ReadyNAS Pro: System temp running out of spec
In the last weeks I did have several times where the CPU temp ran out of spec. What's annoying to me is that the cpu fan runs at maximum 1506 rpm?! Shouldn't it rotate much higher to avoid temp running out of spec?
Any idea what to do? A calibration of the cpu fan is not offered within frontview...
Thanks in advance for any hint!

- reelmccoyAspirantInstalled 4.2.11 on both Pro Biz after watching both drop back to 880rpm and ~65C with 4.2.13. With 4.2.11, the sys fans settled at ~1170 rpm and the temps are 58C. This is after calibration and letting them run as usual overnight. I'll stay with this version of firmware until I see if there's betas to try out.

I'd really appreciate it if you could keep me (us in this thread) up to date if these issue are gone with 4.2.11 as i may do that then until there's a permanent solution. - PapaBear1ApprenticeFor those experiencing this problem, downgrading to 4.2.11 seems to work in most cases. However, those with WD 4K sector drives would be in a quandary as they need either release 12 or 13 for their drives.
- lissterAspirantOver the last few days ive been keeping a closer eye on this problem.
With me the system runs fine for most of the day but EVERY day between 8pm and 10pm it doesnt go over 900 until it overheats or i do a calibrate.
It keeps doing this for about 30-40 min then it works fine till the next day.
This has been constant for the past 4 days, ill keep an eye on it if it does it all week.
PS: @papabear: other then 4k sector drives is there any negative effect going back to .11? speed wise and/or ext4 issues? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou would lose the feature improvements and bug fixes since 4.2.11. 4.2.11 was the first firmware to have native EXT4 for the Pro (required a factory default - wipes all data, settings, everything).

I expect if your partitions are already aligned for 4k sectors, things may work ok with 4k sector drives (I haven't tried the downgrade. I'd suggest backing up your data if you can, just in case something goes wrong). Of course on the old firmware if you replace a disk then the 4k sector alignment may get messed up perhaps leading to poor write performance. - GrievousAspirantNot sure why we're discussing 4k sectors, but whatever.
I need a volunteer or two. Specifically running 4.2.13, showing the temperature out of spec, and letting us have SSH access to the system(contact me via PM and we'll arrange it that way), as we need to remotely verify that the fans are operating accordingly, or if there's a separate issue with the reported fan speed. Your data will be intact during the duration and you'll have access to it. Also, instead of remotely rebooting the system, we'll let you know it needs to be rebooted so you can do it without disrupting your network. - GrievousAspirantAlright guys, the good news is that with the help of some of you we were able to get the info we needed. The not so great news is that I don't have a build with a fix for you guys yet, but it will be taken care of in a future build.

Is there any chance that someone could 1. tell me where to download a working firmware for my readynas pro, and 2. tell me if there's something special I have to do in order to "downgrade."
Support told me to downgrade without supplying a single instruction. :( Even if I did locate someplace to download old firmwares, I'd have no idea which one to downgrade to. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTry downgrading to 4.2.11. Notes are here: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_x86_4_2_11_Notes
Download the image linked to on that page and install it via System > Update > Local in Frontview. - beisser1Tutor

great news. i hope that future build also fixes the cpu-fan beeing turned off on beta-units :)
