Current RAX120 firmware version
The web site download page shows the current firmware version as 1.0.2.136. This morning I checked using the phone app, and it shows a version 1.2.0.16 available. Installed OK but want to verify that this is indeed a valid new version. Some searching for this 1.2.0.16 version came back as from a different model router from 2018????

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be a hyperlink in the original post. What I was trying to say was that I pinged the website address to get the associated IP, and then used that in my browser. The browser returned that the site was not secure and recommended not accessing it. Other sub-sites like this support site work OK.
Just concerned that Netgear may have been hacked and bad firmware uploaded - can anyone say Solarwinds.......
Update 2....
Appears the flakey web site issues were due to problems with Quad9 DNS which I use. That seems to be resolved now.
Still have the original question about the current firmware version for an RAX120....
Thanks
- BlazerichmondInitiateGot the same thing on mine. Appears it auto updated the firmware overnight Dec 15th-16th to 1.2.0.16. Now the performance is poor. App states it is offline although I have reset everything twice and reset up the router completely. Most devices in the house state there is no internet through the router.
Same issue - auto updated overnight to V1.2.0.16 which broke wired connections. Manually fell back to 1.0.1.128 which fixed everything again. I've turned off firmware auto-update since the router is still indicating that V1.2.0.16 is an update that needs to be installed.
Correction - fell back to V1.0.2.136
- mfinazzoInitiateMy router did the same auto update to the new firmware and now it won’t even boot up. How can I convert back to a previous version.
- NewfiedroolVirtuoso
It will pay to factory reset after updating back to the current listed firmware just to be nice and safe.
- TopologyVirtuoso
What are the release notes for the V1.2.0.16 firmware?
Thank you.

Christian_R ive linked a moderator so netgear picks this up.
looks like an old firmware for a nighthawk router with a completely different chipset, I'm surprised it installed.

Hello,
the firmware was updated automatically last night and all my devices connected on the 2.4GHz cant connect anymore...
is there something to do except rolling back to an older firmware?
Thx
- dcincaApprentice
I downloaded the firmware and upgraded it. I did a factory reset and manually setup the router.
The Latency of 2.4ghz goes up to 1000ms. Tried to do a couple of reboots, no improvement at all.
I downgrade back to V1.0.2.136, though this one usually reboot once every two weeks.
The stablest firmware is V1.0.1.108 so far, but the newest firmware fixs a lot of security problems.
So, V1.0.2.136 is the best choice at the moment.
I still cannot get any internet access on devices connected via Ethernet after updating to 1.2.0.16 and performing a factory reset. I verified that after downgrading to 1.0.2.138, everything works fine, but I was automatically upgraded again last night and it re-broke my setup, and performing another factory reset still doesn't enable Ethernet connectivity. Has anyone had persisting Ethernet issues after a reset and an upgrade to 1.2.0.16?
- AJPatellInitiateAt first I had the same issues and nothing solved after doing a factory reset.
But I tried again, this time I made sure to upload the new 16 file (downloaded from the support site and unpacked) from a laptop through the web interface... And then doing the ERASE operation from the web interface, which the manual says is the same as factory reset. THAT FINALLY DID THE TRICK.
So maybe try that.
And a big thanks to all who suggested the factory reset fix.- dcincaApprentice
I tried again. I found that the new RAX120 firmware V1.2.0.16 is not working with EAX80 in 2.4G.
If I turn off EAX80, the 2.4G works fine.
If I turn on EAX80, the latency of 2.4G will go upto 2000ms. I also notice that the speed between Rax120 and Eax80 dropped to 400Mbps(Usually around 1000Mbps), even in the same room when I did the test.
I tried both V1.0.1.62 and V1.0.1.64 firmware of Eax80. All fresh setup, the same problem.

You need to apply the do not update, if not it will still update.
I would go to the support page and download the file from there and install manually.
Reset and test.

