Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
Hi BriBrom,
The issue on your recent support case was about ReadyCLOUD and our server has been fully functional since. Can you tell us more about the other problem/s that you are currently experiencing or have experienced?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
Just to confirm... Is someone from Netgear actually working on fixing this issue? It's been over a month.

Good answer. We know there is a massive problem, without a fix

The fix is roll out an update that's actually a downgrade to 6.4.0 and you give yourself a nice way out.
6.4.0 had other problems that were fixed in 6.4.1 (or 6.4.2 beta) - and many users need those fixes. So the downgrade to 6.4.0 works for some, but it is not an option that works for everyone.
Turning off AV isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either.

Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
I have just disabled the virus scanning and brought the NAS RN3140 performance back to normal. It was so slow with 6.4.1 that my dcument management system, Worldox, timed out and would not load.
What is the next step in getting the AntiVirus up and running again?

Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
I have htop installed on my NAS so I took a screenshot of the output which absolutely verifies without a doubt that the culprit is the ctscan daemon (the antivirus server). Their instances are pegging my NAS's CPU cores at 100%.

Nothing surprising here, that is a known bug, and we have been telling lots of people to turn off AV protection on 6.4.1 and 6.4.2 beta for now. Hopefully Netgear will have a fix soon.

Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
I upgraded from 6.4.0 to 6.4.1 today. I have exactly the same issue. Accessing NAS shares from Windows File Explorer is extremely slow - virtually unusable. Was a solution to this problem found? I see the last posting on this thread was in December, 2015. Was this problem acknowledged by Netgear?

Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
Apology, I found the January, 2016 posts. Not sure how I missed them before. I have now downgraded to 6.4.0 (I preferred the downgrade to switching off AV protection). Any idea when the fix is coming? Thanks.

Re: OS 6.4.1 slow ... to the point of unusable
Hi debumitra,
Download the 6.4.0 Firmware in our support site and manually upload it. For the fix, it is still being worked on. Unfortunately, there's no ETA when it will be released.
Kind regards,

Hi BriBrom,
Thanks for your feedback. For the meantime, have the said feature disabled while NETGEAR is working on a fix for the issue discussed.

Is there a specific email address where I should send the private message to?

Hi debumitra,
Just open mdgm's profile and there's an option or button for you to send him a PM.
Kind regards,

Even simpler - just go into messages (top right on web page), and send him a message (typing mdgm in to the address line).

If you run both scanners, then of course there is a chance that the NAS AV will find something that Norton misses. In my opinion that chance is pretty small.
If you are downloading files directly to the NAS with an App (for instance, executable torrent files), then AV on the NAS will run right away, while Norton would likely run later.
I also have Norton on our PCs, and I've always left AntiVirus disabled on the NAS.
