with the model number you have posted since the GS116v2 is NOT a smart switch. Can you please PM me the serial number of your device so that we can identify the correct model number? I cannot give recommendations for now since I am unsure on what model you are working on.
Thanks,
- TeenetGuide
Oops, my bad... It's the Netgear Prosafe GS116Ev2...
Do you still need me to PM you the s/n ?
Thanks again! :smileyhappy:
- TeenetGuideAnd if it's not solid again? Could it be a defective power supply? Could it be something else?
Thanks JohnRo.- JohnRoNETGEAR Employee Retired
Hi Teenet,
There is a chance that it could be a bad power supply, the power LED is not supposed to blink. Did you try if the switch is detected by the utility or if it even passes the IP from your DHCP server?
Thanks,
- TeenetGuideHi again,
Yes, I'm able to login to the utility and config all the settings. It also passes the ip from the dhcp server without any problems. The only issue is with the blinking power LED. What kind of power supply should I buy? 12v 1A is a must or can I use a 12v 2A 24w max which I have at home?
Thanks again..- JohnRoNETGEAR Employee Retired
Hi Teenet,
It would be best if you use the same Voltage and Amp like the one supplied. I have not seen such LED behavior for this model. If the power LED blinks do you lose connectivity to the switch?
Thanks,
- TeenetGuideYep. When it blinks I can't connect to it. The only way to reconnect is to unplug it, wait a few minutes and then plug it in again.

- TeenetGuideHi again,
Apologies for my late reply...
Eventually I didn't contact support as I found a power supply with the same specs as the one provided at home. At the moment I'm using it and it's ok Welch means the original power supply was indeed faulty.
Thanks again for your assistance!- JohnRoNETGEAR Employee Retired