I had the same issue with ethernet connections not working after automatic upgrade to 1.2.0.16. I have downgarded to 1.0.1.128 and everything worked again. Not impressed by Netgear firmware versions.
Sargy450 do you have a tagged VLAN configuration for Internet access? Also, are you able to ping any sites via wired LAN clients?
Similar issues as reported earlier in the thread here. While I hadn't narrowed it down to LAN devices, that would fit the behaviour I have experienced. My media server and other published web servicess were no longer accessible externally. I only performed minimal troubleshooting, but it's worth noting that SSHing to some of these devices to further assess the problem I was able to ping out. Now I should have followed up with traceroutes and other tests, but in the end downgraded quickly upon finding this thread.
A correctly completing ping would indicate the return path is fine so traceroute may be of limited use regardless. I had surmised it may be due to UPNP not mapping the ports correctly, but my media server was also unable to access online updates or other such features, so not only was inbound media services impacted, but outbound web traffic (port 80) as well. It was only noted to impact clients on the LAN, which would fall in line with others experiences.
I did not test factory resetting, while I appreciate this is a useful troubleshooting tactic, that's not a valid and permanent solution. Especially when it would be ridiculous to expect general consumers to do so for a minor version upgrade, all without a hint of warning this may be required in the first place.
The fact the firmware is still fully available with no notes or acknowledgment from Netgear is poor. This release states it addresses a number of security vulnerabilities (of which Netgear has seen ever increasing exposure to) and it is unfortuante that I am now running a firmware version that potentially exposes the security and privacy of my home network. Even ignoring the generally poor functionality and value adds Netgear provide in firmware releases, my very expensive RAX120 router should warrant some such continued support, my friends touting Ubiquiti as a far superior product are becoming increasingly harder to ignore. The hardware is decent, the support and firmware are becoming frustratingly bottom rung consumer.

Hi and welcome.
a simple reset would have had you up and running and taken less time than you trying to work out why.
The update was a bit more than a minor update and if you downgraded I would reset afterwards too.
Resets are not mandatory but are required if you notice an issue after updating. It's the first step to solving issues.
I agree though perhaps it should have been mentioned somewhere on the firmware update page but you managed to register to join the forum so hopefully other will see this thread if they go searching.
There's and interesting thread that Merlin wrote regarding resets and why it may be required on SNB. Worth popping over to have a read.

I downloaded it from https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RAX120.aspx#download and installed manually and also reset my rax120 and I'm still getting the same issues of none of my LAN connections being able to access internet. Everything connected via wifi still works. I'm usually quite patient but this is getting ridiculous.
Newfiedrool sorry I know I came across slightly over the top and somewhat belligerent, I would honestly prefer to understand the issue, and for Netgear to resolve it at the package level rather than mandate resets (I do understand the usefulness of a hard reset nethertheless).
It seems others have reported the issue persists even after hard reset, which played a part in my avoidance of continuing troubleshooting, especially when it involves hard resets and reloading configs. While not horrible time consuming I spend my weekdays troubleshooting such problems, hardly something I wanted to spend a Sunday doing for my own home.
It would be nice to get some acknowldegement from someone Netgear side here, this doesn't seem to be a couple of isolated cases. I'm not certain, but did someone say they'd pulled it from the NA support area, it's definitely still available for AUS.

Please do not assume you know the reason I turn my router off. Its done so all my logs start zeroed from boot which is how I have always done my updates and is a personal thing. Also it clears the cache and you will notice that RAM useage drops after a power down with the power supply removed for about 10 minutes. If this was such a myth why do Sony suggest to do this to clear the cache on Android TV's and the cache on PlayStations!
As far as a pin hole reset I take it you have not read R Merlins report on factory resetting? This person has his own Asus fork on smallnetbuilder and also patches for Asus themselves with many years of doing this behind him, so excuse me if I belive him over you. Here is a link that may be helpful about factory resets.
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/faq-nvram-and-factory-default-reset.22822/
As far as the current firmware there has been a change in the QCA SDK I cannot talk anymore about this as I am under a NDA. I have factory reset my router, set it up from scratch and all ports work, I also powered it down as usual to clear the cache and reset all the logs (personal choice on powerdown) The issue with the ports is a known one and a reset or re-downloading the firmware then logging out after updating and resetting should sort the issue out. If it does not please contact Netgear support.I assumed nothing about you, you've contribute minimally to the thread and certainly nothing since I started reading.
Powering off versus powering off 'for 15 minutes' are two entirely different things and I made no such claim on the former. Powering off and even soft resetting in most cases (where firmware is appropriately configured) will zero logs and perform other beneficial functions, believing powering off for 15 minutes does anything contrary to this is ridiculous and I beg you go claim such to anyone with an electrical engineering degree.
Clearing NVRAM isn't even being discussed and this can be mitigated from within firmware.
Come on guys, all the rest of us are doing is highlighting a problem with the firmware and even discussing where it may lie. If you don't want to join the discussion that's fine, otherwise your solutions are somewhat rudimentory and non viable to the rest of us.

It's a bad experience to upgrade my rax120 with the firmware 1.2.0.16 on day one, only couple hours after I opened the box and started to use... it was working perfectly for first couple hours with fw 1.0.2.136, then all wired ports (NAS, desktop) lost internet connection right after the new fw1.2.0.16 installed automatically, reset and setup from scratch doesn't work at all, I have to roll back to fw1.0.2.136 and everything goes back to normal.
For the previous 6 years I was ASUS user until recently I wanted to hook up my NAS by Lan ports aggregation and my PC by 2.5G port. RAX120 seemed to be a good choice but I never expected such experience on day one... the worse thing is still no new firmware released after we discussed here for almost one week.
Was it a wrong decision to buy this router?
- NewfiedroolVirtuoso
Go to support page, download, update and reset then pop back and let us know how it goes.
- gear1978Tutor
Actually I've tried it. The first reset applied after it installed the new fw automatically, then I downloaded the firmware under support page and installed again, applied another reset and setup, same result.

My RAX120 didn't reboot continually until a week after I installed new firmware 1.2.0.16. It started to reboot repeatly yesterday evening, so I came here to report this issue.
Here is my case: the new firmware works fine in the first week but get a malfunction (reboot repeatly) then. That means those RAX120 routers which perform normal currently may also encounter functional failure in the future.
Currently, I tried to both software and pinhole reset, both can't help. The only solution is to roll back to firmware 1.0.2.136, and everything works fine then.( it also proves that my RAX120 hardware has no problem)
I hope NETGEAR can release a new firmware soon after Christmas.
- NewfiedroolVirtuoso
As been out for a week and as you don't know it will happen again your best bet is to update again, reset and monitor for another week.
as the process was easy for you to solve there is no harm trying again.- TrumpKingAspirantI tried to downgrade and upgrade to 1.2.0.16 several times and also pinhole reset. It still can’t work as normal as before, quite weird.
- kc6108LuminaryEverything is working for us, but we have a rather complex setup.
We have Cable Internet. Our modem is a Motorola MB8600. It is connected to the WAN port of the RAX120 (no LAG). The 5-gig port of the RAX120 is connected to our MS510TX (firmware version 6.7.0.50) via a 2.5/5-gig port. Then the two 10-gig ports of the MS510TX are connected to an S3300-28X (firmware version 6.6.4.25) using two 10-gig ports (LACP LAG). We also have an R9000 (in AP mode) connected to the MS510TX switch using the R9000 WAN port. We have dozens of wired devices connected to our network but nothing connected to the back of the R9000 or RAX120 other than the 5-gig port and WAN ports as mentioned above. Therefore, I don’t think we are using any of the problematic ports on the RAX120 as mentioned by others.
Our RAX120 was upgraded via the Nighthawk app (on iPhone) and no factory reset of any kind was performed.
Merry Christmas!
